TX - 21 arrests in gang rapes of 11yo girl, Cleveland, 2010

I'm finding articles on this case dating back to December. I'm flabbergasted that this flew under our radar.

Cleveland HS students among 10 questioned in 'ugly' sex assault of minor

December 10, 2011

And the Stormfront forum ("White Pride") has been following the case for the last couple weeks. Yes, I read the Stormfront forum. I have nine children of color and I need something to keep my blood pumping. Trust me, don't go there. I'm providing no link.

"It sounds like LE wanted the whole family to relocate, but when they couldn't or didn't the kids were taken for their own safety. "

They only took 1 child. the 1 that was gang raped and if they took her because the family couldn't relocate, then they pretty much took the child because the family is poor. WHich is very wrong.

We're a middle class family and there is no way we could afford to relocate... just could not financially do it.

Peeples--I'm so tremendously sorry that you suffered through a rape. Truly I am. As a mother, it was the most agonizing thing in the world to have to pick up 8 children after their disclosures and physical exams, take them home and not talk. For ten months. I don't think I ever fully recovered, nor did they. And those who think they couldn't do it--you don't get a choice. You do it.

I do not want to offend nor do I wish to defend DHS. I'm merely saying that there might be more than is reported in the news.

FWIW, our family was also advised to move, given the level of trauma. After all, several of our children's bedrooms looked out on the very spot of their rapes. We chose not to, as a matter of principle. Our children had done nothing wrong, after all. In retrospect, I think we made a mistake. Our home was lovely and was built specifically by us for our large family but oh my, were there horrid memories there.

Once again, strong thoughts to you.

This list-form made it easier for me to absorb the magnitude of this crime.

The adult suspects so far:

Jared Glenn McPherson, 18;
Kelvin Rashad King, 21;
Marcus Anthony Porchia, 26;
Devo Shaun Green, 20;
Xavier King, 17;
Eric Bernard McGowan, 19;
Jared Len Cruse, 18;
Isaiah Rashad Ross, 21;
Timothy Daray Ellis, 19;
Rayford Tyrone Ellis, Jr., 19;
Jamarcus Norris Napper, 19.

Add four minors to that list.

And there are people out there that would blame an 11 year-old girl or her parents.

According to the Houston Chron,

Maria's two older daughters, who are in advanced placement classes and the band, and her 9-year-old son have all cried about being uprooted.

I took that to mean that they were removed too. Have you seen something different?

And I agree, most families would find it difficult to relocate on short notice for an indefinate period of time.

Race is going to be an issue....as it always is. I'll be brave and wade on in. The suspects I have seen so far have been black men. Stormfront states that the victim's aunt is black and yet there's a statement by a neighbor who said that the child seemed "out of place" on the night of the rapes. Out of place due to her age or her skin color? I lived in Texas for 14 years and know that race is always an issue. I love many things about the south but that's why we moved to the SF Bay area to raise our multi-cultural family. We did not want race to define any child.

Could race be an issue concerning safety? Is this entire town a tinderbox at this juncture?

Racial makeup of Cleveland, from Wikipedia, 2000 census:

The racial makeup of the city was 58.65% White, 27.13% African American, 0.33% Native American, 0.59% Asian, 11.58% from other races, and 1.72% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 20.51% of the population.

I think the reporter forgot a word. The word 'possibly' should probably have been included before the words 'being uprooted'.

Elsewhere in the article, the mother states that her 11 year-old misses them and wants to come home. The mother also says that the police want her entire family to move for safety reasons. So it sounds to me like only the victim had been uprooted as of that article, which is dated today.

I am not suggesting that anyone go to Topix. However, I will provide a link. Rooting through Topix comments is an onerous task. One in likely to find a scrap or two of useful information. However, you'll also come away with a sense of just how far society really has to go:

http://www.topix.com/forum/afam/TPDHNHTAAEID7I259

This one is up to over 80 comments so far, with a number of locals weighing in. You'll note that several commenters state that the girl presented herself as older than her age (not that it makes a whit of difference legally). However, this could be central to why she's in a safe house. If it has been determined that her parent/parents cannot ensure her safety, DHS can step in.

This one is from Feb 23

snip.....Two not yet in custody
Those arrested include:

Xavier King, 17; Kelvin Rashad King, 21, who also had an additional aggravated robbery and sexual assault of a child pending from 2009; Eric Bernard McGowan, 19, who has two prior convictions for delivery of controlled substance in a drug-free zone and for possession of a controlled substance; Jamarcus Norris Napper, 18; Devo Shawn Green, 20; Jared Glenn McPherson, 18; and Marcus Anthony Porchia, 26.

snip....The four arrested Friday include a Cleveland school board member's son, Isaiah Rashad Ross, 21. The other three are Jared Len Cruse, 19, who has pending charges for aggravated robbery and a home invasion; Rayford Tyrone Ellis Jr., 19, who has a pending manslaughter charge for the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old; and Timothy Daray Ellis, 19. It's unclear if the latter two suspects are related.

snip....Cedric DeRay Scott, 27,

snip....Harris County deputies picked up Scott last week. Records show he had served 30 days in jail for an assault on a family member last year.

Reading Topix reminds me that we, here at WS, are held up to a higher mandate. We are expected to be polite and gracious in our debates and to always be respectful of differences. If we aren't, we'll get our sorry bunnies booted off by Tricia and the mods in a heartbeat. That's exactly why I'm here.

For all we know, race might be the "elephant in the room". DHS and LE can't assume that all players in a case will take the politically correct path. They have to deal with reality. Reality in this town, might mean that things are getting ugly.

As much as we know and fully understand that a child cannot (EVER) give consent, there's a huge portion of the population who still need to learn this fact. The victim cannot be blamed. Even if she walked into that trailer naked and asked the men for this. And I'm highly doubtful that that's the way it played out. My guess, though, is that some in the community see her as being somewhat culpable. That belief is wrong-minded to me, but very possibly a reality in some people's perception.

My hope is that this community can pull together and refocus on what's really important here.....the fact that a child was raped.

The fact that people are blaming an 11 year-old girl in this case is mind blowing. Even in the news articles it uses the term she was "having sex" with the rapists and that the men were "having sex" with her. WTH? And why isn't the enraged mother of one of these thugs angry with her son instead of the little girl that he raped? This is unfreakenbelievable!:banghead:
