TX - Austin Metcalf - 17 - fatally stabbed at track meet, 2 April 2025

A jury trial is set to begin on June 1, 2026 with the new gag order in place until the end of proceedings.

Feels like forever. Not much to discuss with the gag order in place, marking my calendar for trial.

Yeh, due to lack of any articles or case information, this thread is dead.

I guess we will all come back come June of next year.

One last thing.... do we have any idea on the trial (in Texas) allows:
1) Video camera's in the courtroom?
2) Daily updates allowed from the Press from inside the courtroom?

Any (relatively new) articles written on the subject?

A Collin County judge has issued a gag order in the Karmelo Anthony case.

Gag orders bar people involved in a trial, such as parties, attorneys and witness from speaking publicly about the case to the media or online.

A grand jury indicted Anthony for first-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf at a Frisco high school track meet. The trial is scheduled to start next June in Judge John Roach Jr.'s courtroom.

Court records show an order of protection was also issued. It's not known who the protective order was for. Both the Anthony and Metcalf families have faced harassment.

The case has gained national attention online over issues of race. Anthony is Black and Metcalf was white.

Frisco ISD was recently subpoenaed for personal information of student athletes from Memorial High School who attended the track meet where Metcalf was stabbed. Metcalf attended Memorial high school.

Anthony has no upcoming hearings listed on the docket. His anticipated trial date remains 6/1/26

This must be so frustrating for the victim's family. Not able to say anything. And holidays coming up. So tragic.

Frustrating for the public (us) too, not to get any updates. But that said, I do understand the reasoning behind the gag. This case touches on some hot buttons and the rumor mill was out of control when the case first broke. I will try to wait patiently for justice for Austin.

Smacks of some sort of privilege. I don't remember many other cases that were handled with kid gloves like this one. As if, Mr. Anthony is some sort of super star.

honestly I don't think it has anything to do with the defendant's entitlement, although I do not dispute there does appear to be an air of that surrounding his family's behavior after the murder. I think the judge granted the gag order in part to shut up those on social media spreading clickbait meant to fuel racial divides and also to quiet down the "minister" of justice acting as the family's mouthpiece.

Like I said, I can understand why the judge ruled as he did. I would rather get a suitable jury at the end of the day, than the court have to parse through hundreds who have already formed opinions based on info that came from either SM or the mouthpiece.

Temporarily walked away from this case due to frustration.

Still ... Austin's loved ones are in my thoughts.
Holidays must be so difficult for them.
I'm certain the pain has not eased in the slightest, esp. for his twin brother. 😡 😭
Hope they know how many of us care about them, and are impatiently waiting for justice.
Imo.
