I was hoping the silence meant there was something going on behind the scenes, but in Joann's latest Facebook video she sounded defeated and admitted the investigation was going nowhere. Very disheartening to hear. Like I said, my own investigation ran out of steam. I had a few of Ali's friends independently corroborate that there was an older guy on the scene. Although one of them said that Ali was also dating a fellow student at the same time. Their stories really opened my eyes about this case.
I still believe that Ali was meeting someone that afternoon, using the shift at the Burger Barn as a cover. I don't buy that she was planning to runaway, although one friend did mention something about Ali going to Mexico with a guy. A meeting was set up between Ali and the older guy she was seeing. Perhaps their relationship had become too risky, as Ali was legally a minor, and the guy agreed to meet her in order to abduct her. There is part of me that wonders if Ali was hiding a pregnancy. That might have been the final straw in the relationship. An older guy, perhaps a professional with a family of his own, sleeping with a teenager who now carries his baby? I could see that as his motive for foul play. Looking at Ali's final images, she did look kind of puffy and was wearing baggy clothing, but her weight did seem to fluctuate so it's hard to tell.
There was a Facebook video with Joann and Amber (PI) over a year ago, where Amber said that they traced one of Ali's calls to a member of law enforcement. They said it was presumably the officer's son that Ali was contacting. I remember rewatching that part a couple of times to be sure I heard her right. I don't recall this ever being mentioned again, bearing in mind I haven't seen every video update.
Back in the day, I received some VERY eye-opening information from one of Ali's old school friends. Let's just say, she said that Ali wasn't the sheltered kid that her mother made her out to be. Few teenagers are, to be honest. Of course, this was second-hand information, so take it for what you will.I wonder if perhaps she was the one who turned off her phone, willingly? I had a bit of a worry wart for a mom ( I both love and hate her for it lol) and if she knew I was out when I should home, she’d call frequently until I was back home. Maybe she hopped into someone’s car, and turned off the phone herself. Expecting to be alive to turn it back on later. It reminds me of me in my high school days.
Her mom told her no when Ali asked to walk over to the burger barn, but Ali put up a fuss and eventually the mom caved. Ali wanted to be outside of the house for a reason. I’m not so sure it was to pick up a cheque and a shift at the burger barn.
@ekardh I also think she was using the paycheck/shift as a cover. Because she was going to briefly see someone (not for long because she was going to have a friend come over later that evening) we gotta remember that her brother was still at home. Her mom would have been checking to see where she was after school and Mason was still at the house to verify she wasn’t home. So she needed an excuse to explain why she wasn’t there. And if her hang out with said person ran long, she could say she “picked up a shift” or something.
This shift thing got me thinking…had she ever asked to randomly pick up a shift last minute before? If this is a new behavior, I think that further leads credence to the notion that she wasn’t actually going to pick up a shift.
I’ve worked at a few restaurants before, and you usually get called in rather than going in yourself and asking if there’s something available. Especially if it was a weekday or it happened to be a not so busy time/season.
That also stood out to me. It’s just strange, but maybe that’s just me.
Thank you for sharing this. I agree with you and I also think there might be more to LE number she was calling from her phone as you mentioned earlier. I cannot imagine a scenario for her disappearance where there was NOT someone else involved.Back in the day, I received some VERY eye-opening information from one of Ali's old school friends. Unfortunately, this friend found it too uncomfortable to discuss Ali any further, and they cut off contact.
It's still my personal theory that she was using the Burger Barn as an excuse to meet up with an older man that she was involved with. It might have been his idea for them to meet up. I think that something happened that triggered the older guy to dispose of Ali, whether she was pregnant or threatening to expose him for statutory rape. I suspect it was something along those lines.
I was thinking along these exact same lines. Reminds me of Tabitha Tuders. An old friend of hers has been very vocal in saying that Tabitha hung out with an older, older male crowd. Whereas her mom paints her as someone different.Back in the day, I received some VERY eye-opening information from one of Ali's old school friends. I'm sure others can chime in with additional details, but someone earlier posted a link to the google map route would have walked. I'll post it here, but I can't take credit for it. Google Map of Ali's WalkCame here after listening to the Voices for Justice podcast episode on Ali’s case. It left me with a couple of questions that maybe have already been answered..
1. How populated was the area from Ali’s house to the Burger Barn? Were there cameras at any store in that area that could’ve caught her walking?
2. She stopped all contact at 3pm but who was she in contact with up until then?
I lived there a few years after Ali disappeared. (2015-2019 ish?) The middle school nearby I attended and I walked through this intersection and down that stretch of Cypresswood almost daily for an entire school year. It's a pretty busy area due to the grocery store nearby as well as it being in the middle of a bunch of neighborhoods.I'm sure others can chime in with additional details, but someone earlier posted a link to the google map route would have walked. Cameras I can't really give an insightful answer for but there's a gas station and McDonald's across the street from the shopping center so I wouldn't be surprised if she was picked up on any of them. IMO
Hope this is at least a little helpful![]()
This is one of those cases that is always in the back of my mind. My heart just aches for her mother.
One thing I've always wondered, is how extensively the homeowners along the route to the Burger Barn were investigated? I could see her being forced into a home just as easily as a passing car, but I never see that angle being discussed so I wasn't sure if they have all been officially ruled out.
Sorry, my post above this was supposed to be a reply to you.You think it could be similar to what happened to Leah Croucher? That is an interesting point.
The only business with external security cameras was the Valero gas station at the corner of Cypresswood and Treaschwig. John went through the footage and verified that Ali did not appear to make it as far as that corner, meaning she was taken (or left) in the approximate quarter-mile stretch of Treaschwig between Old Pike and Cypresswood. He was even provided with a copy of the footage by the convenience store, but after he gave it to the police, it was lost by HCSO.I lived there a few years after Ali disappeared. (2015-2019 ish?) I would be very interested in knowing more info on who you spoke to.Back in the day, I received some VERY eye-opening information from one of Ali's old school friends. I seem to recall from her disappeared episode that cameras were looked at from the gas station and she wasn’t seen on it at all. That’s why I seem to think that she might’ve gotten inside a car. And I would love to know if any suspects had a car that matched/correlated with any that were seen on the gas station footage at the time.I lived there a few years after Ali disappeared. While I want to agree with you, it’s the going into her work to possibly pick up an extra shift that has me questioning things. It was a weekday in the afternoon. I just can’t see anybody doing that without forewarning. But that might just be me.The only business with external security cameras was the Valero gas station at the corner of Cypresswood and Treaschwig. I know there are a lot of theories about her using the walk to Burger Barn as a cover, but having spoken to her family and friends, I am firmly in the camp of that not being the case.
I do believe there is something to the reports of seeing Ali speaking to someone in a white pickup truck, which was pulled over. I believe she knew this person and went with them willingly, despite it not being her plan. Perhaps they offered her a ride.
Unfortunately, I do not expect we will find her alive, but am doing what I can through research for a YouTuber to spread her story and hopefully get answers for her family and friends.
