Horrific. I hope to see an arrest soon.

Someone knocked knowing she was home alone, that's my thought. She let them in because she knew them. The assault was violent and fatal. Hopefully DNA everywhere inside. I'm thinking case is so quiet because detectives already know the who and are just surveiling him while the collect the rope to hang this monster. Very scary.

I remember back to being a latch key kid in the late 70s. We were forbidden. To answer door to ANYONE when alone except our parents or grandparents. Had to talk to my best friend's mom through the mailbox slot because I was more afraid of my mom than of looking stupid (could have been much mom's plan to see if I was rule following or not , lol).

Anyway. This poor young child met an evil predator, that I'll bet she knew. Hoping any day for an update or arrest. Her poor mother.

All Just my opinion which also gets tangled up with my imagination.

Or no one actually knocked, but someone sent a text from her phone saying someone did.

But why do that? No upside for the murderer.

Poor little sweetheart. I'm thinking it's someone close by who knew she was alone. I hope they know who and will make an arrest soon.

Hmmm. I could imagine someone who wouldn't need to knock doing that. "Joe couldn't be the killer, he doesn't knock. He has a key."

This case is really doing something to me. Probably because I feel like this was someone she knew and trusted. I can't remember if this was mentioned, does mom have a man in her life?

Roy Coons Jr. was indicted by a grand jury Monday morning on charges of first-degree premeditated murder, two counts of first-degree felony murder, attempted rape of a child, and especially aggravated burglary.

Coons is accused in the brutal strangulation of Yhoana Arteaga, whose mother returned home on Aug. 10 to find her dead inside their home on Old Dickerson Pike.

This is awesome news.

I wonder if this was similar to Heather... where the burglary was the initial motive and then they were surprised by the girl being home. Since the neighbors weren't close he wouldn't have known she was injured.

The knocking could have been to verify no one was home. If no one answers they break in. She could have taken long enough getting to the door that he started to break in... so she knew what he was doing.

Awful regardless.

Poor little sweetheart. I'm thinking it's someone close by who knew she was alone. I hope they know who and will make an arrest soon.

Metro police say the 45-year-old man lives two doors down from the Arteaga family, and while they didn’t know each other, they at least “knew of” each other.

Evidence found at the scene reportedly led to Coons’ identification, and authorities say the “meticulous processing of the crime scene” and “scientific analysis” of evidence was “critical to the investigation.”

Metro police say records show he has been convicted of more than 30 offenses, both felonies and misdemeanors, since 1992, including charges for trespassing, DUI, disorderly conduct, and reckless endangerment.

Coons was last convicted of felony marijuana possession and unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon in January 2016. He got an eight-year probated sentence.

Neighbors say Coons lives in the mobile home community for about a decade.

Margaret Harper said he cut grass and washed cars.

"I’ve seen him out here mowing lawns thinking he’s got the nerve," said Harper,

Harper said she has suspected him from the beginning.

“My gut feeling was, he’s got a guilty conscience," said Harper.

She told police about an incident involving him at the Yhoana's vigil.

"I walked over and put a candle in his hand and all he did was dropped his head and walked away. I said to some detectives, 'Did you see that?'" said Harper.

He had been identified since the initial stages of the investigation as a possible suspect. DNA, among other "scientific analysis" of evidence by both MNPD and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation led to Coons, MNPD Chief Steve Anderson said.
