I was thinking about this case during my current bout of insomnia and I was thinking about all the women that will be writing to him and putting money on his books. TLM has a temper on her and her buttons are easily pushed. The odds of her doing fifteen or twenty five years without additional assault charges I think is highly unlikely.

For as much planning as he supposedly put into this they left a HUGE evidence trail, but if TLM hadn't caved as soon as they locked her up they probably never would have found her and the evidence they were able to gather would have slowly dissappeared. This easily could have been one of those cases that you KNOW they did it but you can't prove it.

Sadly KMouse... you may be right about the women. Though I'm not completely convinced that the one girl - CS - I think were her initials... were telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth ... LOL... I think she might have been covering her a$$ ... errrrr .... bank deposits.... but, I think it was more likely she was selling drugs with MR - than she was selling her other a$$ets so to speak....

As for TLM.... why on earth would she want to get out of jail ??? I mean think about it ???

Hmmm not sure about CS. I think I would rather be known as a drug dealer than a prostitute....MOO! Then again, who knows.

I never really thought of it. That is a very good question. Why is she not charged with kidnapping too?

They most likely dropped the Kidnapping charge because she was pleading guilty to 1st degree Murder which has an automatic life sentence. You can only get sentenced to one life sentence. Even if she was found guilty of other related charges they would all be served as one life sentence. She agreed to plead guilty. In the case of MR theer are multiple charges... because he plead not guilty and therefore none have been dropped. JMO

Steven D'Souza ‏ @cbcsteve
Derstine was asked if he's worried about 9 women on jury, he said, for what its worth, that statistically women acquit more than men

I would have to try to find it online but I saw Derstine being asked that question on CP24 today and I thought his answer was "for what its worth, that statistically women are more likely to aquit men".

About the double time issue while in jail....this is what I know.

For First Degree Murder - double time is NEVER given. Only 2nd degree, manslaughter, etc. will they give 2 years for every one spent in jail before conviction).

In the case I was involved in, the accused spent 4 years in prison (due to him stalling, getting new lawyers etc.). He ended up getting charged with manslaughter....he got a total of 10 years. He was out in 2 after the trial (because of the 4 X2 before conviction).

Hope that makes sense!

p.s. This was back in 2008, so not sure if rules have changed regarding 2 for 1.

Yeah, but doesn't she have a bunch of kids? Drug trafficking could land her butt in jail and cause her to lose her kids.

oh men, I hope he is wrong.
MOO this case is about a murdered child and women are more likely to answer the verdict question supported with motherly feelings. so I hope.

Drug dealing is illegal, while "escorting" is not.

Prostitution....not sure if it is illegal now - I know they are trying to legalize it (but I am not really following it because I am not really interested LOL).

The site is so slow today..... As far as CS, I think her testimony put the final nail in his coffin, whether she is/was a prostitute or drug dealer, IMO she knew exactly why MR wanted Tori and knew what she had to do because she has four kids of her own. I commend her for doing the right thing.

Yeah, but doesn't she have a bunch of kids?
As a Mother, I would be VERY ashamed to be known as either of those things but if I had to pick one it would be escort rather than drug dealer, because:
Escort=legal
Drug Dealing=illegal

I believe it's illegal to solicit sex, but not illegal to pay/be paid for sex. Brothels are legal as far as I know.

I would think so too. Men would tend to be more technical and relate to being "duped" JMO!!

Sometimes I wonder........things that make you go hmmmm.....

p.s. not sure why I would say men can relate to being duped, just the first thing that came to mind ?!?!? (you dont normally hear of women being "duped" - it is not the word that is usually used) My opinion only of course!

You are right, there was something in the news recently about legalizing prostitution in Ontario. I think some aspects of it are legal and others not...I didn't read too much on it either.

Can you be charged with a 'crime' you admit to while testifying in court on another case? i.e. if CS had said she deals drugs while testifying at this trial can she be charged with that? Seems to me that drug dealers don't get charged with anything ever...but I'm sure it just appears that way to me....JMO!!

If Heeney concludes his charge to the jury this afternoon, is the jury sequestered immediately or would they go home after court today?

Mike Knoll: - they would be sequestered immediately.

Are Tori's parents and other family members in court today? I know Rodney has not been for a couple days.

Mike Knoll: - Rodney left before noon; Tara is there.

I agree. I choose neither.

Mike Knoll: Rafferty's lawyer Dirk Derstine addressed the media today. We are uploading his comments currently. I'll add a link to this feed where they are ready for viewing.

when should i attend the courthouse to hear verdict?

Mike Knoll: - it is impossible to determine when 12 people will reach a unanimous decision on 3 charges. When we are informed that they have reached a verdict we will do our best to get the info out.

RaffertyLFP: Court ready to resume waiting for jury

The jury is back.
