Trail to the Water & Cadaver dog hits

  • #141
my thoughts too....

*If* this is the first time cadaver dogs have been used here, LE should be in deep doo-doo......the trailer is a 'crime scene', plus there have been several searches of the neighborhood.

At least cadaver dogs *might* make it clear if LE is looking for a 'live' child...

On the link posted earlier, the gentleman they interviewed said this isn't the first time they have had dogs all over the area...

Update: The search for Haleigh

February 26, 2009 - 1:43 PM

Police said that in most cases, something is found within half a mile of crime scene on a second search.

The Putnam County Sheriffs Office called in the K9 South unit from Georgia to search and they did bring cadaver dogs. There are seven dogs searching today and 12 dogs plan to be used tomorrow in the search for little Haleigh. The dog handlers refused to speak to media or answer questions.

These are cadaver dogs too!
I am afraid they will find her little body right under their noses..Just like Caylee.

Yes, and Jessica Lunsford as well ,she was only across road ,buried behind neighbors back porch. (Grrrr..have i mention i hate John Couey?)

Oh, I have no doubt cadaver dogs have been there a few times during the searches in the past two weeks. They don't wait this long when someone is missing to include them. With the FBI being brought in early, they would insure the dogs were on the scene and searching.

In this video (near 6 min mark) the dog tried many times to pull it's handler towards the woods on the left side of the road but he kept pulling him back..1-2x the dog appeared to be very adamant about it..I don't get why the handler was so adamant about not letting the dog go over in that direction..Did anyone else notice this & do you have a (reasonable) explanation to what was going on? TIA!

I noticed that, too. Why were they just walking down the road, there was nothing to be found there.

It's unbelievable it took so long to find her so close..I recall after the fact there was a lot of flack about this & also that they didn't investigate inside the trailer & the sister (?) more throughly..Was anyone in LE ever reprimanded for what seemed to most of us as an inexcusable screwup?

I felt that way too watching the video, but my guess is that the dog handler's "know" their dogs, and know what there doing. Just glad they are out there looking for Haleigh.

Maybe they were headed to a particular spot? but if the dog was this eager to go some place else it's very  to me why his actions were just ignored.

I think it had more to do with the ways the laws were written back then, it was not required for the family member to inform LE that Cuey was a RSO and staying with them. They were not required to allow LE to search their home. Mark has worked very hard to get those laws changed and many of them were with Jessica's law. JMO

Was that a bowl of water, or was it a well? Looked like it was corogated tin to me. Wells are often made of that.
I agree the dog wasn't hitting on it, but rather drinking from it... I thought it was odd for them to allow the dog to drink from it, considering they don't know what is in it .. looked like a triangular shaped pen with nothing in it..wonder what if anything was in it recently...

I think it was a well after watching it again.....

I'm sure the handlers know the dogs much better than I could even try.

I do recall the sister wasn't charged cos of the law (reporting RSO) at the time..So, the sister also refused to let them search inside the trailer?..Jessica was eventually found by searching the property with dogs so I'm guessing that was allowed?

I admire Mark so much! :)

That must be why but it still appeared very odd to me.

Hi Bogeygal, The methods they use in directing the dogs on a search are hard to understand for us lay people. But the handler does have a method to how he lets the dogs search.

In Madeleine's case we watched many videos of the dogs searching cars. It was hard to understand, as the handler would prompt the dog where to go sniff, etc. Giving the dog commands, like a German Colonel would. LOL We thought, hey, just let that little doggie go where he wants! Nopey Nope.

The handler is so important to a dogs searching. I do know the dog will walk around an area when he starts to sniff something, then approach it from different angles and finally come back to the spot.

I think one would have to know all the intracasies {sp} of how a dog zones in on an odour. I do know the odour comes in waves and waft down in the air, hitting certain parts of his nose - but that is pretty O/T to explain here and would be good for the dog thread. I know I can find the link that explains how they do this and will post it on the dog thread tonight. xox

Take a look--one of the dogs appears to alert at 2:35 by lying down.
Point of interest: at 1:00 - searchers pass cinder blocks

Hi Indigo,

Don't know if this means anything, but i did notice the dog Alerts(barks) at 4:33. Officers walking in lower right area of screen. Then at 4:35 communication, can not make out what was said...

Since this was probably also designed as a grid search by the dogs, I just assumed that the handler was keeping the dog from going off the road to the left because other dogs were covering that area. It was funny when the dog stopped for a drink....just a reminder that though they are smart and well trained, they are after all, dogs, and it was probably hot out there!

HLN just said one of the cadaver dogs hit on the dumpster 1/4 mile from Haleigh's house.

There sure has been many interesting developments tonight concerning dogs. Don't know if that's good or bad. O/T a little, but I am such a non-emotional person that I rarely cry. When all this broke, big tears swelled up in my eyes. I just couldn't help it. Ok, back to the dogs . . There has been a lot of discussion about the trail the tracking dogs took and if they were really following her scent. I don't doubt that the trail thru the park could have been the path that the school bus took that morning/afternoon. However, I still firmly believe when the dog exited thru the back door and to the water, that was her freshest scent. Does anybody know where the dumpster ( that was searched today) sits in relation to the water? TIA. . .
