Drive was too short for Ross to be cued that Cooper was in the car.

  • #284
Email from Little Aprons (daycare) never mentioned Cooper was absent.

Opening statement finished. Is this all for today?

  • #286
Hmm. I am really interested to hear what the ex wife has to say

Hours before Harris murdered Cooper because he wanted to be child free, he's looking into children's passports for a family cruise? Hmm. Right.

But people on the way to commit suicide sometimes gas up their cars or stop at the grocery store.

Sometimes people have the urge to do something, but fight it, live their life normally, the 'give in' to the urge.

That is hard for me to believe because that car seat was inches away from the front seat.

I'm going to take a break and miss the first witness. The opening statement from the defense really wore me out, going to jump on treadmill. Hoping some of you post any interesting bits coming up.

edit to add.. I can't even imagine how the Jury feels..

"There was nothing to specifically challenge his memory," says defense about why #RossHarris did not remember Cooper in the car.

Claire Simms ‏@Claire_FOX5 11m11 minutes ago Georgia, USA
Defense: #RossHarris's ex-wife, Leanna, will testify in the trial that "Ross Harris loved that little boy more than anything in the world."

Claire Simms ‏@Claire_FOX5 9m9 minutes ago Georgia, USA
"They got it wrong," #RossHarris's defense attorney concludes his opening statements. @HarrisTrialFOX5 @FOX5Atlanta

So basically this is what I got from opening statements:

"Ross is innocent because Ross says he's innocent and that's that."

"There's an app where you can post anonymous things, and if it makes Ross anonymous, then Ross must not have posted it."

"Ross has filthy stuff on his phone, but hey boys will be boys."

His theatrics and manipulation won't work on me. Not once did he mention how terribly that Cooper suffered and not once did he mention that Cooper was put into a car seat too small for him, and not once did he address that JH would have to look back over Cooper to back into his parking spot.

Once again, it's allllllll about JH, JH's feelings, JH's reputation and to hell with the kid.

I'm so disgusted I can't even.

Sometimes. But also, sometimes the evidence left out provides a much different impression when included. Such as the passport messaging that early AM, and such as Harris calling his son "amazing" that same morning, and such as the fact he never in fact even clicked on actual "child free" related posts when he was on that sub Reddit, and most especially, it sure doesn't help the State's case whatsoever that the defense can literally visually demonstrate Stoddard lied. Repeatedly. About key things.

Email from Little Aprons (daycare) never mentioned Cooper was absent.

And yet, somehow that wasn't enough to "challenge his memory" that he didn't drop Cooper off at day care.

IMO, the DT had the more powerful opening statement. I have been saying for a couple weeks that Detective Stoddard's credibility is going to a be a major key to this trial. I have to admit that I am greatly disheartened by what I heard, but I am not surprised. Every person, including JRH, is entitled to a fair trial where witnesses don't lie under oath or in sworn affidavits. I am really bothered by the fact that the lead detective in this case repeatedly made misstatements under oath. However, it has not changed my opinion on Ross's guilt. By Ross's own admission, he left Cooper in the car. The undisputed facts also show that JRH was practically attached to his phone, even when we was supposed to be watching Cooper. His level of distraction meets the bar for criminal negligence in Georgia IMO.

Defense says there is "overwhelming" evidence that #RossHarris was planning for the future with Cooper in it. @FOX5Atlanta

#RossHarris lawyer: Defendant planning for future w/ son. Loving father. No history of abuse. Searched for cruises where kids got on free.

Sometimes. But also, sometimes the evidence left out provides a much different impression when included. I'm at work and can't have the volume up where I really want it to be to catch everything being said, but could it be that he wasn't looking for a "child free" life, but was looking for trips where "children traveled for free" If so, that negates the "child-free lifestyle" narrative - see two bolded quotes above.
