Right now the best TV coverage I have is on The Weather Channel and it's about Hawaii. The Weather Channel has all the connections with the NOAA facilities where the Pacific earthquake and tsunami experts are located. This is a critical monitoring and evaluation center for all countries that rim the Pacific.

All is quiet in WA. Except for a couple of new memes on WA Facebook (Costco members stacking up on tissues and toilet paper in anticipation of the tsunami wave).

Oh, Hilo Bay has a history of huge damaging tsunami's. In 1946 a quake in the Alaskan Aleutian Islands cause a tsunami in Hilo that killed at least 500 people.

Then, in 1960, a huge earthquake in Chile resulted in a tsunami that killed 159 people.

It’s hard to find info, but this seems to indicate no casualties and little damage. But I’m not sure how accurate it is.

No one does. One fact to confirm that nothing bad has happened so far, though. The local government asked the Kamchadals (the inhabitants of Kamchatka) not to stay on the shore waiting for the tsunami waves. Big destructions would make people busy and such warnings would not be needed, methinks. So I assume the locals have enough time on their hands. However, everyone is afraid of the aftershocks which will likely follow.

SF Bay was upgraded from Tsunami Advisory to a Tsunami Watch earlier. Crescent City has Tsunami Warning. Waves up to 4,8 feet.

This is from AlJazeera:

Tsunami wave over 3 metres hit Russian Pacific town: Report

Tsunami waves that crashed into the Russian Pacific town of Severo-Kurilsk exceeded three metres (9.8ft) in height, and the most powerful was as big as five metres (16.4ft), Russia’s Ria Novosti news agency reports, citing emergency services.

According to the news agency, the town’s port area and a fish factory were flooded by four tsunami waves that followed after the magnitude 8.8 earthquake that hit earlier today of Russian far east coast.

A state of emergency has been declared in the area, the agency added.

I'm an hour inland, and we received a county-wide Tsunami alert on our phones. It's expected to hit the West Coast around 12:30am PST.
I’m on a cruise ship off the west coast and our phones blew up with tsunami warnings. One of my friends received over a dozen alerts on his phone. Mine didn’t receive that many.

Definitely everyone on this ship was talking about it.

Have you felt any waves on the ship? Stay safe.

Are you out in deeper water? How stressful! Hoping for the best for you!

Oh man I lived in East Oakland for 10 years before making my way to Hawaii. The town will always be home to me even tho I hail from NYC. I hope you are safe! I think you said upthread that you are in the East Bay. Update when you can :)

I grew up in Alameda and my Mom moved to East Oakland after I graduated from high school. DH is from Berkeley. Good memories! 😊

I think the tsunami is moving slower than expected. There’s no word that it’s hit WA or OR yet. Behind schedule.

ETA: And it’s late to Crescent City, which could get the worst of it.

I live on Hawai'i Island. We had planes flying over with speakers announcing tsunami warning, All low lying areas to evacuate. Boats evacuated from the Harbors out to deeper water. Both Kauai and Oahu has had water receding.
Be safe, Jackalina!!!
