This board is fantastic! We can laugh, we can cry, it all comes full circle. Or is that full triangle???? *shout out to our boy GUS*

Speaking of, do we know if he may come back or was that it? It'll be sad not to say g-bye!!

Full Triangle. Brilliant! I think that sounds like a book/movie title. Starring Gus of course. A magician turned Egyptian tomb hunter. ???

What trial are these reporters watching????????

http://abcnews.go.com/US/jodi-arias-boyfriend-lied-sex-lewd-photos/story?id=18368010

Accused murderer Jodi Arias was kept away from the Mormon friends of her lover Travis Alexander and their torrid sex affair was kept secret by Alexander, even as he sent lewd photos of himself to her online, according to court testimony today.

The testimony in Arias' trial for killing Alexander in 2008 was intended to bolster the defense's argument that she killed him in self defense, that Alexander was a sexual deviant who treated Arias as his "dirty little secret."

Unbelievable.

Thank you so much for sharing the goings on inside the courtroom today.
I'd also like to thank you for all you do for victims families. So often they are the forgotten ones.
I hate how Travis is being trashed by the defense. It breaks my heart for him and his family.

I am familiar with the Orbin case. She says she's innocent, but I believe she is guilty and just plain evil.

As we were driving down the street Travis' sisters and BIL were crossing the street in front of us. We stopped (hubby was with me) and Tanisha looked and smiled. The courtroom lighting and cameras don't do them justice, they're quite striking in person.

And thanks to you for sharing as well - i like knowing she smiled!

Thank you Sleuth.

In a small nutshell, my sister Cindy was murdered in 1988 by a German man and his brother in a "let's marry American women and take out big insurance policies on them then kill them and get rich" scheme. She was their first (and last) victim. They were both sentenced to Death in 1990.

She was killed on Dec. 23 and her body was found in the desert on Christmas Eve by a young boy out 4 wheeling with his Dad who came to court and testified "I thought it was a deer". :(

It was a very sophisticated premeditated plan and cover up--they nearly got away with it but their 3rd accomplice turned on them. Yet just a couple years ago after a 7 year appeal which cost tax payers over 10 million dollars one of them was released from Death Row to L with parole on a MENTAL RETARDATION claim. he will be up for parole in 5 years now but luckily has a second sentence to fulfill for the conspiracy charge..another 25 years. They will both die in prison. But he almost could have gotten out (another story).

Cindy was killed much like Travis. Over 30 stab wounds and nearly decapitated. No gun shot though. Like Travis' family I avoided crime scene/autopsy photos 100% (I wouldn't even be in the courtroom ) but horrifically ran in to one online a few years ago and thought I was going to lose my mind...seriously. So I know alot of what they are dealing with. Cindy was my only sister. Just 14 months older than me. She was my lifeline.

That's it, in a nutshell. Thanks for the love, you and everyone. :)

I'm so sorry. I didn't realize she was your sister. When I think of her case the thing that comes to mind is the clip that was shown of her being a contestant on the Price is Right.

I'm not referring to the data displayed on the photo or on a user interface such as a windows explorer, I'm referring to the timestamp included in the ObjectID which is usually about 12 bytes long and is uneditable. Is this not standard with ObjID's I believe it is. Usually it's a long string of bytes that looks like random garbage but actually encapsulates data in an encrypted fashion. Apology if this is incorrect. But I believe it's how they were able to verify time stamps from the photos Jodi tried to erase that never even had time stamps on them.
Do you have a source or citation for this? The unreliability of timestamps has even been brought up in court.

In United States v. Stokes, there was an effort to attempt to exclude timestamps from consideration because of the ability for them to be modified. The court ruled them admissible on the grounds that the investigator merely attests to what the timestamps say (and defense can challenge the timestamps during cross-examination), and the jury can decide for themselves the reliability of the timestamps.

This is also an issue that came up during the Duke Lacrosse case.

Timestamps aren't infallible, and EXIF data and headers can be easily altered... When you have photos still on a memory card in a camera, the reliability may be greater. When you have temporal clues, like clocks in pictures or things like that... reliability is greater. But random photos on a random hard drive? If someone wanted to set someone up for something, that'd be the way to do it.

That is absolutely amazing that you remember that! Yes, it was some video I had of her that I gave the media back then. It was from a fun time. Wow, thanks for remembering...you have an excellent memory!

