TN TN - Summer Moon-Utah Wells Missing from Rogersville, June 2021 #34

"As of today, three years after the disappearance of Summer, Don said he and Candus are still not allowed to speak to or see their three boys. A few weeks ago, they both signed away their rights to their sons."

WOW!

There must have been way more going on than what’s been reported….To not even be allowed supervised visits is shocking. 😮

So they signed their rights away and left the state. Bizarre

Regardless of who they are or the choices they made, I have a tremendous amount of sympathy for Don and Candus. Losing their little girl to the abyss of the unknown—and then their remaining children too. I still don’t believe they were involved in Summer’s disappearance, but they brought chaos into their lives, surrounded themselves with questionable people, and made plenty of bad choices themselves. Signing away their parental rights feels like both an act of love and a release -maybe even a kind of freedom- but I’m sure it still hurts. imo

Nice words.

I guess I missed this news. I was initally surprised to hear they terminated their parental rights willingly, but suspect there is a reason which will never be made public.

Not surprised they left the state.

Where is Summer?

Agree totally. Such heartbreak for everyone in that family. May they all find safety and peace.

I’ve seen the tragic outcomes when parents or caregivers lose sight of a child even just for a moment. Recoveries from ponds, outbuildings on large properties, deep in the woods, etc. It’s heartbreaking. No amount of public judgment can ever compare to the internal nightmare those families live with every single day. Imo only

Your compassion is a beautiful thing.

I can't feel that for Don & Candus, only their children who suffered the consequences of their horrible choices in life. Hopefully the boys have received therapy and are in a loving, nurturing, home where they feel safe.

Let's not forget about their grandma. This means she has now lost a daughter (Rose, also missing since years ago), granddaughter (Summer), and now the grandsons. Unimaginable. I wonder where she is and whether she has close support. I really hope she does.

Grandma seemed a little off to me, and her leaving so soon after Summer went missing was weird. IMO

No telling what so much loss & heartache does to a person though. Can’t imagine the pain of losing a child then a grandchild

They weren't a "normal" family, most of what they did and said wasn't "normal". It became really obvious this was a very dysfunctional family that didn't become dysfunctional in this generation, if you know what I mean. I just feel really bad for the kids and I hope they get to live a normal, healthy, happy life... I can't imagine what it feel like for them to live what they did.

A few weeks ago, they both signed away their rights to their sons.

“We didn’t have a choice,” Don said. “They were going to bury us if we didn’t sign them over.”

In what way can CPS "bury you" that is any harsher than removing parental rights and access?

They were already not allowed to visit or even speak to the boys at the time they agreed to signed away all parental rights....as an alternative to "being buried"

Is this just Don not being truthful? Not fully understanding the situation? Or by buried did CPS just mean "we are confident the end result will be the same if you fight this except you will be buried in legal fees/ and loss of work days for all the times ypu will have to attend court attempting to fight this?

IMO the parents “buried” themselves by not complying with mandated steps for receiving the boys back into their custody. Unfortunately CPS isn’t legally allowed to respond to accusations by Don and Candus so we’re only hearing one side.

At one time Don said they were working on making the house safe for the boys- right before he was arrested for drunk driving and violating his probation. He went to jail for a number of months.

The next we heard was that the parents were planning on selling the house and moving out of state. No further word on parenting plans for reunification.

Don and Candus are quick to blame everyone and everything for their problems except themselves. They made their choices and the priorities weren’t their children. JMO

Could Don have been referring to charges they would face? Say for neglect or child endangerment? Perhaps signing the boys over was part of a plea deal?

Perhaps the boys shared information that’s damning but aren’t reliable enough of witnesses or they’d been already too traumatized?
IMO
I have always thought that whatever the boys shared with the authorities about what life was like living there coupled with the horrible living arrangements, is what led to them being removed from their parents.

Probably this and also by signing away their rights it would take some of the pressures off them of being under a microscope and having every move they made or would make be front page news.

I have always thought and still do think the parents were involved some way. And given what we do know now, JMO, but C & D were never going to be able to get it together enough to get those boys back. I also think the boys are better off or at least it is with a great hope they will be. Prayers 🙏. JMO.

Just catching up on this news. This act may have been the most important gift they've given their boys. An opportunity to move forward, without them, for a better, more stable life and future. And I'm with you on teh above. I've never believed they were responsible for harming or disappearing their daughter. They are not sympathetic people. They are a mess in all the ways you describe. I wish their boys the best.

I agree that they were removed because they most likely shared details about their life that seemed normal to them, but actually weren't okay for children to be living/witnessing. The parents didn't even try very hard to get them back. I hope the kids are doing okay.
