May as well abolish the death penalty if its not applied to Tanner. Never seen a more appropriate use for it than in this case.

Do the think this was his first and only attack/killing?

I'm curious about the timeline. The cctv still image of her kneeling in the truck with him behind the wheel has a time of 23.42. In the image she is fully clothed and doesn't looked injured, in my mind he hadn't started his assault on her yet. If he snatched her at approx 17.30 was he driving around with her doing deliveries in the back for all that time?

The cctv still image taken of him cleaning the truck is at 01.24 so we know she was assaulted and her life ended between 23.42 and 01.24.

I'm just curious where was he driving/what was he doing between 17.30-23.42?

Were the jury shown the 4 hours of continuous cctv footage from 17.30-23.42?
I read somewhere that the clock on the FedEx truck video was approximately 6 hours fast. Can’t remember where I read it, so JMHO. Things make a lot more sense with that timeline, though.

Oh ok this makes sense. So if the clock was 6 hours fast then 23.42 was actually 17.42, and the cctv still of her was just minutes after she was snatched. The cleaning of the truck was at 19.24. Meaning he kidnapped her, tortured and ended her in less than 2 hours. What a sicko.

I’ve had difficulty watching this case. I consider myself a hardcore crime content follower, but I’ve struggled with the facts of this one. So, my question is was there any evidence the defendant actually struck Athena with his vehicle by accident? It seems I recall defendant used this as an excuse he killed the child. Any proof of this?

Yes I've been wondering this too and didn't want to ask so thank you for bringing that up

No, there is not.

But there is abundant proof he did not.

Athena follows him to the truck.

He picks her up and puts her in the truck.

Uninjured.

Continuous. Didn't hit her driving in because she's alive, walking with him. Couldn't have hit her backing up because she was already in the truck.

Utter lie.

Not to mention, he purposefully turned his forward camera off 1.5 hours before arriving.

Nothing accidental here.

Just monstrous.

Separated for 60 years.
No contact. No answers.
Until a cold case changed everything.

In 1971, a young woman was found barely alive in a quiet Maryland field with no ID, and no witnesses. Succumbing to her injuries, her case went cold.

For 54 years, her identity remained unknown, until advances in forensic DNA and a determined investigation finally uncovered the truth, revealing a family torn apart for decades and reunited two siblings who had not seen each other in 60 years.

In Episode 2 of Trace Identity, a new series from Othram Studios, we explore how DNA can transform uncertainty into identity and change lives in ways no one expects.

Finding it difficult to read all the posts for this case. Why did Athena follow him to the truck? Did he ask her to? Thanks.

Disgusting. The defense wants to throw everything but the kitchen sink in here. Personality disorder, Autism, learning disabilities, PTSD.

Whatever. There is zero potential for rehabilitation here. TH is an inhumane psychopath. I read that he tried to commit suicide in jail, probably punked out on it.

He kidnapped and abused a defenseless child. Who literally was no threat to him. Ruined lives.

I absolutely do not see what sort of whining self serving defense is even worth presenting that will overcome the inhumanity of this defendant.

Right. At this point it doesn't matter why he did it on a personal level. What matters is that he was and is capable of doing it, and that is 100% incompatible with society.

I don't know the right answer - but thinking he told her he had her Christmas present in the truck - and she followed him....

I also think he probably told her he had a parcel for her or something like that. He just wanted to get her close enough to the back to lift her in.

IMO he assaulted and killed her so quickly because he knew she’d reported missing and police would soon be looking for her. So many child abductions happen in vehicles. This case reminds me of the Sarah Payne murder in the UK. Another opportunistic paedophile targeting an innocent child.

Agreed. That is probably why the prosecution did not take the DP off the table when the defendant pled guilty. There would have been outrage on an epic scale. Especially in Texas.

Which is interesting, because most people just "shrugged" when the prosecutor in Idaho gave into the Bryan kohberger case, and took his guilty plea in exchange for the Death Penalty.

Maybe in this case, the evidence is absolutely iron clad on many levels. And it is SA of a child, killed during a kidnapping. This case is what the DP is all about.

I have been on the internet a long time now. I was a teen when "watch people die" type stuff was popular edgy material. I have read about countless cases that horrify me as an adult.

But just the description of the audio may be the worst thing I have ever encountered on the internet. You don't typically have that kind of access in these horrible cases. Your imagination tends to fill in the gaps with all things awful, but this feels so much worse, IMO. That poor sweet baby.

I understand that this creature is an adult, but I am extremely suspicious about his mother's comments, "I know how you get", I hope LE dug into that further...could she be held responsible in any way if she knew things and could have reported him?

I think with Kohberger there’s still so many unanswered questions and unknowns that people were okay with him getting LWOP in the hopes that maybe one day we’ll learn more about what happened and why. With this case, it’s clear what happened and why especially with the audio. There is no need for Tanner to be on this earth anymore.

I can't get past his mother's comments either. How exactly does she know "how" he gets? There's really not much room there to explain away her comment other than the most obvious - that she knew has a perverted attraction to little girls. The fact that this was the first thing she said makes it pretty stinking clear.

I agree. I was looking at the current residents of Texas death row and I think he will be right up near the top of terrible people who committed terrible crimes. Many are there for shooting a cop at a traffic stop and the rest are mostly murders in commission of a felony (robbery) or double homicide. All tragic obviously but this one stands out as uniquely evil and worthy.

She didn't appear to me to look like she had been struck by the van on the video of her holding on behind the driver......

We don't know, there's no audio for that. But as others have suggested, he lured her.

At the other home, he asked the little girls if there was an adult who could get the package, because he cushions why to risk spoiling any Christmas surprises, he said. But of course it was a deliberate plot to learn where the adults were.

I can't recall now when he delivered the Barbie package, it was cast to the side, and I can't even recall which door he left it at, but he must have told her he had more packages and needed her help or something.

I see delivery vehicles differently now. They used to be the backdrop to society, almost invisible from familiarity. Unless of course I'm expecting a package, then there's that happy anticipation. Now my mind goes straight to TH. And the tread pattern of the floor and his shoes.

40 hour override.

How easily that audio and video could have been lost. And with it, the audio and video from the other home, with the two little girls. It was clear what he was planning, turned his forward camera off 1.5 hours prior.

He was angry his route had changed. Just how many little girls had he stalked? How many times did he turn his camera off? We'll never know, long written over.

It was harrowing listening to the witness who located, viewed and preserved the audio and video. One wrong move and it's erased. Overwritten, or destroyed by automatic reformatting.

The investigator flew there to review it and learn how to preserve that, that's how precarious it was.

Anyway, it's especially odious that TH used something as American pie as Fed Ex for this demonic plan. Modern day Santa, truck full of goodies.

That he was delivering her Christmas gift, all the sicker.

Evil.

It's also proven. Obviously his story that he hit her, picked her up because she was gravely injured, false. But there is video (from the interior dash cam, through the window) of her walking with him to the truck which is of course stationary. Clearly she was not anywhere near the path of his arrival.

And when he left the property, she was already in the van, proving he couldn't have struck her while backing up/driving away.
