In pt. 2 Dr. D says "increased arousal" JA's head shot up so fast, I think she got whiplash!

Ha! I think Jodi is a perfect example of how the 'law of attraction' does jack cr** unless you work your butt off in a positive direction at the same time (and really it's the working not the magical thinking that's helping). For all Jodi's solid determination to 'think positive things .. ' and all the rest of it, she ended up broke, broken up, having murderous thoughts, and now in jail and on a trial where her best hope is to save her life.

How's that working for ya Jodi?

Well said, Mrs. G. And for those who insist it is a real phenomenon, I invite you to explain the millions of people who die every year on this planet from starvation, or for lack of medicine for treatable diseases, or from abject poverty, or are victims of war. Surely you do not expect us to believe that we may attribute their demise to their failure to properly apply the "Law of Attraction." Pure, unadulterated rubbish of the first order.

Does anyone have the time spot when JD is talking about the pedophilia?

  • #324
Starting here Jodi remembers when she 'went to to grab the knife' http://youtu.be/ZaUBxyzt7jQ?t=1h6m10s that's 3 for 3, Jodi has remembered the knife to all the therapists / psychologists, but not on the stand.

Beautiful! I do remember the doctor being asked when these symptoms show up and she said as early as a toddler. So my belief still stands that some people are just born evil. The camera panned over to Jodi's mom and I genuinely felt sorry for her. Thank you for explaining.

I feel sorry for Jodi's Mom, too. She's been there every day. Not a damned thing Mom can do but watch her baby drown herself.

She only has one way to cross. She's done it with every witness. She's too methodical. It's not effective because she loses everyone early on. I don't think she's going to get anywhere trying to take JD down. I don't think it can be done, and even if it could, JW isn't going to be the one to accomplish it.

She is not a good listener. She is already on to her next question before she hears the answer and then she trips up. Juan is the opposite. :twocents:

Hi All, I am an attorney (not yet verified by Websleuths). I watched JW's cross today and I am underwhelmed. I guess the point that JW is trying to make is that Dr. D. is inexperienced... but JW is falling short and the result is that Dr. D. simply is getting more opportunities to expound on her experience and education. Notice that JW seems to be asking questions that allow the witness to talk, rather than "directing" the testimony as Juan does on cross.

Whether you like Juan's style or not, from an attorney's standpoint, he is phenomenal at controlling a witness on cross. Cross-exam is a very tough skill that many attorneys will never perfect in their careers, but Juan does it. He also seems to have a slight or partial photographic memory. His ability to recall dates, specific phrases, specific incidents, previous testimony, etc is incredible and rare.

Thanks Third Coast !!
Great to hear your point of view.
Agree with all ... Spot on with Juan excelling at the art of cross exam. His memory is amazing ... Facts/times/etc just flow from him as he's addressing witnesses.

I'm thinking that JA's mother is at this trial day after day for the most part, because she wants to understand who her daughter is, and what is wrong with her.

Arizona is extremely dry, particularly at this time of year.

The Federal Court building, which was notoriously designed by an out-of-state architect iirc, is like a terrarium/sauna in the Summer months. It's primarily glass and gets so stifling that the highest floor (6th, I think) that it has misters in the hallways -- INDOORS. Arizonans are allowed and encouraged to bring water everywhere.

eta: I actually found an NYT article about it lol

Wow. Same age as Jodi. Hmmm.

Ironic, isn't it? The State couldn't have chosen a better rebuttal witness.

:)

MOO

And with that, have a good night everyone! Looking forward to tomorrow evening already...

I am off to bed here, fellow Sleuthers :) I have to say, the only thing more interesting than this trial is sitting back and watching where we take our interest and conversation.... LOL Nurmi's ruffles ...wait! no, it's his tie..... JW has a gray patch...maybe...could be a bald spot....JA has a pencil in her shoe.....she flipped the bird, or did she.....DD used to mean Dr. Drew or Darling Daughter, now it means Dr. Demarte....JA has a droopy eye.....glasses ON, glasses OFF....
I am amazed at what you all see, pick up on...and some of the comments make me laugh so loud it scares my cat :)
Have a safe and wonderful night. I'll be playing catch up here late tomorrow afternoon. This is one of the few times I wouldn't mind a cancellation.... Not saying I want to have to call out sick or nuthin' :) Nite all :)

I agree. Couldn't you just hear Clever Juan saying to himself, "I know you can't bring it, but go ahead anyway."

LOL

Juan wouldn't put on an "expert" with many big old skeletons for JW to unearth. I feel confident he is well aware of any weakness his expert may have and can effectively counter anything JW brings up - and, do it with few words. I have faith in him and I noted that his objections were rare during this lame attempt by the defense to discredit DD.

IMO - this isn't lost on the jury. They surely respect him for not throwing up smokescreens and objections that serve no purpose but to deflect and waste the court's (especially the jurors') time.

does anyone else worry that this borderline personality disorder assessment might make the jurors go lightly on Arias because of her mental issues?

I wonder what JW will find to attack Dr D on other then her youth and relative inexperience, which I don't think is working out as well as she thought it would. She is very knowledgeable and not at all arrogant or defensive. She knows her stuff and has a lot of confidence in her knowledge.

----------
Hi, I agree with you. Judging from the Defense pros' I think its time some step aside and let the young have a go at it. She is refreshing to watch. :seeya:

Or maybe.....Dr. Drew isn't anymore qualified than Dr. Samuels or ALV. IMO.

Oh my, Curious! Dr. Dr*w is a Psychiatrist which means he not only is an M.D. but also went on to continue after that in the realm of diagnosing/treating mental health.
Just for the record, a Psychiatrist is considered to be the highest level of achievement within the discipline of mental health.

I'm thinking that the jury is probably made up with a bunch of folks just like us and they see right through all of this.

Hope, hope, hope...:please:

I thought for a minute there before the defense finally rested that we'd have to go bust the jurors out!

This witness, Dr. D, is awesome isn't she? It's amusing how throughout her testimony JA is so obviously trying to be even busier than usual. Can't begin to imagine why

what has really been interesting for me to sit back and watch is the overall, unanimous opinion of these people that we all seem to have on here.

And I don't think that people are forming these opinions under mob pressure either. I think with this trial the characters are just so obvious.

Had ALV behaved in the fashion that Dr. JD is, I would have believed every word ALV said.

But the comparison of the two is just night and day.

Comparing Samuels to Dr. JD, is like he got his degree from a coupon in Playboy magazine. It's just unbelievable.

THE BEST part about this testimony today is how JD and Juan went systematically through the diagnostic criteria, item by item and either validated it or not.

Rock solid assessment work non of this, "Are you mad at me Mr. Martinez? I formulated it after FORTY FOUR HOURS of talking with poor JA."

Because that promotes stigma and is not accurate. BPD has been heavily researched and is very serious. She wasn't psychotic

I am learning so much. A lot of sleuthers were saying Jodi has BPD several threads ago and I didn't know what they were talking about. Thanks. :)
