Tough love or too far?

While I don't think this method will work- i think the Mum is doing what she think is the best for him. I am guessing that this mother probably does not have money or time to consider further education for herself. I went to university as a mature student at 36 and completed an undergraduate degree and a have student loan -but I did find a job in my field after completing my degree. But it sure is much harder as a mature student and I already had all the qualifications required to undertake the degree. Many people do not and have to take high schools classes first before doing anything else. The one thing I have told my kids is study when they finish high school... as its very hard when you are older.
