GUILTY TX - Alicia Moore, 16, Greenville, 2 November 2012

As someone with a career in education, I am just saddened on how nonchalant and defensive the superintendent seemed. I kept waiting for the helpful reason he was speaking, you know, what would bring us closer to Alicia's justice (information, etc). But it wasn't anything about her justice, he didn't even look at their family when he offered condolences.

Re why go home that day rather than to the ACE program. If ACE was in-session that day, why not go home? It was a Friday. She was 16 yo. School and schoolwork all week.

Disclaimer: I have not seen the presser.. only reading ya'll comments.

It does sound like CYA .. and from my experience, organizations go into CYA mode when they feel like they've been threatened with a possible lawsuit. Sometimes families that are scared, and upset say things that don't help their cause. There are buzz words that cause schools, hospitals, etc to go into CYA mode.

I have absolutely no proof that this is the case here, but I wonder what the communication was between the family, school, and LE before the presser.

It shouldn't affect how the case is handled but, unfortunately, sometimes it does.

And, NO, I'm not blaming the family .. just stating from experience, that organizations DO go into CYA mode .. and why that sometimes is.

I don't know how close I'll stay to this case as I have a daughter that gets off the bus and has to walk a good distance home this year as there have been budget cuts and they will no longer drop her off at the driveway ... and we live way out.

Justice for Alicia.

How awful. :(
My hunch is, as posters stated previously, a young perp with ties to the school. I shudder to think it's a fellow student...a trusted teacher or faculty member...but, it could be.
Would a teenage perp drive 40 miles to dump her body? Also, where was Alicia for days before her body was left in the trunk? It would be hard for a teenage perp to commit this crime, if living with parents (lack of privacy, time, usage of a vehicle, etc.). BUT, Jessica Ridgeway's killer managed to do horrible things, even store body parts, in his mother's home right under her nose.
As for a teacher, teachers usually leave school after students are gone, so a teacher would have had to leave school early (compared to the other teachers) follow the school bus or take an alternate route to Alicia's bus stop, and avoid suspicion while doing so.
1/2 a block from home...what is this world coming to? :(

His condolences didn't even seem at all heartfelt. He reminded me of a school superintendent who spoke to a school where I was working while my grandmother lay dying in the hospital and made some insensitive comment to the effect that it was inexcusable to take off for the funeral of some ancient relative. When I got home I broke down and bawled my eyes out. That came back to me when I heard Mr. Jefferies speak and felt so, so bad that Alicia's family had to listen to that. :(

I don't know. I was trying to find out if "attendance" is taken during the ACE time and/or is it optional for the student to attend daily?

That's another good question. Also, when auntie was asked what Thursday night was like at the home, she answered that Alicia was not doing really great in one of her classes, and she kind of got on to her about that, but otherwise it was a normal evening. Not sure if it's relevant but interesting to note.

I didn't get a chance to watch the presser, but what I'm reading here makes my heart ache for Alicia and her family. I can't imagine why the superintendent was speaking to the media at this time, anyway. If they feel the need to go in CYA mode, this wasn't the time. For Pete sake, just express condolences to the family first, and CYA another time! Thank goodness the Texas Rangers took over the investigation.

Still trying to wrap my mind around what we just watched... wow

Local PD and the School Official seem to be applying the rationale: " we followed procedures " and " various criteria were or were not met".

My criteria is: What would you do if this is your 16 year old daughter that is missing ?

Wonder if she had something planned since it was Friday? I can't remember if it was Alicia's aunt or the female family friend who said she didn't normally socialize outside of school. But, what if someone invited her to do something fun on the spur of the moment?

I noted that too about one grade was too low, per aunt. How did she get home after ACE? Does the GISD run another bus service for the ACE students? Didn't the aunt say that her uncle was always home?

My instincts only tell me, No, she wasn't meeting a friend after she got off the bus even though it was a Friday. Appears to me that the family monitored her very closely.

The male family friend mentioned that the area where Alicia was found has very few African Americans...while crimes like this are usually Intra-racial, that does make me wonder if the perp is white. Pretty brazen to dump her in an area like that, and that makes me think they are pretty comfortable there.

I know it's a neighboring county, but there is still a substantial distance between the abduction site and the dump site, which may be a clue. It's probably someone with ties to both locations, maybe someone who has lived in both places or travels to one or the other for work.

From my experience in Houston, the schools generally run an "activity bus" and this takes the kids home from after school sports/tutoring, what-have-you. It only runs once a day. The traditional bus for after school runs right after school.

I'm interested in this uncle too (god, not another Gabbiee case). From what I can surmise, Alicia lived with her aunt, uncle and mom in the same home? With the close family friends nearby? Family friend was very well-spoken and has had a lot of experience (it sounds like) with runaways and knows the patterns. She knew something was 'off' from the get-go.

Another observation is the only person who seemed sad/emotional was the gentleman family friend there at the presser. The auntie and friend were angry (and I understand that completely). Auntie has been VERY proactive on her FB page. From that page, I'm guessing her mom/grandmother to Alicia lives nearby as well.

Hours of Operation
Monday thru Friday
6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Maybe she traditionally took the city bus home after her ACE program?

ETA: I can't find any sort of public transportation in Greenville, Tx.

Was there any mention by LE of the number of sex offenders in Alicia's area during the presser? If not, why not?

  • #218
I did not catch the presser either.

I think the Aunt has FB on her phone and uses it a lot? If that is so , she would see anything any of her "friends, family....etc...." post. Not really stalking per se.

Also, how many kids are left on the bus after Alicia got dropped off? I wonder if any kids could have watched her for a bit longer than the only mentioned witness, the bus driver.

my gosh, it just seems so short a distance to be kidnapped.

I bet local. Also not leaning towards a kid. This 🤬🤬🤬 had a truck IMO.

Our children cant be walking alone! No matter what their age! 10-18 it makes no difference. A young lady cant be alone thats all there is to it.
Safety in numbers. Even if it means going to someone elses home till mom or dad gets home Better to be safe than sorry!

If we cant get them off the streets then we need to do things differently with our children!
All JMO

The common bond with every one of our missing children is they were alone!

Oh no. :( This story is so sad!

Re: the above, while I wish it would, it doesn't seem like going to someone else's home will help, IMO. Seems like so many of these kids have disappeared in such a short distance from wherever they were going, unless someone MEETS them at the bus and walks with them, they'll be walking alone for at least a short distance.

Liz and Lyric weren't even alone. :(

Sickening.
