I just spoke to my daughter-in-law and the subject of the Texas serial rapist came up. She knows how it's driving me nuts. She asked if I knew about the serial rapist in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. I didn't. She told me that in 2003, she went to visit her Grandma in Coeur d' Alene and her normally very bold grandmother was a mess. She was terrified. A rapist was on the prowl and had struck time and again. Several victims were elderly. I did some research and turned up these articles:

I know the victims have a greater age span (although, do we really know that this guy isn't raping younger women too), but there are several frightening similarities. I'm especially drawn to the descriptions of stalking and hunting. See what you think.

Reading the almost-vic's interview was like reading a scary short story....I could hardly breathe while reading it!!

I can't help but think of all the sleepless nights the little grannies around here must be going thru....I would be a nervous wreck if I was living by myself.

I think I'm gonna pour myself a shot of tequila....this is really rattling me-- just thinking about the monster & what he might be planning at this very minute.

And we know very well he is planning...and waiting-just like a snake-in fact-imagine this-he has already targeted someone and is waiting to pounce. It is a matter of time til he hits again. Keep up the good sleuthing....we are going to nail this creep.
I have a problem with him hitting the rural communites-in that-the word is NOT OUT ENOUGH about him. That disturbs me so much. This sob knows exactly what he is doing.

So what we have here is an aberration to society and does not fit the mold of a rapist-we have a quite-defined subset of persons he is targeting-we have a psycho. Very dangerous. Very aberrant. Off the chart. It prolly started when he was much younger?? This thing needs to be put out of his and our misery......

Seriously tho, I have a few thoughts. First, there needs to be some self defense education for the elderly everywhere but especially in the communities where the 'shape shifter' has struck. This could be done in conjunction with the local senior centers, malls and LEAs. Someone local with a bit of influence should step up and champion the cause. I think of this because I have an autoimmune disease which requires me to use a cane for mobility during flares. When I'm out walking the dog at night I think of ways I'd use my cane against an attacker. I carry pepper spray when the cane is not in use. I live in a resort area which attracts alot of vacationers and transients who come in during the season for service jobs and I feel vulnerable. I can't imagine how these elderly ladies feel. The only word I can think of is terrorized. And this 'dog' who commits these rapes is the terrorist!

Secondly, for starrynight, I think this person is someone who blends in with the community in some way. He probably walks among them each day in his official capacity. What What What is the commonality of these ladies in regards to their everday lives that would put them in contact with or in a place where this would be.
You all are doing good work here. I read regularly but don't post that much.

Hopefully they'll find this perp soon and through his butt in jail where he'll get his 'just due'.

Just a thought here. My sister is a traveling optician. She services a region and visits nursing homes, senior centers, etc. She keeps a record of her patients, including personal information, ie address, phone, ss#, health info. She is provided a rental car and overnight stay for these visits on her route. Just something to think about.....

If this perp is striking early, then he may be in a profession that requires early arrival. shift work 7-3 comes to mind. All Moo

I was looking at the calendar of dates of the attacks.In a way, I could see a possible pattern , I too think this is a working person, IMO. Wow, those Idaho attacks make one think ! Perps do move around, wish we had a better system for coast-to-coast uniform response, maybe a FEMA for crime ! (But better!)

The first thing I checked was whether the Idaho Rapist is locked up. He is.

I knew those stories would freak everybody out. My DIL says that you really had to be in that community to appreciate the level of terror. She said that her normally very practical and level headed grandmother became obsessed with safety. Can we blame her?

The dogs trying to "tell" their owner that someone had been in the house and the other three normally well-mannered dogs literally chewing through the wall? Yikes. It does sound like a horror movie and to these women, it is.

I looked at the Rape Clock stuff but that didn't seem right. And IWannaKnow, I knew you'd be shocked by the security catalog. I don't think everybody knows about this stuff. Guys used to have to work so much harder to get a "peep". Now, all it takes is a dot on a lightbulb in the bathroom. Really creepy.

I read the article about elder rapes linked above. I thought it had some very good info in it but once again, there's so many statements like, "We just don't understand it." That article was written in 1994 and I posted one a few pages back that was from 2006, I believe, and there wasn't much development at all. That's not true of other crime studies over a period of 15 years.

The description by Ms. Harvey, a victim of rape, was compelling. We don't often get to hear the unvarnished facts about what one feels and thinks of during a rape. I applaud her for stepping out of the shadows--and 15 years ago, at that.

The articles just show how awesome and valueable dogs are to their owners. Last fall and summer I was convinced that someone was in my backyard up by the windows after a german shepard across the alley would start going nuts barking only when I would turn on the bathroom light late at night, then I would hear noises. I got outside and tested him by watching cats walking around and by myself standing around beside my chain link fence looking over where he could see or my standing up by the windows. He only barked at me up by my house or fence. We got a half pit bull not long after that and feel much safer. All the ladies alone should have a dog even if they are lots of trouble to take care of. They are definitely worth it.

