When I read that the little boy was crying a lot, it reminded me of something my own mother told me. My parents had me late in life, 39 and 40, and I was tiny, 5 pounds. I also had colic, and cried constantly. My parents took turns holding me and walking
around the house, trying to calm me. I am so thankful that they both were patient and understanding of the situation. I'm not saying this little tot had colic, but he deserved a full life, as we all do JMO MOO

Doesn't colic usually resolve in infancy - like by age 3 months?

There seems to be a pretty close match between the amount of time the dad presumably was out getting pizza (45 minutes or so) and the length of time Jaxton was heard crying (around an hour). He may have started crying because his dad left him and continued to cry until ... he wasn't able to any longer. Heartwrenching to think about.

Omg you’re right! That timeline does add up. Colic and purple crying are shortlived but “my daddy left” crying can go for ages

Half of self care for parents is walking away when the baby is screaming or you’re frustrated. Put them somewhere safe and walk away. How can you do that in a dorm? What do you do when you are overwhelmed. I was a teen mom and I had to do it, imagine it’s not even your child and you’ve handled children roughly and improperly in the past (imo upthread video). I’m not justifying it, but I can see how the events could play out that way. You’re just not equipped.
Imo

Yes, colic wouldn't be an issue with an 18 month old. I agree with you that he was likely crying because he'd been left alone with TP in a dorm, certainly not a baby-friendly environment. If the crying went on for an hour and TP was growing frustrated with him, perhaps she just... snapped. It's all so sad.

The baby probably did cry when his dad left. What concerns me is most kids will stop crying once you are out of sight. The dad and TP has been together around a year, you would think the baby would at least be familiar with her.

Completely right!! Now that I’m thinking about it, even daycare kids I’ve had take like a week or 2 at most before they can calm down after mom and dad leave, and regulate quickly. And that’s new strangers, new environment, no parent. That is really alarming, and imo telling.

Yes, I stay at home with mine. When I leave them they may get upset. Within minutes they are fine. Makes me wonder if she has done stuff to him in the past.

Totally! There was a case of a babysitter that abused a little girl to death, of course the name escapes me, but she told her dad the babysitter hurt and scared her and she didn’t want to go as best as a 3 year old could and ultimately she lost her life to her horrible babysitter who took her life struggles out on her.
PSA: If your kid is terrified of the babysitter and cries every day when being dropped off. There is a reason. Show up unannounced, catch them in the act.
There is no way that this baby was unharmed before this. It is almost never a massive head injury alone either. There’s bruises and bumps.

All of this to say: JD/Romeo was likely scared of Trinity for good reason.

Also, everyone give your babies hugs if you have them. Also your dogs and cats. Lots of remorseless angry people in the world.

This is why I stay home. My husband showed up at daycare to get our oldest before he was a year old. He was crying and the teacher was sitting on her phone when he walked in. Our baby's leg was stuck and he had a bruise the next day. Not many people I trust with my babies!

[bbm] Well yes, exactly. Most kids would be comforted or distracted or otherwise cared for in a way to help them with separation anxiety. And most kids get to live long enough to outgrow it.

Not even surprised! That’s why it’s so sad when people trust a friend or family member to watch their kids over a stranger in a center or home, educated or not. You can’t teach attentiveness, self control, gentleness and respect, though.

Statistically, a boyfriend or girlfriend/spouse that is unrelated to the child is more likely to commit child abuse than a biological parent, which feels like it makes sense. (I can try to find the source if mod wants that)
I think those are domestic situations where they’re together almost always, but it easily could apply in situations where they’re just visiting often imo

Aggravated battery, felony murder and importantly: cruelty to children first degree. <moo> she's the only one who needs to answer questions.

MOO, full autopsy results need to come back before we know who needs to answer what questions. Presumably, she attended classes for part of most days. She can't be this child's only care taker.

True, there have been a few articles that make it seek like more was going on.

But, don't the charges against her show it was intentional and she did it knowlingly because I think those are the legal standards. The coroner stated there may have been previous and new injuries so he ordered an autopsy that's surely already performed. Not sure when his little memorial and burial will be.

GSW students said they heard something unusual on the day of the infant’s death in their dorms.

“That kid was crying for a long time until everyone said that suddenly it just stopped. And no one knew what happened,” said Lilly Waterman, a GSW student.

She was just doors away from Poague’s room when she heard baby Dru crying for what she said was well over an hour.

Why didn't the reporter ask what time they heard the crying? Drives me nuts! Was it before or after Dad left?

Maybe the crying stopped when the baby was made unconscious which would mean the baby cried while his father was in the dorm with him. Right? IDK

"She [Lilly] was just doors away from Poague’s room when she heard baby Dru crying for what she said was well over an hour. Poague was a freshman at GSW. Waterman said Poague was dating Dru’s father at the time."

If there were previous and new injuries, possibly indicating ongoing child abuse, I feel like more than one person may have been involved.

Did the toddler’s other family and caregivers not notice his injuries?! So heartbreaking! Who was looking out for this little guy?

Dad was going for food. Some of it could Dru hungry crying. Or any of the many reasons why toddlers' cry. It's the part about it suddenly stopping that gets me.

The timing, {had the question been asked} - would indicate if JD was crying after Dad left. Did she not make any attempt to comfort or distract him? Stuck him in a crib or playpen and ignored him?

A scenerio is developing in my head after hearing this information, in which she became frustrated he wouldn't stop crying. That's when the blunt force trauma happened and he became silent :(
