Good morning everyone! Something just hit me last night after hearing a clip of the defense attorney's (the woman) opening statement. I'll try to be as delicate as possible since I bet there are people that haven't even gotten their morning caffeine yet.

The lawyer was referring to Travis's sex fantasy. It involved a tree, Jodi's backside and 'putting it all the way in'.

I have never been in an abusive relationship so I may be way off but if someone is an abuser do they really give a hoot if sex is on the painful side? Travis's so called fantasy (if true) suggests that while the two engaged in anal intercourse it never went past the comfort of Jodie. Does that sound like an abuser? It doesn't to me.

Excellent point

I am of the opinion Travis's Family has done some healing as the years have passed. Have found some semblance of a "new normal". Appears they are supported and support each other tremendously. I'm sure this Trial and the realities of it have brought the agony once again to the forefront. I cant imagine and pray I never have to. MOO

I reconcile it with opening up a wound. Peeling back the layers

I'm Ok with defense trashing the victim if it essential to show the victim had exhibited behavior that supports the def claims. For example, if a woman takes out an RSO on her abusive husband and he beats her and she pushes him down the stairs in a struggle, I think it's necessary to show how he treated her to put her actions into context. Victim bashing has gone on forever. It's not new. Some times even warranted. Think of all the mafia killing trials. This concept is ok when in proper context.

However all they've got in this case is a guy who may have lied to friends/family, cheated on his girlfriends and used women for sex. Yeah?? So what?? They just described hundreds of thousands of guys in America. Should we round em all up and shoot them too? Oh, and slit their throats? And butcher them
29 times?

In the example given there is relevance.

All they have "on" Travis is that he was spiritually conflicted and had sex before marriage with one woman....he did not "use women for sex". That one woman stalked him and used sex to keep drawing him back to the relationship. None of that has anything to do with the defendant's claim of self defence.

Hi Stolat -

I am rewatching this part today, and it is very confusing. First, he clearly says he analyzed the Compaq Presario, which we know belonged to Travis.

Then he said he received a laptop-sized hard disk in October, with some parts that could have been a case for that drive. I didn't catch anyone ever saying where that came from. The witness did not say anything about what data he analyzed from that.

Next, the lawyer asked him if he received in November a mirror image of an external drive that had been damaged and sent to a recovery service by Pima Cty LE. He said some data was marked unrecoverable by that service, but he found the backup master file table (or something like that) which enabled him to access files on the drive.

I didn't catch anyone saying the mirror was in fact an image of the 2.5 in laptop sized disk he received in Oct.

But that image is where those pictures came from that he flashed the courtroom with.

No where in that testimony did I hear anyone say where the image came from that contained those pictures.

I've watched several trials, and it seems like they always start out with identifying where the evidence came from.

I can't understand how this could help the defense in any case, whether the pictures were found on Jodi's drive, or Travis'. I know this testimony is not over, but I guess I just don't have the imagination to see how this is related to abuse.

Hi Chester!

You pretty much figured it out. Hopefully the jurors will too. Def basically vomited snippets of vague evidence out there in hopes the jury with infer their own connections. I'm surprised actually that this was not objected to.

It's like putting a blue pen, red pen and green pen out on a table and showing you a piece of paper with green ink, asking you to identify the correct pen - when in fact the answer may be "none of them" - it may be the ink from a completely different pen not on the table whose outside color is yellow.

I am left wondering did JA damage that HD on purpose and if so, why. I know the DA's asked for a delay back in November so that they could exam text messages and pictures that this HD contained.

hello, everyone.. i am new here.. but i must admit that i've been lurking for the past few days, and am still not completely caught up on some of the details (for instance, i still have not watches the police interrogation, on july 15th, i think it was?) ... you are all amazing, by the way. incredibly intelligent, thought provoking, funny, and genuinely caring people.. if, universe forbid, something awful ever happened to me or my family, i would want y'all to be giving my grief such powerful consideration.

now to try to contribute...

in reference to today's (seemingly irrelevant) male appendage photos, does anyone know what the "time stamp" could be referring to? are they talking about when the photo was taken or when the photo was acquired on the hard drive?

thanks in advance!

:welcome: :wagon:

:greetings:

Here's my opinion on the defense in a nutshell:
1. Bring witness to the stand.
2. Witness testimony ends up being more pro-prosecution during cross.
3. Nurmi cries himself to sleep holding giant fuzzy teddy bear.

Good morning everyone :-) I am so far behind in reading, but I have been watching the trial on IS, ( been stuck in bed with this flu bug) does anyone know who JA keeps staring at in the court room? I could swear I saw her do a very slight nod after staring (again) at someone. Thanks! I can't wait to get back here to my computer to read what you all have to say, sure wish I had a lap top :/ I think JA has more ex-boyfriends than FCA.