Because I moved to a small community, I've been trying to think of what would be around that I wouldn't think was out of the ordinary, but would also travel quite a distance and what stuck out to me was something like DirecTv or some satellite TV or cable company. A lot of the smaller towns don't have regular cable, so you have to get satellite or go without. Those guys are subcontracted and can cover huge areas. He wouldn't necessarily have to be working at the victims houses for them to catch his eye, and because they work the same areas a lot, it wouldn't be hard for him to check them out later.

I sincerely hope he is caught soon.

I'll try and call her today to ask Missizzy. I'm thinking that the patients must initially fill out paperwork concerning personal status which would be later transferred to a laptop. I remember her mentioning she filled out some type of reports on her laptop at night at the motel.Those files would be a gold mine like you said and it would also be a good way to learn if these ladies are married, widowed, etc. along with their addresses. All it would take for a perp is to pull up another tab with mapquest with directions to the address. I'll post when I find out for sure.

I also am curious about how the perp smells, like was suggested in an earlier post. I have a keen sense of smell and would be able to identify the scent of the person.

I had a dream which woke me in the middle of the night about this case. The perp was a caucasian man in his 40's with a graying beard/goatee, short graying hair that looked as though it was once blonde. I could not go back to sleep so I logged in and read here til about 4 this morning. chilling....

Your post describes just what I was thinking as I caught up on the thread!

We moved to a semi-rural neighborhood just outside of the city recently, and I was surprized how hard it was to find a sattellite provider other than AT&T, ( I despise AT&T!). Direct TV was our only other choice for this area. We tried it, but the reception was horrible with even the smallest clouds in the way, so we sucked it up and went back to AT&T. This switcheroo necessitated several visits from sub-contractors. I chatted them up and found that it is common for a man to sub-contract to service an area away from his hometown by traveling several days a week. Each visit to install or re-adjust our satellite dishes and tv's lasted 1 to 3hrs. (The man was on the roof, in the attic, in the garage, and in each room that has a tv, plenty of opportunity to scope out out living situation!) This made me feel a bit uncomfortable, during the day, while the rest of the neighbors were at work, so I let my big dog roam around the house with me and spoke to my husband by phone a couple of times within earshot of the service tech. I am also very assertive...not "victim-like". This type of situatiuon would strike me as risky for an older lady who lives alone.

I've been keeping up with this case, and I'd like to think I've read every post, but if my question has already been thrown out there, I apologize.

Is it a fact that all of the victims, so far, have been widows? Is there any way, aside from living alone, that this could be some sort of connection as far as why they were chosen? I can't put my finger on who it might be (you guys are all much better sleuthers than I am), but I have to wonder if all of the women have dealt with this animal at some point as a result. I know the suggestion is kind of out there because this predator has expanded the location of the attacks, but I still wonder.

I really feel for older women living in the area, right now. Heck, just reading about this case has made me feel terrified, and I'm considerably younger than the women this creep has been targeting - and live in Canada. A lot of people I know always say "Oh, nothing bad will ever happen here!" because they live in a small town, and I think this is a good - albeit horrible - example as to why that isn't true. A person SHOULD be safe in their own home but, sadly, that's no longer a given.

The installation/service tech idea would give means and opportunity...motive would have to be personal. I don't think he's actually attracted to these women - instead, I think they are "symbolic" of something that happened in this guy's life. I'm new at this, so I tend to have a very firm grasp on the obvious. :crazy:

I mentioned before, and while I'm certainly not insisting that I'm right (I'm usually not), but I think it bears further looking into. As having worked in the field previously, I came up with something to do with insurance. Either a claim in the past year, maybe they all had something to do with the same insurance company in the past year. Either purchasing a new policy, changing their policy, canceling said policy to place coverage elsewhere...it doesn't even have to be homeowners, it could be auto, life, health...and insurance companies work 24-7. Not all departments, but certainly in the claims...adjuster have a wide radius they cover, and the companies like Progressive, Geico, etc. have call centers 24-7. So, my line of thinking is, IF this person possibly worked for a company where he was a call center employee, he would have access to that person's policy info, as he would need it to verify coverage, address, phone, etc. If his shift ended or began around the times of the rapes, it could happen on his way to or from work. It's not uncommon for people in small towns to live in one and commute to another. Just a thought. The other way I can think of to go with this is did all these women become widows within the past year? If so, what about the life insurance? I'm not really familiar with the process, but don't they have to sit down with someone initially to place the claim? When you're grieving, you don't necessarily notice who you are dealing with.

I know this is grasping at straws, but I couldn't get it out of my head until I put it down for consideration. Now you can give me one of these if I make no sense, lol. :slap:
