3:45 p.m. update: Prosecutors have rested their capital murder case against Shriya Patel, who they say splashed her husband with gasoline and shut him in the bathroom of their North Austin apartment.
Judge David Crain told jurors the defense will begin making its case Friday morning and that closing arguments are likely to take place in the afternoon.
In testimony on Friday afternoon, the state presented evidence from DNA experts who said Shriya Patels fingerprints were found on a 10-gallon white bucket that contained gasoline and plastic bags that witnesses have said were used to cover the sprinklers in the apartment. Testing results on prints found on a red gas can could not be matched to her, witnesses said.
I wonder if this judge will let them begin deliberating tomorrow, or have them wait until Monday? Considering how quickly this has gone so far, also wondering how long they expect mitigation to go if a guilty verdict (which seems awfully likely).
AUSTIN -- A woman accused of setting her husband on fire is on trial for capital murder this week. Police said Shriya Patel offered her husband a massage but instead doused him with gasoline.
Friends said their families arranged the marriage, but Bimal loved his wife. They testified that Shriya wanted to use him to make another man jealous.
Was it supposed to start at 9:00 or 9:30? I just have a black screen.

Did anyone catch why one of the sides wanted 15 minutes?
