I remember the Cherish Perrywinkle case too, it haunted me for a long time as I am sure this one will every now and then I check to see if Cherish’s murderer has received the death penalty yet but it seems he’s endlessly appealing it.

Of course he felt better -- he, TH and not "Zero," had finally achieved a fantasy likely years in the making.

Even better than getting that regular, unchanging route that the big bad FedEx subcontractor took away from him.

This case is among the most horrific I've ever followed, and I'm tapping out now -- a privilege, of course, that was never afforded Athena by her sadistic murderer.

I hope and expect that TH will receive the DP and hopefully will remain offscreen during the upcoming years/ decades of appeals, etc. Thanks to all who report on and support A and her grievously wounded family and friends, who have had to live through this nightmare, and still will long after final gavel.

from watching and reading about true crime for years post an event such as murder the adrenaline crash is huge, murderers are often very sleepy or chilled, I remember the young girl and her boyfriend who murdered 3 members of her family went home and slept, if I could hide this sentence under a blue sticker I would but am not tech savvy enough to do so but it is almost similar to post coital,

Sadly, you're right. You will think of of this case any time you hear Jingle Bell Rock. It happened to me with the Waukesha parade attack case. I can't hear Mariah Carey's "All I want for a Christmas" without thinking of that case.

I’ve been browsing Texas’s death row population

49 years is the oldest inmate waiting. Crazy. TX heavy on the DP for murdering people and cop killers. If he does get the DP, someone will probably take him out sooner, considering how horrific it was, and the guards will look away. This personally is what I want. General pop. Have at him.

There are alternates in every jury for reasons of illness, etc. In a big trial, there will be at least two alternates. Walking away would only cause an alternate to be empaneled, and they've been watching the trial same as the others.

Speculation only, I wonder if this is stopping anyone but this guy. The problem with child sex predators is that very little will ever stop them. In fact, the release of all of these awful details is probably the opposite of a deterrent. (Stopping this guy is a good thing, obviously.)

Nobody should be forced to be subjected to this. If somebody wanted to nope out of there, I would understand. It’s not a typical expectation to watch/listen to a snuff film.

No doubt there will be some sort of a defense response and most probably pointing out what they perceive is a personality disorder(s) untreated or treated with the wrong meds, childhood trauma, baseline stupidity, low IQ, bullied in school, absentee father, experienced SA himself as a child, forced to watch smut by whomever he can think of, not allowed to eat hot dogs as a child/ forced to eat hot dogs as a child, peanut allergy, etc. Appeal(s) of whatever sentence is handed down is allowed so I'm hoping his lawyers don't make any errors that would lend to improper defense appeal. I'm also hoping the state hasn't made any errors and that the judge is pristine in his jury charge. I would not want to see any part of these judicial proceedings overturned on appeal.

As for the DP, he is a stellar candidate, his crime is exemplary in every way that the people of Texas meant when they passed the legislation. I personally think the manner a death sentence is carried out now is way too easy. Too peaceful. Just close their eyes, breath deep and go to sleep. To have to experience the exact same manner of death as they meted out, in my opinion, would suffice. The years this convict will spend on death row just can't equate with what he did to Athena.

I think it's cruel to make the jury listen to that and disgusting to allow him to listen to it and probably enjoy it. The whole thing is grotesque. How about a transcript to read, with an expert testifying about what is depicted? The jury system shouldn't be designed to traumatize jurors, and yes, I have served on two juries. I would have left and excused myself from serving.

I'm no good at linking from my phone but I found information on jury support in brutal criminal cases, and there is support in Texas for jurors in cases of murder and sexual assault. Different types available during and after the court case. They mention measures taken to reduce stress on jurors during proceedings, like not leaving graphic depictions up any longer than necessary.

Also explaining in advance how to deal with the information, there are ways to separate your feelings from your thoughts, and to NOT dwell on images and regurgitate them in your own mind. I've learnt that in trauma therapy for going forwards. Otoh I don't know how quickly someone can learn and then apply those skills.

Also if anybody has done jury duty in Texas in the past 15 years and says this is hogwash, then you know better.
