I was a little surprised that defence were not stronger in discrediting the time of the last meal - there really does seem such a huge amount of disagreement about that in the scientific community, that just reciting a list of research papers and citing 'Truscott' seemed a little weak?

O/T...

Just reported on CNN, Mickey Rooney, dead at 93. :(

I heard that earlier. Liz, Mickey, Ava, Judy; all the greats, all gone....

Quick question .
Was there any mention of whether Reggie will give evidence later or why he he didn't present his findings bearing in mind he was at the autopsy ?

I heard the witness Botha reply to Nel that he had been given a copy of RP's report by the DT and Nel saying that the PT did not have one.

You would expect that he would appear since his report has been mentioned.

I was wondering where you were this morning. :)

I'm here, watching from bed :) Too engrossed by the testimony to type on WS at the same time. Good stuff so far!

I think Nel is very smart by taking a break right now with this witness in a shambles; you can bet that the good professor is mad as heck and is telling Roux that this is damaging, and vice versa! Perhaps the professor will come back resolved to save his reputation and just back away from his previous mistaken opinions.

lawd, I think OP is going to make a mess on the stand, I wonder how Roux has prepared him? Its going to be awful is he is sobbing and hurling while sitting up there! We may not be able to make out what he is saying!

They can use that awesome interpreter to help out.

Finally the trial, exciting, I’ve spend forever reading Websleuths this week to keep up with all of you and I’ve written a huge post on the what I think is unlikely from Pistorius version. Seems inappropriate to post it while we are all following along, will post it after the day ends. And then I can edit it from the information what we hear more about now ;)

This expert is having a rough grilling from Nel, I don’t understand what a pathologist is doing talking about ballistics? What is Roux strategy here, doesn’t making sense to put them on the stand, talking about another area of field.

I wish Pistorius would stop crying. It’s like he’s either trying to pull focus to himself because it always has to be about his emotions not what’s being said by experts – or he can’t control his emotions, not a great thing to reveal if the prosecution wants us to see that he’s emotionally unstable enough to get angry and fire at his girlfriend. Possibly would get a better psychologist for him too.

I KT, will look forward to your long post as I like your style.

I too am amazed at Roux's strategy here. Maybe his heart is not in it.

Regarding OP as I wrote earlier, I just have this nagging feeling we are not going to see 3 days of fascinating testimony and x-exam without a serious hiccup that could derail the whole thing. I can't really explain how/why but it just seems too much to expect and the pressure Nel will put him under and the potential for unpredictability is huge.

Apparently, PT doesn't get rebuttal.

But if no rebuttal presumably Nel can at least consult with experts because Mangena is present and he told Judge that he would question DT's expert up untill he could go on his own and then would have to wait to consult with Saymaan.

The sobbing act is getting OLD, Oscar!
Good start by Nel.

Kirk Douglas is still going strong and he survived a helicopter crash in his 70's!

Can OP be tried in absentia or does he have to be there?

I think defence's suggestion that Reeva did not fall on the mag rack didn't come over well - it seemed to be based on the lack of blood inside it? But if Reeva fell on it bottom first, and considering where her wounds were, it doesn't seem there'd be any reason for it to be filled with blood, to me.

Nel got him to admit that he threw RPs report away, he did not consider it when forming his opinions. So whatever is in that report is damning to OP. RP won't be called by the DT.

No doubt.

Botha also said he did not even consult with RP.

None of his findings, in relation to ballistics, sound grounded in science, only him speculating, which is suspect.

They're back......

Why is it that experts seem unable to just say 'I don't know'? That's all a hypothetical is, in other words not proven. It must be worth lots of money to put themselves in a position where they feel their knowledge is uncertain, and in public.
