IMO photography was not the primary motivator in SS's interest in photography. We have no evidence to support that she toured NY on her own to photograph. It was always with a group doing a specific walk. I suggest SS was more interested in the social aspect of her new found interest and the social media of IG.

I think, based on her media exchange with the men prompted by IG, SS thought she could go to Istanbul and recreate her NY experience with social gatherings. When she got there she found out the people she had been in contact with were much different than she anticipated, and maybe fell into a bad situation.

I just don't see her wandering off by herself on a photo taking walk.

I feel somewhat the same.

Thank you SophieRose at post #1679

The purple circle shows the "cave" (it's really a walled arch) where her body was found.

If you look at the street view, the sidewalk in front of it has some white chalky writing on it. I can't tell what it refers to. The graffitti is visible, but in the shade of the trees.

Can you tell where 100m ends up north and south of that circle? I don't have a great idea of the scale of the photograph.

That is absolutely what I was thinking too but did not find the perfect words...I also think that out of naivete and lack of travel experience, or even just a determined sort of personality - she did not look at or research the details of her trip enough. LE has mentioned she "hung out with criminal elements"...and I do believe this was innocent on her part - If she did not wander off by herself, she may have arranged to meet someone at the walls...who knows. But very well put!

Trying to estimate 100m north of the walled arch (the cave), ( by guestimating the size of the cars on the road ), I find an archway that allows entrance behind the wall, with a sidewalk that goes into it and an iron gate that is open in the photo. I wonder if she went through that gate to acess the back of the wall.

Sorry, I thought I had marked it but it didn't copy. Look for a person with a white cap walking beside the water on the sea view the water or a white car driving in front on the street view.

So the more I see these videos of her walking alone, she just looks so out of place to me (maybe because I know she's not a native). An attractive, very petite foreigner, walking alone and most likely looking like a foreigner to anyone who is not a foreigner. It just screams sex crime to me for some reason now.

I've always thought sexual assault since her pants were off. It just didn't get completed (no semen). Think of the Chandra Levy case and the two or three other women who were sexually assaulted by the perp, no completed rape

Are you thinking more "random sex crime of opportunity", or an attack by someone she knew?

Been offline for a day or so. Lots of interesting theories being floated around but sounds like nothing new from local LE. Cant say Im terribly surprised, afterall the wildcard info missing is how much time and resources they normally spend investigating a case like this. ETA: one thing id like to know, going back a few days, is if perps were ever apprehended in the tourist rape occurences in that area. sorry if this info was discussed earlier, but i think an arrest, or lack thereof, could be an indicator as to were we're going to end up with this.

Is this where the murder occurred or the body found? There must be another locked cave somewhere else.

I'm assuming body found. (the red looks like red bricks, in contrast to the more sand colored ones)

We don't know that the murder occured in a cave. Not speaking Turkish, I assume he is gesturing to the north of the now-locked cave to show the assault occured over that way.

Our Turkish friends could assist in reviewing where the prior rapes occured in relationship to this area.

Just a thought.

I found this video on you tube, not sure if anyone has posted it. It shows guys walking all over and a reporter in a cave - my computer speakers have gone on the fritz, don't know why, but it's Turkish TV so fair guess they are talking in Turkish and volume is irrelevant.
Wish Alp and Yashim were here to translate.

He says that this cave is where the body is found...and also mentions
at minute 03: 22 that she is killed approx 50-60mt. near this place in another cave, showing his back direction with his hand.

The good news is, despite the misinformation we've been given, it does appear the police have taken the crime seriously since day 1. They seem to have done a great job of preserving the crime scene, and appear to have collected a lot of evidence. I just hope this case doesn't go cold.

wasn't there a mainstream media report claiming the crime was committed in a nearby cave and dragged to the spot law enforcement eventually found it?

I thought it was more than speculation, because police said luminol in the original cave proved it to be the original crime scene.

Thanks for link....and i dunno, it's the 3rd or 4th time i have thought this: it looks so much easier to have got a body to that cave from the train area...
Meaning, suppose she was not climbing around at all, but was transported in some way by train.....of course it would have to stop for a bit, or maybe the body bag was tossed from the train, and accepted by accomplices who dragged it to the cave.
Is the rail line ''100 meters'' from the cave?
(and this discounts that footage with the big bag )
