Adult children shake off parents' calls for various reasons every day all day. Sending a whole team of SWAT officers seems like a really poor use of resources. But the manner in which they did the welfare call sounds right on the money.

Maybe she has a former partner who stalks/is a domestic abuser, which might better explain your particular circumstance. But without knowing that, it sure sounds extreme.

Yes, without knowing the situation one might think that. Myself, knowing the situation I feel they did the right thing. An officer was also sent to my Grandchildren's school. Not overkill, they did what needed to be done.

I just watched the footage from CNN.com earlier; so disturbing! It was a non-emergency call, so why was tactical called to the scene??? The neighbor who called is filled with guilt b/c he was just being a good concerned neighbor, but now feels if he didnt make that call, she would still be alive. Smh

Bringing the transcript of the non emergency call forward.IMO It is my belief that the first (and there were many) fatal mistake occurred here. Per police chief, the response protocol for LE is very different if it had been dispatched welfare check vs open structure. Was the call dispatched correctly? Should dispatch have received more information about who the neighbor thought may be in the home? Was LE given all the information provided by the neighbor before they arrived on scene?

According to the arrest affidavit, Jefferson was inside a bedroom playing video games with her 8-year-old nephew moments before the shooting. The 8-year-old boy told police Jefferson heard noises coming from outside and that she grabbed her handgun.

The boy said she had the handgun raised and pointed toward the window. This is when Jefferson was shot.

According to the affidavit, Dean declined to give an interview to police about his account and has not given a written statement, either.

Is the image of a gun they "supposedly" thought was a threat? If so, to me it clearly looks like a toy. But, she's in her home, the firearm would be allowed as long as she wasn't a felon, which I highly doubt. These skiddish police officers have to go! They are taking the lives of innocent people.

This is the still shot of the gun in the home from the body cam footage posted above. Appears to be stationary on a dresser or desk. I don’t see anyone near it.

When was this said by the nephew? The family said the nephew wanted to go to the window but his aunt wouldn't let him. There was no mention of her grabbing her gun and pointing it at the window. Which would be her right to do.

OK, I read it. Thanks for that. I can’t help but wonder, if the victim was pointing her gun at him, why was he yelling at her to put her hands up, show me your hands while he’s firing at her? When the victim’s family talked about the nephew there was nothing said about the gun.

Kraus said the gun found in the room "made sense" if Jefferson was alarmed to hear someone walking around outside her bedroom window. He also said the officers apparently believed they were responding to an "open structure" call – which could have meant the home was broken into – rather than a "welfare call" where they check to make sure people in the home are safe.

The change between the non-emergency call and the transfer to dispatch and dispatch to officer are the pivotal moments imo. It set in motion a chain of events that guaranteed the outcome we saw.

Did this officer respond correctly to the call he received? Seems the other officer was responding in exactly the same way. There is still no defense to shooting this victim.

There is more than one culpable person here and is why the acting chief is keeping other LE away from this investigation imo. He has invited the FBI to investigate possible civil violations, but not the investigation into the death of Ms Jefferson itself.

He wants the status quo to remain and he is dead wrong. Jmo.

She may have picked up her gun, but she didn't immediately shoot like the trained professional that killed her. Plus, she was in her "castle" being stalked.
