Funny, (not funny), I was just going to say, "wow, they were really close to the house, weren't they?" That's less than a quarter of a mile. I think a lot of how we all feel about children missing in the wilderness has to do with our personal experience in the woods. I personally looked at that distance and felt it was totally within reason that he may have headed toward the road. Again, hoping they check every inch of the roadside on the way to his parents' home, if what we think is true about where the parents live in relation to the point of where he went missing.

I had the same reaction. Not far in the woods at all, shorter than the distance from my house to the mailbox. I live on 100 acres in the woods. From pictures of the search it looks like the paths are pretty w ide and open. I could definitely see him heading back to the house and up the road.

When my kids were that age and we would take them hiking we'd usually plan/expect about 5 miles in two hours. They had no problem covering that distance.

It seems that everyone on WebSleuths is browsing and checking this thread, or posting. Let's all make sure we pray for Noah and his family--and hopefully, hopefully our combined prayers will help Noah be found quickly. And as someone else said...like Rainn, we will see a MIRACLE OF MIRACLES.

Mapes has a list of questions from the media to ask Weaver, also was not able to get those answered. #FindNoah

Mapes tells us that Sheriff Blair Weaver doesn't want to speak to the media at the moment. #FindNoah

There have been many sightings of cougars/panthers in West TN:
https://www.uu.edu/forms/cougars/sightings.cfm
I cant find the link right now, but at Chickasaw State Park (which is 16 miles from Pinson) a hunter tracking a blood trail from a deer was treed by a panther a few years back.
jmo

yes one was witnessed in Pinson, TN in 2009. It has been my experience that where there is one, there's likely more..
There was one with a cub whose den was in a thicket near my neighbor's garden near Amicacola Falls/AT, in north GA. When his dog got close enough to scent the mountain lion, he balked at going any closer.. The dog did not fear black bears and would chase them off.

This is so sad. Time is not our friend here

I've been following this a bit since the thread was published. I don't think they're going to find this little guy alive :( Too many things could have gotten to him in 3 days. Hypothermia, animals, a fatal fall...if they find him at all. I want to hold out hope.

Not a good sign, imo.. Reality is setting in, or a sad discovery made, imo..

IMOO, I do not understand why you would take a 2 & 4 year old on a walk 700 ft. in the woods in the winter.
I know we have had some pretty days, but really? Yes my back yard is woods, a farm no less. I can see along the line of the woods to walk and look at birds and then go back in for a nap.............frustrated.........JMOO

(Note to self) see if Forestry Division has any useful maps

I was hoping we wouldn't have to go there. It has been said for so many years that there are no cougars, panthers, etc. in TN or the Carolinas that I was surprised to see your link. Apparently, now even the TN Wildlife Resources Commission is admitting to confirmed sightings in TN. https://www.tn.gov/twra/article/cougars-in-tennessee I wonder if SAR from somewhere out west who are trained in looking for cougar attacks could come in and look around the immediate area where Noah went missing? I would think that if that's what happened, it would have happened really close to where he went missing. The chances of him wandering very far AND getting scooped up by a cougar seem kind of slim to me. Of course, I'm no expert and just moo.

Living in the foothills of the mountains in north Georgia I can vouche that there were panthers in those woods. Even my mom didn't believe me for the longest until one night one came right to the tree line on the property and was skulking about and making this awful scream that honestly sounded a bit like a woman screaming. In my experience the mountain lions were quite elusive, but I was much larger (6 and up) than Noah.

He is probably just really really busy working imo. I know I barely have time to breathe just posting all the notes to self!! I can't imagine how full his hands are right now. I'd rather him utilize every second in the job than talking to the media anyway!

Coyotes have different seasons, like mating season, birth season, etc (sorry, hurried answer, trying to get my visual up). I hear them howling in huge packs here at night. We have had recent sightings here in my area of CO (sick, mangy coyotes too)...I'm watching my dogs like hawks (which are also watching my dogs).

In my experience I was actually more likely to come across them in winter.

RE: Wildlife Cameras

Although Noah wasn't caught on any of the cameras. Wonder what types of wildlife has been caught on camera.. Noah; a 25 pound two year old child vanishing in the woods without trace, combined with the failure of the K9s to pick up his scent at his last known location, and the many searchers; both volunteer and professional, without success for over two days. Imo this indicates a wildlife predator attack.

I am very concerned about a wildlife/predator attack on Noah. I had posted about coyotes, but coyotes usually leave residue/evidence of their attacks. I've seen mountain lions on two occasions while hunting in GA. My primary concern is a cougar/mountain lion attack. The DNR quietly introduced them into the TN/NC/GA forests over 10 years ago. Their profile of stalking/hunting/capture their prey seems to fit. The scent of a cougar may also affect a K9's tracking performance, imo.

Mountain Lion/Cougar
http://www.nps.gov/brca/learn/nature/mountainlion.htm

Thank you for your post Foxfire. On the DeOrr Kunz, Jr. Thread I posted a lot of information on mountain lions. Some might want to read it to see how a mountain lion behaves and why it's quite possible that a mountain lion grabbed little Noah. Our cabin is 50 miles from Pinson. Hunting is popular throughout Tennessee. Only recently have officials admitted to cougars being in the area. Not long ago one was spotted in our county (Wayne County/Perry County). In TN, whitetail deer are the number one food source for mountain lions and there's plenty of deer there to sustain cougar habitation. Mountain lions are no longer considered just passing through in TN. IMO

Sorry one more question. Have there been incidents that a wild animal around here has harmed a human?
