*Jury Selection set to begin with Motions Hearing (for Janet’s case) (@ 9am PT) - CA – Janet Ann Taylor (21) (March 24, 1974, from La Honda; found March 25, 1974 in Stanford, Palo Alto) - *John Arthur Getreu (29 @ time of crime/74/now 75) charged (5/10/19) with 1 count of felony murder, enhanced GBI/torture, enhanced serious felony & enhanced special allegation prior acts. Plead not guilty. $10M bond.

10/7/20 Update: Hearing was held. Present Judge Robert Foiles & attorney John Halley, defendant not present in hospital. Trial has been continued & next further proceedings hearing to set new trial date on 11/2/20. 11/2/20 Update: Present Judge Robert Foiles, Defendant & his attorney John Halley. Defendant waives his right to be personally present, pursuant to Emergency Rule 3. Parties appeared by audio and/or video. Grace Kahng from Santoki Productions re: Media request. Monday, Dec. 14, 2020:
*Sentencing Hearing (@ 9am PT) – AZ – Rainer Canku-Folwell (4 wks.) (Oct. 24, 2018, Chandler; reported abducted, found dead in mom’s apt.) – *Jenna M. Folwell (19/now 21) arrested & charged (10/24/18), indicted (11/1/18) & arraigned (11/8/19) with 1st degree premeditated murder, intentional child abuse & false reporting to LE. Plead not guilty. $1M cash only bond.
Admitted drowning her son so she wouldn’t have to listen to him crying; searched internet for quick ways to kill a baby.
Trial was set to begin on 1/28/21-plea deal: plead guilty to 2nd degree murder & other charges dismissed with sentencing on 12/14/20.

11/4/20 Update: Settlement conference hearing rescheduled to 11/12/20. Trial continuance-granted. Pretrial conference hearing on 11/23, Complex/Capital case hearing on 1/11/21 & trial to begin on 1/28/21.
11/12/20 Update: Settlement has been agreed upon. Plead guilty to reduced charge of 2nd degree murder & due to plea deal false report to law enforcement & child abuse-intent charges are dismissed. According to Folwell’s plea agreement, the defendant has agreed to serve at least 14 years in the prison. The aggravated maximum prison sentence for 2nd degree murder is 25 years. As part of the plea deal, prosecutors dismissed other criminal charges, including child abuse & false reporting to law enforcement. Next pretrial hearing on 11/23/20 maybe & sentencing on 12/14/20.
11/23/20 Update: No pretrial conference – cancelled due to guilty plea. Next sentencing hearing on 12/14/20. 12/14/20 Update: State’s Motion & Order to Dismiss. 12/15/20: Defense’s response to Motion to Dismiss.
1/6/21 Update: Folwell jumped from a building & took her own life on 12/13/20. Prosecutors have asked Judge Gates to dismiss her criminal charges “without prejudice,” a legal term that leaves the door open for the state to refile charges against the same defendant. Folwell’s attorneys objected to the prosecution’s request, asking the judge to dismiss the case “with prejudice” because it is impossible for Folwell to be charged again. “The finality of her case is evident,” Folwell’s attorney stated. “Justice requires that the dismissal be with prejudice.” Gates has not issued a ruling.

Monday, January 11, 2021:
*Sentencing Hearing (re Nicole’s case) (@ am CT) – IN – Nicole Lynn Bowen (30) (missing March, 29, 2019, Jefferson Township, Newton County, found March 30, 2019) - for *Garrett Kenneth Kirts (21/now 22) arrested (4/1/19) & charged (3/28/19) with murder, resisting LE & criminal recklessness. Plead not guilty. Held without bond. DA will seek life without parole.
Trial was set to begin on 9/28/20 was vacated. Kirts plead guilty on 9/4/20, sentencing on 1/11/21.
4/2/19: Warrant or Writ of Attachment for the Body of a Person Issued. Possible plea deal with a 45 year sentence. Trial set on 7/13/20. 6/29/20 Update: Motion for trial continuance-granted. Trial will now begin on 9/28/20.
9/4/20 Update: Kirts admitted Friday (9/4/20) to a judge that he & two others conspired to kill the West Lafayette mother of two because they were sure she was going to turn them in for cooking methamphetamine. On Friday, Kirts plead guilty to murder in a deal that essentially took the chance of life without parole off the table. Newton Superior Judge Daniel Molter set a sentencing date on Jan. 11, 2021. But Jeff Drinski, Newton County prosecutor, said the terms of the plea deal call for 55 years in prison. The murder charge, had the case gone to trial, could have carried up to 65 years in prison. Drinski had filed for life without parole in the case, saying there were elements of torture in Bowen death.
*Charged (1/20/19) with strangulation & domestic battery.

