Not sure about video snoofer

they did have a slide show going on and below from an earlier tweet

Earlier we heard a voice call and a data call on Rafferty's phone bounced off two different towers minutes apart, in Mount Forest and Arthur

Perhaps this afternoon

RaffertyLFP: Court is resuming Jury still out so no more tweets till they come back

RaffertyLFP: Trial resumes with more testimony from Mustafa Bahktyar

Avery Moore ‏ @AveryFreeFMNews
Jury is back in court room. Mustafa Bakhtyar from Bell Canada is still on the stand. Continue testimony on cell coverage areas. #Rafferty

AM980_Court Bakhytar investigated how each tower in the areas mentioned was working on April 8th, 2009.

RaffertyLFP: Bahktyar did analysis how the Bell Mobility network was functioning in Woodstock Guelph area on April 8,2009

AM980_Court Derstine says between 4:18 and 7:03, Rafferty's phone was on. Broad agrees.

So if I'm getting this right, the phone was only shut off until 4:18, is that when they were at BA's house? MR could have put the battery back in then and TLM would not have known. I think data call must mean connected to the internet???

I'm not caught up yet but I am understanding this to mean the phone was off from 12:something to to 4:something.

I wonder if he turned it back on to call BA and let her know he was on his way? Then he didn't turn it off again.

The long periods of data calls are interesting. I know my phone will sometimes try to log into the internet itself - but I don't have a data package, so it can't. And I do believe this is a glitch with my phone.

Interesting.....

AM980_Court He says the network functionality was satisfactory. Now explaining how that is tested.

RaffertyLFP: The analysis shows the cell network towers north of Guelph were sending out strong signals says Bahktyar

Thanks for all your help HK. Don't have a BB so some of it is confusing. Although as far as data usage I suppose it's pretty similar to the IPhone?

If you've got your FB set up for automatic email alert every time a friend posts to their or your wall would that use data?

And do you have to have your BBM on and running to get messages on there? Or do you get an alert and turn the app on to get the message? And then you turn it off again after you're done?

TIA

#1 Correct
#2 I had mine BBM running all the time because it uses minuscule amounts of data. On my phone, I got a little red alert icon on the BBM icon in my menu that I had a message.

There is no difference in data usage between Iphones and BB's or any other smartphones. The only difference between Iphones, other smartphones, and BB's is the email delivery. Also Blackberry data and whatnot is routed through a central server which is very unusual. No other cell phone companies does that. it apparently makes data more secure and very difficult to hack someone's phone.

Bakhtyar says that on Apr. 8/09 there were no issues or outages that would have affected Bell towers #sl

Court resumes with testimony from Mustafa Bakhtyar from Bell talking about the strength and reliability of Bell's cell network #sl

Avery Moore ‏ @AveryFreeFMNews
Bakhtyar says on April 8th, 2009 all Bell towers in the area should have been working well, no problems or outages. #Rafferty

RaffertyLFP: Bahktyar asked if two calls made almost the same time in the Mount Forest Fergus areas could be relayed by different towers

RaffertyLFP: Bahktyar said it is possible but cannot no give definitive answer because there are too many variables

hope part of "their plan" was not sending out photos or video!JMO

They could have been sending out a photo. Now that uses data. And depending how many pixels the photo was, it could have been a long transmission.

AM980_Court Carnegie asks if having a call at 7:46 bouncing off of a Fergus tower, and a voice call hitting off a Mount Forest tower at 7:47 is possible

AM980_Court Bakhytar says it would be Arthur, but is possible. But there are variables, and he doesn't know for sure if the phone was in Mount Forest

You don't use data when you make a call. You only use data when you use the internet, in the base of Blackberry then you would use data to use Blackberry messenger, you also use data when you send pictures, and when you use Messenger programs like MSN, anything that uses the internet to communicate uses data (not calls) Oh and GPS also uses data, because GPS presents its data in a web page format.

So the long data use time could be because his GPS was on? Interesting.

So glad you are here to help with explanations! :yourock:

RaffertyLFP: Derstine begins cross. He asks if we should be careful about pinning down the location where a cellphone call was made. Bahktyar agrees

RaffertyLFP: Derstine suggests it is difficult to pin down an exact location because of all the variables Bahktyar agrees

AM980_Court No more questions for Bakhytar from Carnegie. Now Derstine cross examines him.

AM980_Court Derstine suggests this is a 'good illustration' of why we can't determine exactly where a person is based on cell phone use. He agrees.

AM980_Court Derstine asks about static factors Bell techs have to build towers around. There are also unpredictable factors.

The other variables don't show up on Bell's data.

Avery Moore ‏ @AveryFreeFMNews #Rafferty's lawyer suggests the different towers hit during the same few minutes is an ex. of towers as unreliable sources of location.

ETA: He is grasping, IMO. It is generally known, IMO, that you can stand in the exact same spot, and a call be routed through 2 different towers. This is very common.

Hopefully the Crown will re-direct on this issue.

RaffertyLFP: Bahktyar said it is difficult to determine why a cell signal bounced off particular tower and not another

Derstine says if you start talking Windsor and drive to Kitchener, it shows a 2 hour call in Windsor. Bakhytar says it MAY change.

But in a Woodstock to Guelph example, it would not change.
