Now that we know the piece of candy was a peppermint I’m wondering if Summer didn’t choke on it. IMO

Woah - interesting speculation that never crossed my mind.
There has been so much emphasis put on that piece of candy...it could very well be seepage from the subconscious.

The sheriff just announced that the parents are not cooperating and have lawyered up.

I think that statement is a major clue to where this investigation is heading.

I think you are very astute, and I agree.
Wait for it....

Like she wandered off with candy, choked, and fell into a crevice?

Thanks, @Turkeytrot. I didn't know they were searching again today. It still makes me think that someone is talking.

I don't know what was asked to illicit her response. Maybe she was asked about that day? Was she asked to explain exactly in minute detail, if not, note the slowing of the pace and the extraneous information (in context of a missing little girl) before getting to Summers "Disappearing" The clip is 3:29 second and she spends 1:50 seconds before the event.
She could of said, we went the hospital because my knee war sore, they went swimming we, came home, Summer went playing downstairs then when we went to find her she was gone. Instead we get in detail about her knee, planting flowers, unpacking groceries, eating candy etc etc.. Then when she gets to Summer being missing she stops there. Oh, and how long did she take a nap for? Because if memory serves me (and i maybe wrong) this is the first i'm hearing of this.

IMO

"We" We who? Who was she napping with????????? When? Where? Who? What? when? where,Why? Where is Summer Moon Utah Wells?

I think the mention of the candy...repetitively...is interesting to note, and was just validating that to the OP.

I have always been of the belief that SW did, in fact, wander off playing while CB-W and her mother were snoozing away and met with an accident; yet to be found. However, with so many inconsistent and vague statements, it's hard not to consider other possibilities.

I wonder if Summer getting a piece of candy from Candus's mother is emphasized and repeated because it is one of the few factual and innocent things that did happen once the family arrived home. It's nice and it's true and it's easy to reflect on.

Could very well be. Given all the blurry narratives, it's just hard to say.

Transcription from Candus Harer's (Grandma) Interview with WJHL.

The interview was broken up, so tried to catch everything I could find.

Day Summer went missing

Grandma - Candus and I get up that morning, she come out and took me into the ER, because my leg was messing up on me. And we were afraid something was wrong with my knee. I have a knee replacement and she was worried that there was something wrong with it. And she took me into the hospital, and I ended up getting a shot for it, to get rid of the pain. And they prescribed me medication to take, to get the swelling down on my knee, and around my knee, because it was inflamed. And then we waited around for my prescription. Summer went swimming that day, at the horse stables I believe it was.

And then we come back, and I went in my camper after we'd brought my groceries in for me. And the boys helped with that, and of course Summer. And I laid down and went to sleep, and I got up, and I was sitting in my doorway, and we come out and Candus asked me what I was doing. I said "well we gotta transplant these little cactus' into bigger pots." And we did that, and then Summer come in and had a piece of peppermint, which is her favourite, and then she went in. She said mama "I want to go and play with the boys." Candy walked her back to the house and she asked the boys to keep an eye on her, and that's the last time I seen her.

Reporter - Tell me when you first realised Summer was missing, what was going through your mind, and what was it like here?

Grandma - To be blunt it was hell....I mean, and I apologise I'm blocked (nose I think). As everybody knows, I have a missing daughter. She's been gone for 12 years, and alls I can say is "Oh god, not again". And I couldn't do nothing but cry, and we yelled for her, and we yelled for her, and yelled for her, then.. we could not find her.

Candy was in hysterics, and we never did find her. She called 911, and she called Donnie, and we sent the boys down over the hill and I stood in front of the....over by the edge there, and watched em, and was praying to god every minute that nobody would take them. And there was no sign of her.

Reporter - Do you believe that someone took Summer, or do you believe that she wandered off? What do you believe happened?

Grandma - I believe somebody took her. I know people say it doesn't happen, but it does happen. It happens in small towns, it happens in big towns. It happens in the country, and I believe somebody took her.

Rose Bly

Grandma - Rose has been missing for 12 years. I miss her dearly, she's the baby of the family. I have three girls, but she's my baby. Candus is my baby too, but...she's my youngest one, and it's heart-breaking and then to have to go through it again with my granddaughter, Summer, is very heart-breaking. And that's what a lot of people don't understand - is what a parent goes through, what a grandmother goes through. I know it's hard for em, after they pass away from COVID, or some other tragedy. It's the not knowing, is what tears us up, it's the not knowing.

Grandma addresses Ronnie Lawson's recent comments

Grandma
- Mr. Lawson stated that Candus and the whole family have lawyered up. I can't speak for Donnie, and I know Candus hasn't because she's told me she hasn't, and I have not. If law enforcement wants to talk to me, TBI, wants to talk to me, they have my phone number. They know when I leave the state, they know when I'm here.

Reporter - Do you have an attorney yourself?

Grandma - No ma'am. He can call me anytime, he can pull up in this yard and knock on my door, and ask me any questions he wants to ask me.

Reporter - How often are you in contact with Law Enforcement, whether it be - Hawkins County Sheriff's Office, TBI, even FBI?

Grandma - They have not contacted me since the youtubers were down here, in the driveway (December), and we asked em about trespassing.

Reporter - And going off of that, are...how often is Candus in contact, or anybody in contact with the Agents working Summer's case?

Grandma - I can't speak for Candus. In the beginning they were here, off and on all the time, but now I haven't heard from em.

Online rumours and social media

Grandma - If they wanna help, that's great, but if they wanna spread lies, that's a different story. Because that's all they're doing, always spreading lies, reaching and trying to figure out "what lie can we spread now?" and I'm tired of it.

That's why I come on camera, because I am sick and tired of lies.

Grandma explains why she thinks Candus hasn't been seen on camera for a while (MSM interviews, I presume)

Grandma
- I think it had a lot to do with Dr. Phil, the way it came out on Dr. Phil, when she was out there. I was not out there. I think it hurt Candus in a way, I don't know if it's helped, or not. I don't believe it has, maybe it's got more attention out everywhere.

<modsnip - snipped broken quote>
The nap is a new element in this narrative, and these sequence of events don't line of with CB-W's rendition. I always suspected there was a nap in there somewhere. Allegedly drinking "tea", pain meds, hot summer day = nap.

I hope wherever sweet SW is, there are plenty of peppermint candies. : (

Amateur opinion and speculation

In my opinion, CW has always told what happened from her POV, so she talked about what she did inside the home. Her not saying that her mom was napping could simply be because she wasn't describing what she was doing. Different homes.

Also, in the transcript of her comments (thanks Allaboutatrial), it sounds like she was saying Candy over and over again because she's referring to the daughter. Right? Or am I misconstruing the concern about talking about the candy detail?

You're welcome.

True. Candus said after the groceries were unpacked she went into the house to hang out, laundry etc. and Grandma was in her trailer.

She never said what Grandma did in the trailer while she was at the house, and I don't believe it was ever asked in any of the interviews.
