GUILTY TX - Bimal Patel, 29, burned alive, Austin, 17 April 2012

  • #381
Perhaps a sentence of having to go back and live in a cage in Bimal's families front yard? (With a gas can and lighter within reach of the bars, for her convienence).
Wonder how long she would last there?

Might be mean on my behalf but hoping for more than a slap on the wrist and deportation.

I don't think that is mean at all. I admit, I'm kind of torn. I do want to see her severely punished. I don't want her to get a slap on the wrist followed by deportation either. I'd settle for 60 years, followed by deportation if she is still alive. Nobody will want her by then.

It would have been so much easier if they found her guilty of murder! :banghead: Since they couldn't even get that right, I am worried that she will get too light of a punishment.

I am contributing the long hrs on Friday now to the crazy juror. So today it really only took 1 hr. Now I don't know what the hang up could be, it just better not be to short of sentence!

I'm not too surprised at a longer delib. for this part, they have a wide variance and 12 people to decide what they think is fair for what she did to him, a few may think 5 years, more might think 25 years or longer. Getting them all to agree to a specific term could take some time, just hope it isn't longer than tonight, they must all want this over with too.

I agree 12 minds don't always think a like.

I am already tired, if they go late I may not make it. Unless I nap now, then it will mess me up more than I already am. :floorlaugh:

Judge David Crain has taken the bench. Shriya Patel walks into the courtroom and takes seat next to her defense lawyers.

Jurors told the judge to give them five minutes. They are going to take another vote before calling it quits for the night.

Bailiff: Jurors took another vote — they say they are not going to come to a decision tonight in the trial of Shriya Patel.

I guess that is it for tonight then!

Sorry about the short rapid post!

It's possible the crazy juror insisted on voting Capital Murder against the 11 jurors that voted for Arson and the crazy juror threw a fit. Maybe the crazy juror wasn't crazy after all. Maybe that juror thinks just like many of us...Capital murder.

Jurors have taken their seats, asked to recess and reconvene tomorrow morning. Judge David Crain says he will grant their request.

Crain: Sometimes jurors get locked into their positions, and it’s better to start fresh. Let’s break for tonight and reconvene 9 am Tuesday.

No she was really found this morning walking the streets with some sort of mental issues this morning. I don't think she was kept though. It is all is today's post somewhere.

Here's what I think. Split the 5 to 99 years down the middle. Give her 47 years, then deport her to India where she can wander the streets disgraced, begging for handouts.

That's what I was wondering earlier, if that juror was the only one seeing it like we all seem to and was far outnumbered by those who thought she didn't intend to kill him by throwing gasoline on him with candles burning nearby.
