Thank you for your perspective, leyash. I Googled a cost of living calculator and geez, louise, it’s 35% more expensive to live in Austin than where I live! To live on an “equivalent” salary in Austin, I’d have to make $21,000 MORE than I do now.

Ye gods! I also better understand the frustration everyone must feel there, including those raising families like you are. [emoji15]

http://www.bestplaces.net/cost-of-living/

It's pretty frustrating.

My parents bought their house for $165,000 FOUR years ago. That same house? Now worth almost $280,000. Great for them, not so much for those of us renting. 10 years ago, rent was $600. It's almost TRIPLED that in the last 10 years, and yet... wages are pretty much still the same.

So yeah, it's rough, and I can see how a kid his age would feel helpless, especially if he just lost his job. MOST people around here are one paycheck away from disaster. If I missed ONE paycheck, it would send us into an absolute spiral.

I'm not familiar with Austin. What's the Cedar Park area like?

Cedar Park is growing faster than they can build houses. It’s part of a school district with at least 5 high schools. It has dense subdivisions and way more affordable housing than Austin.
I taught in Pflugerville 20 years ago and it’s grown a lot too but not near like Cedar Park. It looks like Conditt lived in an older section.

A kid who is home schooled all the way through high school has been living every day in a cloistered environment. They can't help but have some deficiencies in social skills. That environment inherently breeds a feeling of distrust towards others who aren't in your church and small social circle. Having spent some time visiting a home where teen kids were home schooled it seemed a very restrictive environment for healthy young people growing up. They went to church functions but didn't watch or read anything other than religious programming and religion based educational materials. I can't help but think these kids have an exaggerated fear of the outside world and an inability to connect with others. The whole concept of homeschooling for some of these families is the belief that you need to be educated and live your life in this manner because everyone else in the outside world is living their lives and doing things badly. You go out with them on rare public trips and they're hesitant to look at or talk to people.

It just doesn't seem healthy at all for kids to spend years growing up in that environment. Trying to integrate into society and the world of work must be very difficult for many of them. They're moving into a world full of people they've been taught are bad, dangerous, sinful. Most probably make it ok, but some obviously don't.

OT, maybe?

Tbh, it’s probably easier to homeschool a kid with personality and/or learning challenges, which — in some cases — can be a sort of vicious cycle of isolation. It’s gotta be rough for the parents and the kids when they’re like Lanza or Cruz, for example. They try everything and want their children to succeed.

I’m not arguing for or against public or home schooling, just making an observation.

I’m a huge proponent of public schools, in fact. They’re a vital asset to our society. At the same time, it’s also true that some public school systems don’t serve serve challenging students as well as they ought to.

Everyone’s experiences are different. They also share many similarities. Speaking personally only and not criticizing anyone else’s opinion, I don’t feel it’s my place to judge them (especially parents) when they face situations and decisions like these.

It’s human nature to look for blame. Sometimes there’s a cascade of failures. Sometimes. But most often, imo, everyone’s doing everything in their power to do the *right thing* under exceedingly challenging circumstances.

IMO

I am thinking the 2nd street address/blue house is the one where the suspect MAC was living at the time. And since the Mayor video shows they were at the end of 2nd street doing a presser, JMHO that is my thoughts on the blue home FBI were at at present.

KXAN just said his parents' home. I was confused too.

(Parents home is the one with the shed they're searching.)

I would hope they are searching both today.

So happy people in Austin are safe now!

Wondering if media are already calling this 🤬🤬🤬 "Quiet kid" "well behaved" "went to church", etc. as often happens when perpretators are not a person of color. Let's call him a criminal, a terrorist, that's what he is.

Sorry for his family, though

Not out of the water just yet...there could be more bombs, pkgs.

I think so too. It's all blocked off now and that's the address blurred by Google.

The reddit post is gone now (anyone save it ... I didn’t get to read it, and it disappeared from my opened tab)

http://www.kvue.com/mobile/article/...laiming-to-be-the-austin-bomber/269-530397334
KVUE is working to Verify information about the Austin serial bomber to sort fact from fiction on the internet.
A reddit.com user by the name of "Austinbomber," created a post on the site Tuesday claiming responsibility for the explosions and offering to answer questions.
Several users contacted KVUE asking us about the thread.

At the time of this article, police had not confirmed whether there is any connection between the author of the posts and the bombings, and the author did not write or post any evidence that would back up the online claims.

Reddit.com also banned the "austinbomber" username and deleted all comments.
Austin Police Spokesperson Anna Sabana confirmed that the department was aware of the reddit.com thread and had added it to its investigation.
In the "Ask Me Anything" (AMA) thread, the author claimed that his or her motivations were not racially motivated.
"I am doing this simply because I want to watch the world to burn (sic)," user "Austinbomber" wrote.
KVUE can Verify there was a post by an individual claiming to be the bomber on Reddit Tuesday, but we cannot Verify that this individual is connected to the bombings. Until officials can verify whether this user is an imposter or anything more, KVUE will not share the links to the Reddit thread in question or any more information about what was written.

I read the entire thread last night/early this morning. While I believe the bomber was probably on Reddit, as many, many, many disenfranchised, young white males his age are, I’m dubious of the AMA. It wouldn’t surprise me if it’s a 4chan-like troll.

The AMA is a *fascinating* read, though.

I’m eager to see whether LE has anything to say about it.

Sigh. Still waiting for the day when I come to Websleuths and see a "public school" opinion posted when a crime is committed by one in the public education system.

(Rolling eyes and banging my head emojis)

Sent from my Z971 using Tapatalk

I think that would take awhile. The cases I read often involve teens who commit violent acts have attended public schools...not home schooled.

I would guess there are far more teens who have committed violent crimes who attended a public school.

But I do agree, that never seems to be stressed when it almost always is when the suspect was home schooled. I don't understand why that is though since more and more children are being home schooled, and are excelling much more than they are becoming people like this bomber.

The ones I know who have been home schooled are very smart and very social with great verbal communication with many partaking in social/sports events at a nearby high school. They are also able to obtain well paying jobs too.

I really don't think him being home schooled years ago has one thing to do with how he turned out at the age of 23. JMO

I would hope they are searching both today.

They are but when they go back and forth and both houses are blocked off it's easy (at least for me) to get confused.

There was a comment on his sister's FB page that stated police took another man out of the bomber's house in handcuffs and placed him in the back of an armored truck. The man had glasses and was wearing a yellow shirt.

No more details. The sister's Facebook is still up and many people have been commenting. Ugly stuff. Trolls, etc.

Appears his vehicle was rammed from behind or he short stopped.

Ah, I bet that was the multicar wreck mentioned by some media last night, iirc.

Was listening to headline news (CNN) and NPR this morning, and they reported the suspect had two “roommates” who are being questioned by police.

Sorry I’m on the move right now and can’t find the links. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong!!
