This has popped up on various blog sites but I think it originated here, with Anorak - which is a must-bookmark compendium of various newspapers and their reporting and foibles, UK-based, but here featuring not only the easily floggable UK tabloid red-tops but also papers in the U.S., Canada, and Australia:

A column by Glenn Garvin on Dec. 20 stated that the National Science Foundation “funded a study on Jell-O wrestling at the South Pole.” That is incorrect. The event took place during off-duty hours without NSF permission and did not involve taxpayer funds.
