One of the TH's made a comment Friday, that she (this witness), and JM had already butted heads.

Well then, this is really, really going to be interesting!!:great:

I read her CV this weekend. It's 20 pages long (lots of filler IMHO).

Heck yeah that's a lot of filler. I have MD's at the practice I work at that are experts in their subspeciality who have many publications thats CV's are less than 10 pages.

I noticed she stopped smiling REALLY fast once she looked at the jury after she made her joke. I wonder if the jurors weren't impressed. :blushing:

My guess is they are thinking about the fact that Travis can never go back to his job. That was my thought. If she can't afford to be there, why is she there? jmo

I am interested in her history in domestic violence programs. I was almost choked to death by my ex-husb in 1979 and there was really no help/counseling back then. Cops dumped me in some horrible Salvation Army (I think) shelter. That was it. Things were very different back then.
Things were very, very different. We had a "shelter network" which was made up from people who volunteered to take victims into their own homes. It was extremely confidential (and somewhat dangerous) to do this, so the turn over was high. Back then folks were not so concerned with being sued.

Sorry you had to go through that then. I hope things are better for you now. Thanks for being brave enough to say something here.

Actually, an advocate for abused women, Murray-Strauss, did a study to confirm some findings and found that there's actually parity in domestic violence, women initiate as often as men (which is often dismissed by the bogus claim women don't do much damage) and where a weapon is used, women do it more. In other words, in trying to confirm some results he found results that made him anathema.

The dynamic of domestic violence is extremely complex and isn't served by the old tropes of sexual politics.

People talk, and rightly so, about how under-reported rape is, and the need to make it less painful and stigmatized for a woman to come forward.

That being the case, it's not hard to imagine how under-reported men as victims of domestic violence is.

And the problem is worsened by the Violence Against Women Act (what's wrong with the "Violence Against People Act?)but all that assumes men = perpetrator and makes it so that should a man report being a victim of domestic violence, he's basically called himself in a reservation at the jail.

Oh hear hear ....May I suggest; Violence Against Partners?

She sounds like she is going to be the best hope for Jodi, sounds like they have the right person up there for what they want to accomplish.
Her first case in 1984 sounds exactly like what they hope for here.

There would have to be some new, really compelling evidence to make the jurors really believe Jodi was abused at this point, doncha think?

Ok here we go. She was asked by an attorney why a battered woman would kill and stay with an abuser. As if she is qualified to testify about that?? I know she has her opinion, but how could she possible know??

Maybe because she's talked to 1000s of battered women in her "35 years of experience"? Each case is different though, and Jodi wasn't a victim of Travis, and Ms. LaViolette would be foolish to say otherwise.

How many hours do you think Wilmott will keep her on the stand before letting JM take a crack at her? Will Wilmott go all day tomorrow?

I really hope that this witness will 'flip.'

But he will go over their credentials and expertise. It's what is done. So people can stop bashing the DT for this one.
She did not just list her credentials. She went into a personal story (her children) on each one - that is ABOVE and BEYOND credentials.

I was just about to type that. I don't want to hear about battered "women". Men and women are abusive and both can be victims.

Small confession: sitting in the drive-thru @ Cinnabon. Bad traffic and PMS made me pull over to get a sugary dinner and say, "Haha Jodi! You'll never eat one of these again!"
I almost bought a strawberry Frapuccino this morning for the first time *ever* but then I thought that was a bit OTT because I don't like coffee or take dairy!

-JM will have to be careful not to seem aggressive with this witness.
-JM will, I think, be able to tie her general remarks and observations about DV perpetrators back to JA, and about DV victims back to TA.
-I am hopeful this witness cares sufficiently about her important line of work to not undermine it on JA's behalf.
-The murderer can simper timidly behind her fake glasses like a wounded woodland creature as much as she likes but the crime scene photos are out, everyone has seen her handiwork.

On the subject of DV women vs men iniating..

(disclaimer following is all speculative on my part with no real stats or facts JMSO)

I think that women probably start as much as men.. but when they hit/throw something at man 1st then cops show up if the man has pushed/hit/thrown anything back in self defense BAM they are usually arrested NOT the Woman!

IDK I feel it's all FOS that JA can allege all she wants with no substantial proof of anything being remotely true!!

I guess I could say that I was dating Brad Pitt & he called me a Biotch & pushed me down the stairs.. Does that make it true at all?? NO so why should she be able to just say whatever she wants with out pics of injuries, police reports, eye witness, even a text/email of TA apologizing for doing XYZ (usually those men do that say I'm sorry Baby it won't ever happen again) to me this is all insane hearsay!!!
