Absolutely. I think that's exactly what's happening. Someone can hear the same thing and interpret it differently. If someone is distraught and crying and they let out a wail, it can sound like a scream of sorts, especially from far away, I'd imagine. Personally, I don't think it's super important. Just a bit of nit pickery.

The question was did the witness make a statement that said OP was screaming. To which the answer was no. Keeping in mind thats the statement he gave and changing or expanding it now could give an impression he may be tailoring ,not saying he is , just sayin :-)

Judge taking a lot of notes -she even cut in to ask for clarification directly from the witness

I have now gotten used to her accent from listening to it so much. I can understand her now, but the first time I heard her I literally could not understand a word she said

Yes, she obviously is talented, and can speak many of the languages in SA. I'm getting used to her too.

whoa.. she does a demonstation of a scream

NW: I heard somebody saying 'Help, help, help.....it was a very loud sound....it seemed like a lady's voice. I then heard the sound of a male person crying.

Has wife just contradicted what husband heard?

  • #207
OMG - witness just did a demonstration of the loud crying

  • #208
Omg my ears....that was a wail....

Well that made me jump.

N didn't hear woman screaming. N has finished.

Oh no, next woman using an interpreter!!!!!!

Eontle Nhlengethwa wife of last witness. Doesn't know Reeva. Went to bed between 10 and 11.
Roux: Did something wake you up in early hours.
N: Very loud bang.
R: Did you know where it came from
N: No. I woke up, woke hubby. Asked him did you hear anything. Wondering where it was coming from. They left bedroom to check if their house was safe. Returned to bedroom. Whilst outside bedroom heard somebody call help help help. Very loud male person's voice. Not long after help, help heard male person crying.
R: Describe crying.
N: Somebody - sound of person who need urgent help. Very loud sound.
R: Asks for demonstration.
N: She screams (really). Very loud voice of man crying. High-pitched when she first heard it. Couldn't hear what person was saying.

Has she (EN) testified what time this was?

Both these neighbors are very sure they heard a man's voice.

Oscar's defense is that he screamed like a woman.

The crying stopped when a car arrived at Pistorius' house.

Witness wailed in demonstration.

'But it was in the voice of a man. I coudn't hear what that person was saying. That person would cry, stop for a while, then cry again.

Its quite customary in Zulu culture for women to be obedient and respectful towards their husbands..also, this witness seems to be quite demanding of respect at all times, making the police come to him numerous times before being satisfied he was approached in the correct manner. Definitely a Mr No Nonsense lol.

This is so surreal to me. I have no words.:eek:

Unless the second set were what woke him and his wife.

It seems the only logical explanation, much like other witnesses. What's throwing me is them hearing the 'help help help.' Unless OP called for help after the second set, as well.

Roux: Were your house lights on?

NW: The bedroom lights were off.

She just sat on the bed scared stiff as her husband called security. Didn't look out of the window.

N says her husband called security officers. He was peeping out of the window. He told her he could see security patrol car.

Oscar's defense is that he screamed like a woman.

More like, his defense is what the other neighbors interpreted as a woman screaming was actually him screaming/crying because Reeva was dead by then. That's a bit different.

That was my take too...I feel kinda sorry for SAPS to be honest. They were just trying to investigate a woman's death, do their actual job, and they're being called rude in front of an international audience for not sending the guy a hand-engraved invitation to a formal interview?!?

She is just describing the same thing as her husband now, seeing the cars drive to OP's and 'as the cars passed us, the sounds (of crying) stopped.'
