DH also remembered the funny things about McDonald’s personality.

“Some things I am learning that I did not know were, of course, she was very competitive and loved to work out and loved sports,” DH said through laughter. “So competitive, she would cheat. I just learned that she would put the Fitbit on the dog so the dog would make it look like she was achieving all of this walking and running and steps you had to do, and she would always win the competitions. She would own up to it eventually though.”

She said the number one priority now is to take care of McDonald’s 8-year-old daughter who has autism, and her aunt, McDonald’s mother.

“We have to remember her child,” Hylton said. “That child is now without her mother. We have to do what is in the best interest of that girl who has certain challenges as well. She needs that extra care and that extra attention.”

DH said life has been a major struggle for McDonald’s mother, Hyacinth Smith, since the disappearance of her daughter.

“Andreen had a very promising and amazing assisted living business and that is how she was taking care of her daughter,” DH said. “That is how her mother was helping as well and now, it all seems to be snatched away from them without their understanding. We have just now been able to get the lights on in the house. We have just been able to fill their refrigerator with some food. With the help of Pamela Allen and her organization and friends of mine, we were able to pay for this funeral. She has been through a lot. It has been at the hands of those family members outside of our immediate family who have cut her off from everything.”

DH, who is an activist for raising awareness about the severity of domestic violence, said though she lives far away in New York, she will constantly fight for her family. As far as Andre McDonald, McDonald’s husband and who is accused of murdering his wife, Hylton said they are hoping the right justice is served.

“In terms of criminal cases in the courthouse we’re in the ditch, so to speak”, said McDonald’s attorney, John Convery, who was referring to a moratorium on jury service ordered in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Convery is awaiting a decision on pretrial motions on file in the case.

“There’s about three search warrants in this case that build on each other, and we believe they have some very serious issues," he said.

McDonald's tampering with evidence bail has been reduced to $100,000.00 from $300,000.00.

As prosecutors sift through new evidence that resulted in another trial delay, a judge agreed to reduce Andre McDonald’s bail to a total of $250,000, roughly two weeks after his bail was reduced to $550,000.

Andre McDonald, 42, posted bond totaling $250,000. This comes just days after his bond was reduced from $550,000, according to a previous KSAT report.

On the murder charge, his bond was reduced to $200,000. On his tampering with evidence charge, his bond was reduced to $50,000.

A hearing for Andre’s case is set for early December, and the trial will happen in January.

Eagles Flight San Antonio has been able to provide help with bills and groceries and even gave the little girl holiday celebrations.

“We had this private meeting with Santa Claus for her and the children of Mary Rodriguez, who was murdered after Andreen,” Allen said. “These children had no mother or father during the holiday.

At one of those celebrations, Allen learned that Andreen’s daughter, who is autistic, has a fear of men.

“As we were walking in, she saw men, and she immediately grabbed her grandmother’s hand and said, ‘There is men! There is men!’ She started having a meltdown,” Allen said. “She has autism, and so from what she’s been through, she saw men as being aggressors and being someone she needs to be afraid of. I had the men sit down and wait for her to approach, but people in the room just started weeping, knowing what she had been through.”

“From having to move out of the house she lived in with her mother and father to now they are just staying with family members because they don’t have the ability to get a home on their own,” Allen said.

She added that the girl is beyond traumatized.

Allen said she was outraged to see that Andre McDonald had posted bond.

“I was so angry because Andreen’s mother and child had been kicked out of the home they lived in, displaced, gone through trauma and struggled to even get food, and yet this man gets so much grace,” Allen said. “It was frustrating to hear that. I was so angry. He gets freedom, and they are so scared that they have secluded themselves. Legally, it might make sense to the justice system, but to most people in the street, you think, ‘Wait, what just happened?’”

Allen had this to say to Andre McDonald, who is currently on partial house arrest and is allowed to work.

“You have crushed so many hearts,” Allen said. “And you have the ability to let your legacy, at least, be one of repentance, and he should, if he is even capable of doing the right thing, I wish he would and take care of his daughter.”

Bexar County courts gearing up for busy 2022 (ksat.com)
COVID-19 has forced delays to in-person jury trials twice, causing a backlog in cases.

Starting January 3, there will be no restrictions to the number of in-person jury trials taking place.

“We are doing a lot of murders and a lot of sex cases and that’s because those are the folks that are in custody now,” Rangel said. “So we are trying to move those courts and those cases.”

During his last hearing, his bond was reduced and he has since bonded out of jail.
