"Authorities are investigating a manifesto that includes remarks attacking immigrants and is sympathetic to the Christchurch attacker accused of killing 49 people in mass shootings at two New Zealand mosques this year, according to the two officials. Authorities have not confirmed that the manifesto is from the same attacker but continue to investigate it.

If investigators determine that Crusius did write the posting, he could be charged with violations of federal hate crimes laws."

This is all we talked about at my job at Walmart today. I work in OGP (online grocery puller) after the last employee and now this a lot of us are shaken up and hope nobody try's something at our store. <modsnip>

It's so scary. It just can't be predicted. And it looks like this coward might have begun shooting before he even got in. I mean one moment your walking into a store or gathering shopping carts or stocking product or looking for items you need to buy and the next moment you're in Beirut.

How can anyone anticipate that or prepare for it unless they're walking around like a soldier going into enemy territory in Afghanistan? The only ones who stand a chance are those who have a head start because they hear distant gun fire.

That's what's so scary about it.

Yup, and that manifesto will open the door to federal charges.

Not that it would really matter.

This is Texas after all.

This guy is Texas Toast.

They'll fry him long before the Feds would ever get around to it.

JMO.

He shot into a group of people trying to raise money, outside in the parking lot. Mostly women and children. Mostly Mexican-American. (CBSN; eyewitness).

That scene at their table will never leave my brain. There were some brave citizens running to help those victims. While shots were still being fired.

I'm watching CNN and they haven't said his name at all in an hour that they've covered it. I'm super glad. I hope every single media entity follows suit with that.

agreed! Do not give him the infamy he seeks. Those that really want to know can research it.

I feel like we need to have armed guards at the entrance of every public place.

CNN has his name all over the place online. In fact in the very first paragraph!

Armed guards wouldn't be a solution. I fear the mass murderer would kill them first... :(

Patrick Crusius: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know | Heavy.com

The manifesto was titled “An Inconvenient Truth.”

It began:

“In general, I support the Christchurch shooter and his manifesto. This attack is a response to the Hispanic invasion of Texas. They are the instigators, not me. I am simply defending my country from cultural and ethnic replacement brought on by an invasion. Some people will think this statement is hypocritical because of the nearly complete ethnic and cultural destruction brought to the Native Americans by our European ancestors, but this just reinforces my point. The natives didn’t take the invasion of Europeans seriously, and now what’s left is just a shadow of what was. My motives for this attack are not at all personal. Actually the Hispanic community was not my target before I read The Great Replacement. This manifesto will cover the political and economic reasons behind the attack, my gear, my expectations of what response this will generate and my personal motivations and thoughts.”

This makes me so sick and and upset! Then I see the killer with ear protection on to protect his ears from the loud noise while he killed innocent children and adults. How insane and inhuman to worry about his precious ears while killing others!

The garlic festival had armed police everywhere for security. The shooter still was able to murder three people including two kids in a matter of seconds before being taken out.

There was apparently some kind of open air market/mercado/booths outside in that area of the mall parking lot. The participants were almost entirely Hispanic (according to El Pasoans - I used to live there, so of course, my friends are describing Cielo Vista and its Saturday market in their own way). Cielo Vista is 1 mile from the house of my former in-laws, a house that is supposed to be shared by my kids and their cousins.

Anyway, it looks like he was able to choose mostly women and children in that area. The East Gate area is considered a safe area in El Paso. It does have lots of shoppers from across the border and last time I was there, stores were accepting and exchanging pesos. That was about 7-8 years ago, though.

It is very scary. It's awful that schools have to do active shooter trainings. There is no short term solution, either.
