I see what you are saying, but I am not convinced that Joe didn't have something to do with Haleigh's disappearance. They're too cool to tell the truth. Rat out one of their own? Never. & that's the main reason I don't think Joe is responsible. They would've just rallied round him, & treated him like a victim. They're not scared of that skinny dude. He lived in Tennessee & had no power over them. Tommy, who was a lot bigger then, could've overpowered him with just one punch. & with Misty as his sidekick? they could've beaten him to death. & saved Haleigh...& I don't believe that Joe sexually assaulted Misty while her loving brother just stood by-too petrified to intervene. That's ridiculous. & if Joe had a gun, & or knife, how did he have enough free hands, to assault Haleigh, bag her up, & at the same time, physically threaten Tommy? Tommy's either the biggest chicken, ever born, or he's lieing. just the thought of being cut, rendered him helpless? what was he supposedly thinking, during all of this? better Haleigh than me? makes no danged sense, & I'm not buying it. all of this is just MOO.
From most reports, he was carrying a huge grudge against Ron that night.
I think it may be true that he went there looking for something to steal, some way to retaliate against Ron in a way that would make a loud and clear statement to Ron.
I think it is possible that Misty and Tommy also shared a resentment of Ron, to a somewhat lesser degree.
I remember watching an interview of Joe- I believe he was sitting on a couch, and his attorney was present. Something about his facial expression convinced me he was flat out lying when he denied any involvement that night.
I just can't shake the feeling that maybe Joe was the central force in Haleigh's abduction. Tommy may have been high as a kite, along for the ride, not fully understanding Joe's intentions with Haleigh until it was too late, and he was then, by all intents of the law, too involved to do the right thing.
Maybe that is when the cover-up began for Misty and Tommy- not trying to protect Cousin Joe, but trying to protect Tommy.