Thank you, Katiecoolady. Thanks for bearing witness for Travis's sister. That IS support, even if she never knows.

I am somewhat "new" to following cases. As in, new since Casey Anthony. That case caught my attention because I was so appalled at the 30 days thing-- and more appalled as time when on. It's something I somewhat conceal from friends, but my close family all knows (and some think I'm nuts). They give me some space on the issues of following these cases, and I appreciate that. I seldom discuss any of the cases I follow outside of these forums. I have a family member that was murdered in 1995-- at the time, I was a military officer deployed to the middle east. Before that, murders were just something that happened on the news for me. The murderer committed suicide 2 days later, so our family was "spared" a trial.

In cases such as Travis', I just wish there were some way to convey to the family that not everyone delights in the courtroom, re-victimization of the deceased. I really hope that they know that Travis is valued and held close-- despite the efforts to defile him, or embarass his memory, etc. So what if he liked adventurous sex, or looked at wild pics, or had fantasies-- I could care less. He was a wonderful, kind and caring, handsome, healthy young man, by nearly every description. He was a contributing, law abiding member of society. He was loved by many, and had lots of genuine friends. The violent deaths of victims like Travis affect us all. There is so little any of us can *really* do, except bear witness to the person that they were, their memory, and the truth of the horrible way they died. That is something valuable, I think.

It seems so little, but I'd like to thank you, Katiecoolady, for sharing with Travis's family that we (here at WS) simply stand with them to bear witness. Bearing witness doesn't always seem enough to help someone bear that pain, but it is something genuine. Even from strangers. And I sincerely hope that this can be a small sliver of comfort for them.

Every time I learn about another horrific case, I wonder if it really matters, if it is enough to simply "bear witness." And every time I decide that it must be, even if it doesn't seem to be enough at a given moment in time. It's a quiet solidarity, but solidarity nonetheless.

That is one of the most profound posts I've ever read. Thank you so much. Did you know I used the word "solidarity" about the WS forum in my note to Travis family? Thank you so much for this.

Respectfully snipped from CarolinaMoon's Post # 274

The only material from a 1000+ page report was the listing of the 4 Amish use to back up Jodi's story.

Can someone just refresh my memory??

Thanks!!

Im confused.:D So Jodi's hard drive was damaged too?

Did they ever say yesterday which computer the photos were sent to?

tia

I think the point here is that the damaged hard drive the expert was talking about yesterday was Jodi's ..that's where the penis pics came from.

Excellent point

Thank you. I understand the defense is trying to do the best they can with what they were dealt but it bothers me that it means dragging a dead man's name and reputation through the mud.

The prosecutor is combating this strategy by having witnesses confirm what a decent guy the victim was and I was thinking of other things which disprove that Travis was an abuser.

Feel better ASAP. Katie might be able to answer if she observed who Jodi was looking at. If i had to guess I would assume her Mother and Friends.

What trial are these reporters watching????????

http://abcnews.go.com/US/jodi-arias-boyfriend-lied-sex-lewd-photos/story?id=18368010

Accused murderer Jodi Arias was kept away from the Mormon friends of her lover Travis Alexander and their torrid sex affair was kept secret by Alexander, even as he sent lewd photos of himself to her online, according to court testimony today.

The testimony in Arias' trial for killing Alexander in 2008 was intended to bolster the defense's argument that she killed him in self defense, that Alexander was a sexual deviant who treated Arias as his "dirty little secret."

Looks like the defence team succeeded in getting the exact type of media hype they wanted. They are hoping there is a juror out there reading and watching. Shame on them.

Her mother. Beth Karras has mentioned that when JA enters the room, she acknowledges her mother with a nod.

I think you are 100% right about it having zero relevance and certainly did not justify murder.

I beg to differ with you on what constitutes "using a woman for sex" - a guy who has sex with a woman repeatedly, has no intention on marrying her and in fact is pursuing other women he DOES want to marry, while lying about it, and hides his so-called sex toy from his friends is most certainly using her for sex. I didn't spend hundreds of dollars in therapy in my youth only to discover my therapist had *lied* to me about what some jerk had been doing to me - which was the essentially the same thing as TA. Don't fool yourself - he was using her like a nasty muddy doormat. But she let him - and that's where the blame SOLELY rests- with her. And it doesn't make him a monster, it doesn't make him a villain and it doesn't mark him for death - (it doesn't make him a great Christian either). And I don't think it's very relevant to the case either and I don't think any of it matters or belongs in court. If he physically beat her, I would have a different opinion.