I think the one thing we can also share with this family are our tears.

I never knew his name. Anybody know it? He's a very good man.

On a side note , Mormon women are BEAUTIFUL. I've noticed this before in my area but dang I don't know if it's that wholesome living or what. LDS women have a high ratio of natural beauty I've noticed.

His name is Harold according to her FB info.
HTH

I agree, there are many beautiful Mormon women here in town.

But I will agree that there are ways to deceive the system if the forensic team is not digging deep enough. I can see where the sys clock may alter things - i would also think there is a way to tell if the image was sourced/altered on the device it was found (ie computer) or copied there from another storage device. If sourced there then hopefully forensics are checking the system for any time changes, etc. I think when I originally responded to the post I was addressing the question of what I would call "topical" data. If it had been altered and was incongruent with underlying data stored at the object level, then in that case I would think a good forensic could determine tampering. That's really the lines I was thinking along.

We're talking about pictures on an external hard drive. For one, the system may not be available for examination to see if time changes have occurred. Even if you look at files on a bit-by-bit level to see where the data is stored on the platter, that doesn't mean anything conclusively. An older file can be copied to a hard drive, making it appear in newer clusters. And forget it if you defrag the drive.

There are some indicators of various things, but like I said in my post above... A random picture on a random hard drive is a really good way to set someone up for failure if that was your wish.

Thanks for this!

I love Daft Punk, and I love this song (harder better faster stronger) - have it bookmarked on my Pandora station. Great for working out.

So someone was attempting to access that video and kept typing it wrong? Is that how we are to read this?

My observations of Tanisha TODAY.

She had her hair styled in a perfect, absolutely perfect fancy french braid. Her makeup, as usual was perfect. She was styled in a teal dress and accessorized to the T. For a person surviving in the situation she is, she wakes up every morning, has the wherewithall to fix her hair, do her makeup and wear a stylish outfit. All of the family, to me,looks as if they are dressed for church.

I imagine she thinks "I can do this for Travis" as she has to groom herself for court every day. When I imagine most days she would like to stay in bed and pull the covers up over her head.

I will add with the risk of sounding judgmental but to make a point. Tanisha has a pear shaped figure. She is thin on top and actually, she has some HIPS. She is by no means skinny if you see her entire body standing. She has a nice figure but she is a person who might in other situations judge her own "thighs". I'm telling you, she is not drastically thin. And really, who would give a crap if she was? She's going through a damn murder trial. Maybe she has a hard time eating. For God's sake. She's very supported...can we just leave it at that?

Thank you, Katiecoolady. Thanks for bearing witness for Travis's sister. That IS support, even if she never knows.

I am somewhat "new" to following cases. As in, new since Casey Anthony. That case caught my attention because I was so appalled at the 30 days thing-- and more appalled as time when on. It's something I somewhat conceal from friends, but my close family all knows (and some think I'm nuts). They give me some space on the issues of following these cases, and I appreciate that. I seldom discuss any of the cases I follow outside of these forums. I have a family member that was murdered in 1995-- at the time, I was a military officer deployed to the middle east. Before that, murders were just something that happened on the news for me. The murderer committed suicide 2 days later, so our family was "spared" a trial.

In cases such as Travis', I just wish there were some way to convey to the family that not everyone delights in the courtroom, re-victimization of the deceased. I really hope that they know that Travis is valued and held close-- despite the efforts to defile him, or embarass his memory, etc. So what if he liked adventurous sex, or looked at wild pics, or had fantasies-- I could care less. He was a wonderful, kind and caring, handsome, healthy young man, by nearly every description. He was a contributing, law abiding member of society. He was loved by many, and had lots of genuine friends. The violent deaths of victims like Travis affect us all. There is so little any of us can *really* do, except bear witness to the person that they were, their memory, and the truth of the horrible way they died. That is something valuable, I think.

It seems so little, but I'd like to thank you, Katiecoolady, for sharing with Travis's family that we (here at WS) simply stand with them to bear witness. Bearing witness doesn't always seem enough to help someone bear that pain, but it is something genuine. Even from strangers. And I sincerely hope that this can be a small sliver of comfort for them.

Every time I learn about another horrific case, I wonder if it really matters, if it is enough to simply "bear witness." And every time I decide that it must be, even if it doesn't seem to be enough at a given moment in time. It's a quiet solidarity, but solidarity nonetheless.
