“We are assisting Campbell County in the investigation into Rhonda Daughtery’s disappearance,” he said. “However, as we’ve previously stated, we’re not confirming a connection between the missing woman and Lonnie Vann. It would be inappropriate at this time to discuss what, if anything, searchers might be trying to find.”
But Campbell County residents are concerned, because if Vann is not suspected to have a connection to Daugherty’s disappearance, that means there could potentially be a kidnapper still on the loose.
Neither Campbell County Sheriff Robbie Goins nor Chief Deputy Aaron Evans could be reached to respond to media questions about the case, and how this concern relates to the safety of area residents.
Connections between Vann and Daugherty that the Press has been able to confirm are:
1. Daugherty and Vann knew each other through their attendance at Coolidge First Baptist Church.
2. Rhonda Daugherty’s husband, Charles Daugherty, was among several people on a list to be summoned to court regarding a sexual misconduct case against Vann. Seventh District Attorney General Dave Clark declined to say why Charles Daugherty was on the list of potential witnesses in the case.
3. Rhonda Daugherty was reported missing Dec. 2, and Vann allegedly committed the armed robbery in Deerfield Dec. 5. Daugherty’s home is on the route from LaFollette to Deerfield.
4. The day after Vann was captured in Myrtle Beach, S.C. (Dec. 13), was the day the searches for Daugherty began in the Sugar Hollow boat dock area. Searches have continued since. Authorities will not specifically say what they are searching for, but have confirmed the searches are in connection with Daugherty’s disappearance. Vann’s last known address is in the same area.
