She's testifying for the defense. She is there on behalf of Jodi. She is there to try and validate all of the lies about Travis. She is a hired mouth to bash Travis Alexander. All I need to know. I despise her.

I *thought* I read somewhere she was going to testify for JM but then switched sides. That's only readsay but can anyone sustain or overrule?

Umm....Approach.:floorlaugh:

Actually, although we've only heard a little bit from Laviolette, I already like her better than Samuels for some reason. I mean, she comes across as kind of down to earth and honest. We'll see ....

She admits she went to community college, admits she doesn't have her PhD. Very matter of fact doesn't seem to feel that makes her look bad. So, yes, she's a whole 'nother species than the good "doctor."

I hope that wasn't directed at me because pointing out that someone is gay is not an insult. What people DO with a fact is up to them.
Gay people are a part of our race. Their life style is none of our business or concern.

bbm... Then why did you feel the need to bring it up? It is none of our business or concern and has no bearing on this case.

Good grief. Is this her Lifetime Achievement Award Ceremony? We get it. This case please.

Didn't Politan say this witness is for the State?
Also that she will be honest in her evaluation.?

She is a defense witness hence Willmott questioning her first.

Understandable... I'd bet no domestic violence expert could treat and study only make victims. They would starve to death! There is such a stigma attached ... It's like male victims of sexual assault. In our society ... It's just not encouraged to report, acknowledged or understood by the public.

Often the males don't even see it that way themselves!

She sure does see like she does not think much about abused en,her tone changes when she is talking about abused men.She works with child custody and they are notorious for being against men.She is selling out every abused woman she has ever claimed to help if she is on that stand to help an abuser.Their are woman who hate men and she is a single mother so no matter why it did not work out I bet it's all her ex's fault!

10 more minutes. Nothing apart from her credentials today.

Did she say abrahamlincoln and clinton

Yes... And my gut tells me she would see through JA. She has extensive experience to draw from, I would think a lying woman would not pull the wool over her eyes. (I could literally walk to her office from my beach office) how weird...
Samuels should have seen Arias for what she was too. Evidentially he either couldn't or wouldn't admit it. Let's see if she does.

I don't give a flip what she looks like or what her own personal philosophies are. I do care, very much, that she validate male victims of domestic abuse every bit as much as their female counterparts.

My concern, after reading several of her papers and watching a few of her keynote speeches, is that she does show bias towards female victims. In reality, a good 90% of DV victims are women - but it won't help men to come forward if even advocates won't fully concede they can be every bit as abused or victimized, and sometimes even more so, than females.

I have to question, as an advocate, how she could seemingly ignore very common abusive characteristics Jodi has displayed but I guess we'll find out soon enough.

I think this witness is coming across as quite likable so far. I have feeling I am going to regret that - hope she saw through Jodi's BS.

Well if she did would the defence be putting her on the stand? Unlikely.

MOO

Lets me honest here. Any expert in domestic violence the bulk of experience is going to be on abusive men.

Yes but you felt this was understandable...

I am saying if she has any bias she should not be an expert.

That's exactly what I got from the one article of hers that I read.

I'm still hopeful that JM will be able to confront her with all the information that the defense never gave her, and she will change her assessment.

Samuels was irredeemable, I hope that Juan Martinez, rather than sounding like he's an "abuse denialist" makes the case to her that it was Travis Alexander that was being abused up to and including the point he was butchered.

If Dr. LaViolette rejects that idea out of hand, despite his having no history of abuse or violence, there being no proof he was abusive and, well, his dead body, then she's just a political tool.
