I agree with so much of your post. For me, her largest 'sin' of sorts is stating that a victim's reaction defines abuse. I think that has the potential to have a ripple effect on intimate partner violence that concerns me greatly.Good morning all! Got to study before the trial, but a quick note on ALV:
I think she has likely been competent evaluating and treating those who have been truly been abused. But, I get the feeling she has never experienced a sociopath such as JA before, and she has finally come to grips with the fact that she got duped--either by JA's ability to manipulate, or by her own failure to connect the dots. That seems clear given the change in her demeanor since she first began testifying.
So, in one respect, I do feel for her if she truly believed JA was abused, given the limited evidence that the DT gave her. On the other hand, it's hard to believe that she didn't have the wherewithal to access the abundance of premeditation evidence that exists, or all of the other collateral evidence that makes it pretty clear that JA is a serial liar and master manipulator. Maybe it's simply a case of accepting a case that was a bit too outside her skill set.
IDK, I guess I am torn. But, if I could prove she lied about "misspeaking" about the pedo computer/analogue pic thing, then I would definitely have to rewrite this post.:twocents:
I cannot believe, knowing what I do, that she doesn't see evidence to support the controlling nature of an abuser within Jodi's actions alone. I am forced to the conclusion she is willingly choosing to ignore it. That said, I very much appreciate Frigga's insight. A DV advocate not being compassionate and comprehensive of the dynamics of abuse itself is wholly at odds with my familiarity.
I personally believe she's likely encountered many psychopaths in her career though. There is a very strong, very well established, link between domestic abuse and psychopathy. However, seeing it in a female when one has seen it only in males previously could account for her not being 'sensitive' to it.
Still, I disagree with her conclusion vehemently - but I also couldn't and wouldn't wish stalking, harassment, threats, intimidation and the subsequent terror and helplessness of anxiety attacks on anyone.
