Even more amazing, he has the evidence ready to no matter which tack the witness takes.

EXACTLY! He keeps a very fast pace and he never flounders for a document or piece of evidence. It's really incredible. And he does it all without a second-chair.

I am not so such there aren't more Axis II Dx (Personality Disorder) for Arias considering all the clinical notes (evidence) and MMPI (7 out 10 clinical Scale > 65). Believe me I have not heard of that in 23 years in practice, internship and/or have the class in Testing and Assessment (yuck).

I have feeling the Dx did not apply to the DT direct testimony and/or managed to get the "other one we all well know" out because of being possibly too prejudicial.

Professional analysis and JMHO / :twocents:

Wow. You lost me again. Could you say tht in laymans terms?

I'm not that old but I feel hardened and bitter by this trial, even witnessing it from afar like I have... Seeing what Travis went through and what his amazing family goes through every day--I feel turned completely inside out by what the cold murderer has done for the past five years and continues to do, what her attorneys are allowed to do, what her "experts" are given the liberty to do. And to hear so many stories from WS'ers here who have been through our own tragedies and travesties, learning this is the norm for our court system, our so called "justice" system... I've felt deflated and wrecked by how cruel this process is.

Too bad I can't induce a fog on cue to alleviate the heaviness of this. Well... I guess in Colorado it's possible...

Me too LotusPrint. :seeya: Sometimes I just have to walk away, even if I miss something.

I wonder if she was raised in the Michigan area. She has very French-like and Cherokee features. :)

DrD was an undergrad at UMass, where she was described as from Texas. She does look attractively "exotic" to plain ole vanilla me.

I think you said something very insightful there, but I don't understand what. Could you dumb it down a little please. TIA

In the Medical Modal for Evaluations or Psychosocial Assessments, Therapists use an Axis format. Though Social Workers use a different format, Goal oriented format.

Axis I: The presiding or current problem
Axis II: personality Disorder
Axis III: General medical Condition (Dr fills this out)
Axis IV: Psychosocial and Environmental Factors contributing to disorder (divorce, death, moving from family home, etc)
Axis V: Social Function, i.e. able function on a daily level

Now, what I was attempting to say (DX is diagnosis by the way. Dx progress note lingo oooooops regress back to them old days)

On Axis II, the therapist/psychologist can have more than one Dx (shorthand) if it is warranted.

However, The Borderline personality Disorder (I don't know acronyms us old foggies didn't use them back "then") may be many. However, the Dx we very very smart Websleuthers know she is (whisper antisocial / psychopath) did not apply in the DT Direct testimony and/or was too prejudicial.

The other possible Dx's just didn't apply because it was not brought into evidence during Defense's Direct Case in Chief.

I hope this makes a bit more sense and less Progress note (ish). I apologize.

Just got back and am viewing again on hln, WHY is Jodi now paying so much attention?

Looks bad...very bad for her. She's got that chin up.

I had the feeling that Jodi pretended to not listen to Dr. D, but was actually hanging on her every word. She certainly has nailed Jodi! I think Jodi had to be impressed that she figured her out. But, once JW started her questions, Jodi could look at her without giving away the fact that she was really into this Dr's opinions.

I'm really impressed with the Dr's assessment.

My very favorite moment of the day!!!! I thought JW was going to keel over backwards. Lol.

Missed this can you elaborate......

I asked AZLaywer this question about sur-rebuttal
this was her ansswer
I don't think anywhere in the country has a sur-rebuttal as a regular phase of trial. However, if something new comes up in rebuttal (which it shouldn't but sometimes does anyway), then a sur-rebuttal will be allowed on the new issue(s).

My mother's got BPD, and it's NOT nothing. It's very real and very debilitating for those who suffer the disorder, as well as those close to them. It's horrific, and I take great offense to your comment. People should really educate themselves about mental illness.

I really don't understand the disorder. But thanks to Dr Demarte today, it's a bit more clear.