*Charged (2/21/19) with 2 counts of invasion of privacy. Violates an order issued under I.C. 35-33-8-3.2. No plea entered.

*Charged (2/20/19) with theft where value of property is between $750 to $50K. Tippercanoe County
4/1/19 Update: Initial hearing on 4/1/19 & issued arrest warrant. 3/7/19: Probable cause found to head for trial. No update as of 8/16/20.
*Charged (4/5/19) Charged Assisting a criminal (same as 3901), but the criminal assisted committed murder (F5).
This case ^^ was resolved-Dismissed without prejudice.
IN – Charles Ray Hanish (49) (March 17, 2019 found in his home, Reynolds) – suspect Garrett Kirts (21). White County
White County Prosecutor Bob Guy confirmed that he’s waiting for Kirts’ trial to wrap up in Newton County before filing any charges connected to Ray Hanish’s death in Reynolds. He declined to give many details, other than to say witnesses tied to the Newton County death of Nicole Bowen have cooperated in the White County investigation too. Alleged cause of death asphyxiation.
*Ashley N. Garth (26) – 6/18/20: Plead guilty, sentencing was set for 10/21/20. Plea deal withdrawn. Next pretrial hearing on 1/27/21.
*Christopher Channing Mathis (27) – 9/18/20: Plead guilty & sentenced to time served (912 days). Out of jail. Cooperating with White County on Hanish case. Conspiracy dealing drugs charge: Pretrial conference hearing on 1/15/21.
*Talitha Ann Beckley (36/now 38) – Pretrial conference hearing on 2/8/21.
*Jasmine Nicole Parker (34/now 36) – 10/8/19: Plead guilty. According to the plea agreement, Parker also will serve four years in prison for being a habitual offender, based on felony convictions in 2018 for unlawful possession of a syringe in Jasper County and in 2004 for burglary in Tippecanoe County. Earliest release date 1/4/23.

*Trial set to begin (@ 10am UK) – UK – Liberty “Libby” Anna Squire (21) (last seen Jan. 31, 2019 outside Welly Club in Hull; found Mar. 20, 2019 from Grimsby Docks in the Humber Estuary) - *Pawel Relowicz (24/now 25) arrested (2/6/19 on suspicion of abduction) officially charged (10/30/19) with murder & rape. No plea entered yet.
Trial set to begin on 1/11/21. Trial will be in Sheffield. Richard Wright QC will lead, Mr. Woolfall prosecutor. Oliver Saxby QC for defense. Trial expected to last 6 weeks.
Was originally charged (3/18/19 & 5/10/19) with 5 counts of burglary, 4 counts of voyeurism, 3 counts of outraging public decency & 1 count of receiving stolen goods. On 8/12/19 plead guilty to 9 charges including voyeurism (4 counts), outraging public decency (2 counts) & burglary (3 counts). Relowicz jailed for eight & a half years.

*Trial set to begin (@ 8am CT) – TX – Bryson Edwards (3) (Jan. 12, 2019, Dallas, stabbed by father; mom injured, fled apt with 7 year old girl) - *Brandon Demone Edwards (35/now 37) arrested (1/12/19), indicted & arraigned (1/28/19) on capital murder of a person under 10 yrs old & aggravated assault with a weapon. Plead not guilty. $1M bond (murder) $750K bond (assault). Out on bond.
Trial was to begin on 10/5/20 was rescheduled to 1/11/21.
1/28/19 Arraignment hearing. Plead not guilty. Bond hearing set for 3/14. 1/28/19 Update: Bond hearing set for 3/14 moved to 3/27. 3/27/19 Update: Bond hearing moved to 4/16. Out on bond.

