According to Richard Engel on MSNBC, 2 explosions were outside and the third guy got into the airport because of hole or broken glass.

Istanbul airport attack: Turkish PM says Isis behind explosions that killed at least 36 – latest updates
Facebook has activated its safety check featurein the wake of the explosions in Instanbul.

The tool lets users who are at or near the site of a natural disaster or terrorist attack mark themselves and others as safe, as well as check if any of their friends have been affected.

Facebook’s Disaster Response page posted a status in relation to the blasts at Ataturk airport:

On Tuesday, June 28 at 11:35pm local time in Turkey, we activated Safety Check after the explosions that took place in Istanbul. Our hearts go out to everyone touched by these tragic events.”

Safety Check is a simple and easy way to say you’re safe and check on others after a crisis or disaster. We hope the people in the area find the tool a helpful way to let friends and family know they are okay.

yesterdays warning

pretty darn specific IMO!

The U.S. Department of State warns U.S. citizens of increased threats from terrorist groups throughout Turkey and to avoid travel to southeastern Turkey. This replaces the Travel Warning dated March 29, 2016.

While the State Department travel advisory the previous day was primarily for southeastern Turkey (and the Syrian border), the Ataturk Airport in Istanbul was in the northwestern part of the county.

This puts me in mind of 'refugee' impostors, which would put them in that part of Turkey, on the migration trail towards eastern Europe. The fact that they had small arms and suicide vests is alarming.

Istanbul Ataturk Airport Reopens After Deadly Turkey Terror Attack

by Cassandra Vinograd

Istanbul's busy Ataturk Airport reopened on Wednesday morning, hours after a coordinated terror attack blamed on ISIS left dozens dead, scores wounded and blood streaked throughout the arrivals hall.

Turkey's Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said three terrorists had arrived in a cab and carried out the assault, opening fire and setting off at least two explosions.

A series of chilling videos captured the horror unfolding: Panicked passengers running with their luggage, an orange ball of fire and what appeared to be one of the attackers falling to the ground then exploding.

Istanbul's governor said Wednesday that the death toll had climbed to 41 — including at least 10 foreigners and 3 dual nationals. More than 230 were injured though 109 have already been released from hospitals, the governor added in a statement...

TY Really scary too, because if these 3 were part of the group dispatched for Ramadan attacks....there are a whole bunch out there unaccounted for. Not necessarily in Turkey. UGH JMO ETA I lived in Adana Turkey a long time ago as a (former) USAF wife, next to Incirlik Air Base (the hub of our activities in this mess)......I'll bet there are no AF dependents there, now! I wonder if ISIS claiming, not claiming, or waiting to claim attacks is just another way they attempt to mess with our heads. It's almost passive-aggressive. Will they or won't they? Was it them? If not, then who?

It's been speculated that ISIS generally doesn't claim their attacks in Turkey, because they depend on their turning a blind eye to the fact that a majority of ISIS recruits enter Syria through Turkey and leave Syria for other parts of the world VIA Turkish airports, etc. Seems like they really blew it this time, though, by attacking Attaturk Airport........JMO just speculation.

I think you're correct this was stated as most likely the case on Fox News last night. Turkey needs to get tough on ISIS and cannot benefit from oil etc from them they can't profit from the deaths of their own people and tourists. It's interesting there are now press bans and social media has been limited in Turkey are the people there being told the truth about what is happening to their own country?

I'm just an observer, so all I know is that this ISIS crisis is far more complicated than my pea brain can understand. Turkey is a NATO country, and the only primarily Muslim one. Turkey hates Assad, but they also hate the PKK (Kurdish separatists, deemed terrorists) who are also , at least in northern Syria, Buddies of the USA in trying to defeat ISIS. Meanwhile, Russia is a buddy of Assad, but is blasting away at ISIS to assist Assad. Just about everyone hates Assad AND ISIS, but Assad and ISIS are enemies. It's a web of misery. That's my third grade take on it!!!!!LOL......JMO...................sickeningly, there are innocent civilians surrounded by the death and destruction. It is SO VERY NAIVE to think that "we" can just wipe them off the map. This is a global crisis, and I think the end is not in sight.

No, because they will continue mutating and changing their game until they are out of options, and at this point it seems they are at least one step ahead of us. I mean, even when they aren't ahead of us - we know they send suicide bombers to airports, for instance - they're still successful. We can't kill every single ISIS member and wannabe terrorist.

Right. And we cannot kill an ideology. No vaccine for this. JMO

Photo of one of the suicide bombers at the airport it is chilling

"This is the face of one of the suspected suicide bombers, walking calmly towards the terminal before beginning his murderous assault.

The picture shows the man - dressed in what appears to be a puffa jacket in the middle of summer - making his way into Ataturk Airport alongside an unsuspecting pilot.

Other CCTV footage shows another man, dressed all in black, shooting people as he moves inside the buildings, according to Hurriyet.

It is believed he they are two of three people who blasted their way through the terminal on Tuesday night, first picking off people with guns before detonating suicide vests, sending a ball of flames through the terminal.

The Turkish government has said the men were ISIS extremists. However, as of Wednesday evening, the Islamist group had yet to claim the attack."
