Just thinking about you Summer. Wish this story never happened. You haven’t been forgotten.

  • #702
I hope Summer's brothers are fairing well despite everything.

It's been almost 10 months since Summer disappeared and the boys were removed from the home. A lot can happen in 10 months, but whatever needed to happen in order for Don and/or Candus to regain custody has apparently not happened.
Its difficult to not have strong feelings/opinions about that (imo)

  • #703
The requirements for getting your children back after they've been removed from the home can take a lot longer than 10 months even if they're being filled. Like a woman I worked with had to stay clean for two years, with monthly tests, before she could even apply for reinstatement, and then the investigation took months.

  • #704
Right, we don't know the nitty gritty or even the exact reason(s) for removal or the reunification plan or timeframes surrounding that. Some, like you pointed out, take years, others take days or weeks.

I'm guessing a parent being recently incarcerated doesn't align with whatever plan or stipulations are in place or at least doesn't look good/help.

  • #705
Unless the two adults in question do a 180 behavioral and lifestyle change, I don't see them ever getting their children back. I think it's more likely the children may be asked to provide testimony at some point. Likely not live in a trial, but perhaps via the Judges chambers.

I see long incarceration for both parents. Even a turn of events hasn't seemed to alter their approach to life much. It would be nice if I am wrong, but at this point, things are looking very bad for this family.

Amateur opinion and speculation

Part I

Takeaway: Believe she will be found close by. Nothing has been found so far to indicate she was abducted or trafficked out of the area.

Part II

Sadly, it doesn’t sound like there has been much progress.
All possibilities remain on the table, including the possibility that she wandered away. Much data has been combed: GPS, Cell Phones, etc.

Interview with Lead Investigator Pruit.

Part 1

Pruitt - There haven't been very many cases like this. I have never worked a missing child case with all these different entities and agencies involved.

My day - I check tipline and voicemail when I first get here. I do phone calls and follow ups on any credible leads I've got. I follow up on anything that I didn't get to a good conclusion the day before. Then I go into normal caseload, of any new cases I've got. Follow-ups on them.

Reporter - They've received nearly 2000 tips.

I will follow up on everything I can to try to bring closure for this.

Reporter - Self-proclaimed online investigators and social media sleuths, have turned this case into a mess of ideas and tips. And tips have come in from everywhere across the US and even overseas. That help, Pruitt says, has led to little more than time wasted.

If these people want to help so much, we always accept applications to certify the individuals :D.

I believe that she would probably be somewhere close by. We've found nothing to lead us to believe that she's been abducted or trafficked out of the area.

I'm not going to let it go cold.

Part 2

Pruitt - It's sporadic, I mean one day you might get five leads, the next couple of days you might not get anything. It's been an active investigation. I've been devoted to since it first occurred.

The wandering away, sneaking off to go play or whatever she may have done. That is a viable option.

People are probably tired of hearing this, all possibilities are on the table. We're not completely eliminating the abduction idea. But there's nothing to lead us to believe that we need to focus on that alone.

She's was like 3ft. 40 lbs. It would be a lot easier for her to get through some of the foliage and she's lower to the ground, smaller body, a lot more flexible.

We have gone through reams and reams of data. We've collected statements. We've chased down every credible lead that has been given to us. And we are still not much further along than when we started. Surveillance videos, gps locations, cell phone tracking, cell phone data, electronic data. Anything that we can think of to get our hands on.

I would hope that she's still alive somewhere, but we also have to be open to the idea that, that is no longer a possibility.

Thank you for this! I’ll never believe it was a random stranger abduction, and I do believe if Summer just wandered off she’d have been found by now. What does that leave us? Accident, intentional harm, ‘giving’ Summer to someone (trying to tread lightly)? All MOO.

Thanks Tiff, will have to put off watching them until tomorrow evening but they sound interesting.

I sure wish this little one could be alive and happy, miracles can, and do sometimes happen. :(

Just thinking how easy it would have been for Summer to run down that "dog trail". She could have easily crossed the road from that trail. I wonder if they searched across the road? Jmo

Pruitt says the investigation has lead to the continued thought that if Summer is found, she will be nearby.” Anslee Daniels

“I believe that she would probably be somewhere close by because we have found nothing to lead us to believe that she has been abducted or trafficked OUT OF THE AREA.” Detective Pruitt

Lead investigator for Summer Wells case speaks for the first time | WJHL | Tri-Cities News & Weather

If her scent was followed to the end of the driveway or dog trail then stopped, couldn't someone have been driving by and picked her up?
A crime of opportunity.
Or she was at the end of the trail or driveway when a vehicle left the Well's home and then SW got into the car.
Either way she could be miles away from her home.

eta: Maybe LE has information or evidence that leads them to believe that she is "nearby."

Not much that hasn't already been kindly posted by @2.curious, but I've started so I'll finish :p.

Interview with Lead Detective Pruitt.
Part 3.

Pruitt - The family has attorney's involved, and that is not a direct line of communication.

Reporter - That tune is quite the change from last year, when Summer was first reported missing.

Pruitt - It was pretty good, we would show up about every day, make sure they were ok and had a decent line of communication with them.

Reporter - About a month later in July, Child Protective Services removed her three older brothers from their home and appointed attorney's to the case.

Pruitt - They have been appointed for other instances, but it bleeds over into this investigation as well.

Reporter - Summer Well's father Don was arrested late last year for driving under the influence, and violating probation.

Reporter - We obviously know that Don Wells is incarcerated here, does that play a role at all in this investigation?

Pruitt - No ma'am.

Reporter - On February 7th, the judge ordered him to serve the remainder of his 11 months and 29 day sentence in the Hawkin's County Jail.

Pruitt - With Mr. Wells, he knows when he first came into the institution, he knows that anytime he wants to talk, to let their staff know and I'll get to him as quick as I can.

Reporter - But Pruitt hopes the Wells family knows, despite the other legal troubles, they can reach out anytime.

Pruitt - Communication between me and the family have changed, but I hope that they still understand that they can come talk to me at anytime they want to.
