UPDATE: FBI, DPS, and Wise County Sheriff’s Deputies have cleared the scene.

No one has told us why they were here or what they might have found.

Foul play isn't suspected at this time, police said. But they also add that it hasn't been ruled out.

Child Protective Services confirmed to WFAA that they have never had any cases involving Athena. However, sources told WFAA that CPS has visited the home prior to investigate the stepmother and another child.

Police said the father and stepmother are cooperating with their investigation. Akin said they are acting "appropriately" to the situation.

But Athena's mother Maitlyn Gandy and her sister (and Athena's aunt) Keeland Kulbeth said things aren't adding up right now, and that Athena wouldn't just wander off.

Hoping just for once there is a positive outcome …

If there is a rumor and someone tipped it into police as a real tip, would that have caused the search?

For them to leave so abruptly makes it seem like there was nothing found there.

Maybe a found shoe/boot?
Maybe they found something or at least thought they did. I wonder if any evidence was collected. No one on the scene seemed to comment in that way though.

It's possible they found clothing they believe was associated with her? Or someone called in a tip and made it sound urgent and many responded?

I’m glad and sad it wasn’t her at the same time. I hope she is found (safely, of course) sooner than later. The unknown is so hard.

At least it seems to not be a child in a ditch so far. moo.

With FBI being there could they have tracked someone’s phone pings to that area? Don’t really understand why FBI is involved at this point.

Good point.

Right. The longer this goes on, and the magnitude of the LE's response/presence has me thinking her body could definitely have been discovered, but not because of a hit-and-run event.
Well, it's bittersweet that it didn't end up being Athena (based upon LE's leaving the scene).

Following. This case, IMO, smells of the possibility that something nefarious happened but cannot judge this early on. Interesting that Dad was going hunting and was a distance from "Athena's missing site". Wasn't that perhaps convenient, or was it just a coincidence? There are definitely some family dynamics at play here that, to me, is concerning. I do not believe that she ran away, not at all. I pray she is safe and sound...not abducted nor lost..<modsnip> and random abduction is not high on my list of possibilities.

Can someone tell me if the father was at home when Althena went missing? I'm seeing conflicting information on that. TIA.

The time of his departure isn't clear. It seems stepmom isn't mentioning his being at the house after Athena got off the bus.
