After she's convicted, the role of the mitigation specialist is to tell you every little boo-hoo that ever happened to JA over her entire life in order to lessen (mitigate) her personal responsibility for her crime. In my view, it really amounts to nothing more than making excuses in the hopes of gaining enough sympathy for a LWOP sentence.

Um. Okay. Most psychologists may extrapolate that if someone is lying about something irrelevant they may very well lie about relevant matters.
