Agree. Family gives young son carte blanch to his own finances and doesn't monitor his spending while he still lives in the house.

He was 24 and by tax records co-owner of a house. He was an adult. He didn't live with his parents. Not sure your point here?

What a scary and dangerous job that is. So grateful he wasn’t able to put any more of his arsenal to use. Good riddance to anyone who wants to hurt others, especially innocent, unsuspecting people. Truly a despicable person.

Yes.
It doesn't matter if he attended church, etc. He displayed his true self.

I will never have sympathy for a murderer. Never mind about the '...in a dark place...'.
This is not the time to make excuses for him. Family or not.
There's no excuse for killing innocent people.

Others have suffered from depression and/or abusive childhoods. And they haven't harmed a soul.
My best friend lost her sister and brother-in-law in a home invasion. They were beaten to death so badly that dna tests had to be done to I.D. the victims.
That family has gone on with their lives. But the pain will always be there; some days are worse than others.
Anthony and Draylen families' will never get to see them, speak with them, or hear their voices.

At the very least, MAC's family could meet with the families of the deceased and injured and express remorse . That could go a long way.

Good observation.
MAC's family is probably not going to admit it-- since then the public might want to know why they didn't warn anyone about him.
Families usually know a person better than anyone else.

So sad.... there's the possibility that this tragedy was entirely preventable !
Don't hesitate to turn even family members in if you suspect they're going off the deep end in life.

What would indicate going off the deep end to a family that had their kids at survivalist training and RIOT?

24 is still young and its a good chance that he always spent their money and not his own.

Wait. What? As long as your kids live at home even into adulthood the parent should be monitoring all their spending? So they were supposed to be a super controlling homeschool family that didn't allow him to do anything till he moved out and got married.

I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not. But if not, geez, parents just can not win. The truth is this guy was entirely responsible for the horrible things he did. And life sucks. We just can't predict who the next loser will be who decides to kill.

Personally I don't want to live in a world where we just start preemptively locking up loads of people on the off chance they "might" be a bad guy. Or telling the parents of 24 yo's it's their fault they didn't monitor their adult child's spending and determine the parts must be for bomb making.

His parents are victims. Let's treat them as such. They are not responsible for his actions.

No, it's not. Not now or historically. 24 yo's do not just spend all their parents money and not their own. (Barring some rare wealthy spoiled kid) Nor do they have their parents control and monitor all their spending. That's just....... Historically most 24 yo's are on their own, married or in this day and age already have a undergrad degree. Only the absolute most freakish and controlling parents like a family like the Duggars or Turpins would be controlling and monitoring how a 24 yo spends their money.

Let's stop making up stuff just to try and lay blame on someone else instead of the actual guilty party. Why does this always happen? An adult kills people. And his parents are to blame because they didn't control his life in the most minute detail, foresee the problem and stop it.

Agree. And I may have spoke without knowing his living facts.

So agree. Its not the parents fault.

I just forgot that youngsters do get family money passed down to them to do whatever

And people are pissed about rap music. Damn.

This is what I was alluding to earlier when discussing conservative Christian groups and their type of home schooling. Some of these groups have their own alternative lifestyles and social structures that are sort of tangential to their churches. Many are non-denominational, so they can be very different from the way most of us perceive Christian fundamentalists. I'm trying to be as diplomatic and respectful as I can, but some of this movement has become very different.

I know someone who is an audio engineer who has occasionally worked recording and doing live sound for Christian music festivals. Some of it is different. It's not Anita Bryant or the King Family anymore.

But this stuff of mixing weapons training and role playing war games with Bible study is disturbing. Not surprising to me, but disturbing. It's probably become mainstream in that subculture in places like Texas. It's a large, unique home schooling group down there. Saw it.

ETA: And they have a very large network. Many of the families in these networks are upper middle class, fairly wealthy, some executives and upper management in the tech industry down there. Quite common in the upper ranks of some of those corporations.

No harm no foul. Sorry.

It will take several hours to process.

Every resident in perimeter was asked to leave their home.

Patience. Everybody wants to go home, eat dinner, but we need to make sure you sleep safely tonight.

Go to library, or rec center until 9pm tonight. If you dont have another place to go to. Still several hours of work to do and homes will not be opened to come back.]

1) I think part of it is the ability to freely commisserate, it tends to reinforce and focus the frustration angst etc. There is so much anger and hate ready at our fingertips and it can be hard to find the beauty in the world when you get sucked into the negativity and rage.

2) This is a tough world to grow up in these days and you better have 2 or 3 jobs or 2 or 3 roommates if you want to get on your own 2 feet in Austin unless you land that dream job right out of college. I am very thankful I grew up when I did.

3) There can be a huge disconnect between the world we build our kids up for and the world they find they have to survive in. I think that is part of the equation also.

MOO

This is so true. This hit the nail on the head. It's a different world. :goodpost:

Same individual, there are components in each bomb that made them similar. There are homemade explosives. We don't want anyone else to get hurt. Our whole goal is to make sure no one else is hurt. FBI, ATF, no one is leaving town until this is done.

Public needs to be vigilant. There could be other packages.

Thank PPD. We are working very hard on this scene. Still working other scenes. Thanks to media. Thanks to FBI and ATF.

I'm not following where you're going with the money thing. Has it been reported that his parents gave him money?

He was 24, and had a job until recently, had a car and a place to live. He's an adult.

I had been living on my own 7 years by the time I was 24, and had a child of my own to support,

There are no completed devices in the house. Just components.

  • #780
Not a bomb making factory, but a lot of components.

Motive? No information about that at this time.
