Sixty-year old Robert Townsend, a family man, lived in Brainerd, but on the morning of Friday the 13th, his body was discovered in East Chattanooga. Several neighbors in the area of 2500 Laura Street called in to Public Works and the police department in relation to an odor and Public Works went out and they found a construction dumpster that had a body that was decomposing inside.

Wow. I’m impressed with Sgt. Miller’s public plea. Maybe I just don’t get around enough but I don’t hear many LE “upfront” statements like this. Seems to me he is targeting his message to a specific audience. I hope he succeeds.

On the morning of July 13, 2018, CPD officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of Laura Street, where they say the body had been found in a bin. The Hamilton County Medical Examiner's Office identified him as 60-year-old Robert Townsend.

CPD's Violent Crimes Bureau began investigating. Police say the incident was later determined to be a homicide.

On Thursday, March 18, 2021, Chattanooga Police announced the arrest of 54-year-old Vincent Nash in the case.

Nash faces charges of 1st degree murder, especially aggravated robbery and abuse of a corpse.