Plead not guilty. $500K bond.
Godfrey says 3/2/19 is the last time she saw Noah. 11 yr. old daughter in CPS custody.
Godfrey plead guilty (12/19/19) & was released from custody (10/15/20) on own recognizance.

*Francisco Javier Valdivia (37/now 40) (estranged husband) arrested (12/13/16), charged & arraigned (12/14/18) with 1 felony count of murder & arson, 2 counts of possession marijuana for sale, 2 counts of cultivating marijuana & storing of it, 2 counts of conspiracy to commit a crime & 1 count theft of utilities service over $400. Plead not guilty. No bond.

Jan. 15th Friday, Update: The trial has been postponed for a second day due to weather conditions in South Yorkshire. Snow is making it difficult for jurors to reach the court. Continues on Monday, 1/18/21.

(July 17, 2018, Natchitoches; died July 18, 2018; kidnapped & burned to death) – for *Felicia Marie-Nicole Smith (25/now 27) arrested & charged (7/21/18), indicted (8/30/18) & arraigned (1/24/19) with 1 count of 1st degree murder & charged (1/24/19) with criminal conspiracy. Trial set to begin on 1/19/21.
*Hanna Nicole Barker (22/now 23) “mom”- Trial was set to begin in Oct. 16, 2020. No update as of 11/15/20.

*Trial set to begin (@ 9am ET) – OH – Baby Boy Doe (2 mos. or younger) (found May 11, 2017 decomposing in a 1988 Ford Mustang, South Toledo) & Giovanna Gabrielle Cisneros (was Baby Jane Doe) (infant) (found Feb. 10, 2020 decomposing in PT Cruiser which had been towed to police lot) – only for *Jacob Andrew Cisneros (33) arrested & charged (2/3/20) & arraigned (2/4/20) with involuntary 1st degree manslaughter & endangering children. Those charges were dismissed (on 2/13/20) , indicted (2/13/20), Charged & arraigned (2/19/20) with 2 counts of 1st degree involuntary manslaughter, 2 counts of 3rd degree endangering children, 2 counts of 3rd degree tampering with evidence & 2 counts of 3rd degree obstruction of justice. Plead not guilty. $400K bond. Bond changed (2/19/20) to $1,225,000.

7/30/20 Update: On Thursday, Mr. Cisneros appeared before Judge Linda Jennings by video connection and was released from the Lucas County jail on electronic monitoring. Prosecutors said the move was necessary to ensure charges against the defendant were not dropped. Jacob was released from jail Thursday due to speedy trial issues amid the coronavirus pandemic. Jacob was scheduled for trial Aug. 11, but that date fell outside of modified speedy trial requirements put into place by state lawmakers. A new trial date for Mr. Cisneros has been set for Sept. 15.

12/16/20 Update: Spurgeon plead guilty Wednesday, 12/16/20 to unlawful disposal of a body. He admitted to Chula Vista Superior Court Judge Garry Haehnle he was aware there was a body in a 55-gallon barrel before it was pushed into the bay in October 2017. The court is partially closed so the attorneys appeared remotely on a video feed. Spurgeon was seen on a screen from a room at the George Bailey Detention Facility where he has been housed since April 4, 2018. Spurgeon also plead guilty to unlawful possession of a controlled substance as well as robbery of an acquaintance in June, 2017 in which the man was injured & had all of his possessions stolen near Lemon Grove. Spurgeon will receive a total sentence of 10 years & 8 months in prison in all three cases, said Somerville. Sentencing was set for Jan. 21, 2021. Case #s SC297178, SC297724, SCD276248 & SC306153.
*Timothy John Cook (52) – 12/5/19: Found guilty of 2nd degree murder. 1/6/20: Sentenced to 56 years in prison.

3/13/20 Friday Day 14: Just over a day of deliberations, the jury panel acquitted Sullivan of a first-degree murder charge, but convicted him of second-degree murder, plus an allegation of using a knife in the killing. Sentencing is scheduled for April 13.
