"Two men face human trafficking-related charges after a 22-year-old woman was allegedly drugged, beaten and forced at gunpoint to perform sex acts for money.

Toronto Police say the victim was even tattooed to make it known who she belonged to.

Members of the Human Trafficking Enforcement Team began an investigation into a report of human trafficking on Jan. 25.

“It is alleged that a man utilized a noxious substance to render a 22-year-old woman unconscious and then control her,” Det.-Sgt. Nunzio Tramontozzi said in a statement released Tuesday.

“He pressured and coerced her to work in the sex trade,” the Sex Crime Unit investigator alleged. “He tattooed her body with his nickname of ‘Sosa’ to let people know that she was his property.”

"It was reported that that the men used deception, intimidation and fear to exercise control over the woman’s actions. Police said that during this time she was exploited, assaulted, threatened with a firearm by both men and continued to be drugged to keep her awake to service clients.

Both men allegedly kept the money she earned.

On February 19, Simon Ho-On, 23, of Toronto, was arrested and charged multiple offences including human trafficking, assault, advertising another person for sexual services and exercising control.

One month later, Domenic Lees, 24, of Whitby, was arrested and charged with 12 offences including human trafficking, assault, theft, administering noxious substances, threatening bodily harm and advertising another person for sexual services.

Police say they are concerned there may be more alleged victims and are encouraging anyone affected by the two suspects to come forward."

So many posters here insist it doesn't happen to women with this type of profile. I wonder why this older girl who's a student was targeted. It would be interesting to know what made her vulnerable. They may be new to the area, might not have a lot of friends, could have a large financial debt, could be starting to go out more, meet new people, and might not be aware of the possibility of being sexual exploited,” Carswell said.

“The region’s proximity to the 401 makes it a target.”

Carswell said women from the ages of about 14 to 25 of all ethnicities and socioeconomic backgrounds are at risk, but many victims are marginalized and isolation from friends and family makes people vulnerable."

I assume this general theory would apply to the US as well as Canada? Should save this article for the next time the question of trafficking is shot down because the victim does not fit the classic notion of "marginalized" or "vulnerable." MOO.

Naila Chowdhury, UC San Diego’s Director of Social Impact and Innovation (SII), based in the Qualcomm Institute, says that human trafficking on university campuses primarily takes the form of sexual exploitation. She recounted the story of one West Coast student who came to the U.S. from overseas to discover she had trouble finding the money for food and lodging. A friend offered to lend her money, but when she couldn’t repay it, the same ‘friend’ took the student to a hotel, where she was gang-raped by several men.

“These so-called ‘sugar daddies’ and buyers’ representatives are targeting students at universities, high schools and middle schools, and the cycle will continue until we collaborate and address it,” observed Chowdhury. “It has become a critical and tragic issue of our society, and now we want UC San Diego to be a lead champion both at the university level and in county schools. We want to create awareness in our campus community and to help students become defenders and ambassadors themselves in the effort to stop human trafficking.”

• Assault with a weapon
• Possession of dangerous weapon
• Administer Noxious Substance
• Forcible Confinement
• Sexual Assault with a Weapon

A photograph of the accused has been released.

Thank you for the update! So glad to see other victims have had the courage to come forward so that Ho-On now has even more charges. I hope it results in his lengthy incarceration and serves as a deterrent to similar-minded miscreants. MOO.

This is a rareity if there isnt more to it.

Traffickers do not go around looking for perfect white middle class women to abduct and put into sexual slavery. Thats is scare tatics and hysteria passed through unreliable blogs with agendas and ficticious novels.

Statistics show it.

Regardless, sad this happened to her, they deserve life.
