TX - Austin Metcalf - 17 - fatally stabbed at track meet, 2 April 2025

The DA indicated the grand jury will likely meet by the end of June so I don't see anything happening in Court until he's indicted. Unless he violates his pretrial release, bond conditions. JMO
Cant happen soon enough. This whole presser crap was an utter disgrace. No shame, no morals, or anything of conscious from Dominique Alexander and all the people who spoke today specially the murderer's mother IMHO. <snipped by me>

EBM :my clipboard pasted comments to my post that I was saving to read later, that weren't mine and from elsewhere, sorry!

Not sure how to formulate this thought without sounding judgmental. I know fund raising apps have genuinely helped folks in difficult situations - house fires, huge expenses related to medical expenses, etc. And I know folks voluntarily contribute. Is there a point that it seems “over the top”? Just wanting to know how others feel or is it a personal decision.

You don't sound judgemental at all, it's truly an ethical dilema that is worth serious consideration.
I can't find fault with the donation platforms. But the folks filling the donation pot for a kid who murdered another kid, is just unreal.

I’ve seen one’s local to my area have a specific request with a specific cost. Once they’ve met their goal, they keep raising the goal, bit by bit, sometimes until it’s 4 to 5 times over the original goal. At the end, they will state any left over funds will be donated. I often wondering how the first contributors feel, especially if they donated on the more generous side. I guess it’s really neither here nor there in the grand scheme of things.

Agree. This whole thing is a sickening disgrace to humanity.
I noticed the spokesperson asked for continued support for the family after he named the long list of past fund raisers. I also noticed the mom, who I felt some sympathy for, said Metcalf boys. I thought I had misunderstood, but it was also in the written article of what was said. I wondered if their defense is going to also name AM’s twin in their case?

If KA went to the other tent to steal, I wouldn't be surprised.
It would be easy to slip items into the same backpack that held his knife.

All he'd have to do is get up and saunter away and it might take the others a moment to realize something was missing.
If KA was from a different school which it looked like he was, they may not have recognized him ?

He came prepared to stab someone if he felt disrespected, so I don't think it's a stretch to say he was there for other purposes.
Imo.

I think for many of us, we are dealing with a first here:

I think we have a situation where the TOS of the most popular crowdfunding organization has long disallowed campaigns hosted on their site where the purpose is to support and defend an alleged criminal-- including raising money to pay for their legal defense.

And, while I endorse these conditions as appropriate for moral and legal reasons, I believe they are strictly enforced by the founder because the organization guarantees donors a full refund if they experience issues with a fundraiser, such as misuse of funds or fraud. In other words, they too are at risk, and their mission appears to satisfy the majority as trustworthy.

Fast forward to the Anthony family campaign, I can say that I was personally unaware that there was another crowdfunding organization that hosts campaigns to support alleged criminals and their legal defense, and where the family successfully raised nearly half a million dollars over a relatively short period!

I think it's human nature to be suspicious of the unknown-- especially if it comes off to you as supporting "over-the-top" goals. But this is also where your State Attorney General's Office reminds the donor to always practice sound, "buyer beware" rules that you understand and can live with.

Relative to legal defense funds, while I'm aware of defense attorneys who believe being paid from crowdsourcing violates their professional ethical standards and choose not to defend any participant, there are just as many attorneys who believe otherwise.

Respectfully, I think this is a personal decision, just as donating or not is a personal choice. MOO

The Anthony family have done nothing BUT speak since the murder. For being a Christian family they seem to have forgotten the commandment 'thou shalt not lie'.
Or “thou shall not kill”, or Jesus’ suggestion on turning the other cheek
I feel that, if they could, KA’s defense would blame the knife: it did it, the knife is guilty no KA!

Given the police report and all the witness statements, it seems to me that KA was exhibiting extreme paranoia to conduct himself in this manner at 10AM at a District wide track meet.

And reading that he was involved in an altercation at school a month earlier, it's concerning that his parents did not see this coming!

These young, stand-out athletes especially are very susceptible to head injury (playing concussed) while chasing the bling of future contracts they believe they are destined for. I'm beginning to see KA and his family in this light. But let's keep the money rolling in and get a PR team on track with that.

Leaving jail as if KA was a celebrity, what are they thinking?

Who's truly looking out for this kid who just stabbed another kid in the heart....

MOO

And now (per the presser), the parents are blaming the Frisco ISD for the deadly violence by their child!

It's the School's fault for not canceling the track meet when rain was forecasted?

I must renew my concern for this youth who I doubt has ever been held accountable. JMO

I do think it’s hard to be in his parent’s position, knowing in your heart, your son, more than likely, will be serving a prison sentence. I don’t necessarily agree with their decisions. It seems negative things have been said about both boys, not just KA. I don’t know them, maybe they are also being taken advantage of by folks with an agenda? Not really sure. It’s not every day you hear of one 17 year old stabbing another in the heart.

I caught that also. I think they are gasping for straws, realizing their son may be looking at a lengthy prison sentence. JMO

I understand that KA’s parents are in a hard position and so are AM’s with the main difference that it was KA’s actions who created this situation: he brought a knife to a track meeting, he chose to use the knife when pushed and told to leave

I don’t expect KA’s parents not to defend him but silence would have been better than this ongoing circus, their son (probably) serving a prison sentence is a consequence of his own actions

Oh I definitely agree, silence would be golden here.

I haven't posted much on this thread because, well, It's very upsetting. But, as a person who ran track myself and then being one of the moms that supplied food/drinks to the tent for my. kids' track teams I definitely understand about the team tents. I really hate the fact that the tent situation has been downplayed and/or treated like it was just bleacher seats that were not assigned. The tent area is not the same as the spectator area and is definitely not intended to be free range by just anyone. It's guaranteed suspicious behavior to be inside another team's tent unless you are friends with at least one person and you're there to hang out. This does not sound like that.