Just a random thought on today's events: this may sound odd, but Dr D's testimony gave me a darn giddy feeling. I mean, she seriously pulled the curtain back and exposed Jodi's full true nature... called Jodi out in precise measure. Dr D was impressive...

Wasn't she though?!! :great: My husband was literally glued to the t.v. today and was practically jumping for joy! He kept asking me while I was flitting around the house "ARE YOU WATCHING THIS?" Dr. D is so professional and such a direct contrast to AVL! I thought JW's cross was very weak and just fell flat and so did the hubs. I couldn't believe she asked Dr. D if she could have supervised ALV (because she wouldn't have been born yet or something to that effect). I literally laughed out loud at how lame that was!

Been reading about a lot of anger with JA ignoring this witness and writing things down and just in her own little world. Why is this a problem? Why is it considered rude?

As long as JA is sits quietly and does not disrupt the proceedings (which is all that is required of a defendant in a courtroom) it doesn't matter whether she pays attention or not. The trial can proceed just fine even if she never makes eye contact with anyone! She's not creating a disturbance, she's not talking out loud and so what if she's sitting there writing away and not looking up. That's not an issue and shouldn't be an issue to anyone.

As long as the trial is moving forward that's the most important factor.

Madeleine, I get what people are saying though. I feel JA was trying too hard to ignore testimony, and came off as being an arrogant child who is defiantly ignoring their parent. Really. And if we saw this, the jury did too. That's all.

Hope the jury feels like this. Dr. Was an outstanding witness.

Does anyone know what ALV was called back to court for yesterday/today? What ended up happening with that?

Or...was she just called back so that she could see how a real professional conducts themselves on the stand?

  • #154
thx for your insight. ITA and Juan is amazing to watch in action. Do you know if the dt will get to do surrebuttal with their own witnesses after Juan? I've heard both opinions off the forum and am wondering it anyone knows for sure? Would it be the judge's discretion or automatic or not at all.
tia :)

Closing arguments will come after rebuttal. The defense had their chance. Juan isn't going to open any doors for the defense to have a sur-rebuttal.

:D

The big problem for the defense is that dr Demarte gave a fully battery of psyc testing in a professional and unbiased manner...She also had them computer scored so no numeric errors.....Dr S and ALV drove me bat--- crazy because they were unscientific and overly attached to JA...They sounded like fools!!!! I hope DeMarte can address their unprofessionalism during an answer to JW....... I don't think JW will scare our witness at all---she was A A STAR VB player At UMASS---she don't scare easy!!!

when jw asked dd if she was ever compassionate with people she accessed. dd handled that question very well imo.

whoo boy...jodi pretending she is not listening to this brilliant young doctor rattling off all her degrees....hahaha

her faces are priceless....pretending like she could care less...hahaha, jodi....your attorney is making the prosecutions witness look better and better...she should just quit now.

BBM: I'm going to be intently watching JA's response when the verdict is announced. Anything could happen. What would be *sweet* is if she confirmed the Death Penalty verdict (that will surely come) with a total outburst and rage so furocious it scares the bejeebers out of everyone. That would be soooo "debasing".......:floorlaugh:

I bet you'll see very little, if any, reaction from her. She already knows that LWOP is probably the very 'best' she could hope for in this case. She knows the score. Her team knows the score. This is not a big mystery. She might get the DP and she might not. Either way she'll be in prison the rest of her natural life.

  • #158
I'm still :floorlaugh: court is rolling along Demarte is testifying, the camera pans to the defendant, glasses are just about falling off, as they sit on the very end of her nose. It looked really nutty.

We should get a screen shot to whatever you call it of the evil stare! Seriously!!!!! Who can do do that?

DrD had command of her stuff today too. No lugging a suitcase to the stand and being unable to find anything like RS.

Mods please remove this if inappropriate! I have good intentions behind it :seeya:
I was googling pics of Janeen Demarte to compare to JA and I came across a picture when she was a bit younger and it said athlete profile at UMASS, sooo I clicked the link.. Says she is from Texas! Also gives her birthday, maybe that is why JW asked if she was born yet in 1980.
