Found Alive TX - Brett Detamore, 38, Houston / Bear Creek Park, truck found torched, 21 June 2023

Why would a successful businessman not make a loan with a bank? Was the family aware that he made a short-term loan with this company? Maybe I'm wrong but the company resembles a payday loan company.

The family must have been aware that Brett was struggling and feared self-harm to activate a search so quickly. I worry about his safety.
Search was activated so quickly because of the torched truck

I thought about that, too. I noticed that they don't do credit checks either. Two of the "defendants" listed are Detamore properties (2820 Plumb and 2807 Amherst) that are both $2-3 million dollar homes. One sold and one is pending. The listing agent has four active properties, three of which are Detamore builds. They are all over $1 million. It is odd that he would take out such a loan with a company that doesn't have any information, except for lawsuits.

I’ve actually been to that airport… It’s actually bigger than you think. Lots of people keep their small planes there. That’s an interesting thought.
Yes he was successful for sure. his office was less than 5 minutes from his house in West U. Bear Creek Park makes zero sense except that when someone steals a car...Bear Creek is a known place to leave it or burn it... So, I think he is somewhere near his home around the time 4:30 or 5am in West U...
when does a federal agency get involved in a missing person?

what time can you actually get into the park? Are there gates that are closed at the entrances?

I believe that FBI may enter an investigation if suspected crime/foul play occured on federal land i.e. a park. Not sure if that is the case here, though.

I do believe that for him to take out that loan, on those terms, means that he was under substantial financial stress. The mention of an unnamed federal agency with involvement - I theorize that’s for forensic accounting.

Could be DEA, ATF, or ICE as well. The feds will often help small local agencies in their investigations. It would make sense to call for help if they even suspect this may have been a car-jacking/abduction.

What happens if builder uses properties as collateral on a loan but doesn’t pay the loan back with the proceeds of the sale? Is that even possible with the due diligence done at closing? I presume that they check to make sure the title is clear of liens right? Can’t think of why a property that was closed/sold/funded would be named in lawsuit

Good question! I don't know how that would work.

Sounds like that did happen because the claim states the loan was collateralized with AR but that the AR wasn’t paid to them (perhaps when home was sold) and then the claim states the party continued business operations (which I don’t get, was the business purchased entirely or maybe they used the proceeds to do another biz deal)

The loan we've been discussing was based on his accounts receivables, described in the link below. WCG is looking for any and all assets that could potentially be seized to satisfy the debt. At least that makes sense to me, not sure if it's possible.

I wonder if he recently purchased any life insurance. ??

Imo there’s three things that could’ve happen:

Foul Play: Sadly it would make sense, DNA could’ve been on the truck so the suspects or suspects could’ve burned it. Also the body could be anywhere. It also makes sense if they were asking for footage at Lakewood church. Plus the gab between him leaving the house and the truck going to bear creek, something else has to happen in between.

<modsnip - speculation outside the known facts of the case>

I hope all of these are wrong and he’s found in perfect shape. My thoughts and prayers are with Brett and his family.

I used to live in West U until recently. If someone jacked him from his driveway, the virtual cameras would have picked up their entry into the neighborhood. West University has its own government. It’s a unique neighborhood because it’s in a desirable area of houston but because it’s its own city technically, they have their own mayor and officials, their own police department and their own fire department. The virtual gate cameras were installed as a way to lower crime. Every license plate is scanned when you enter the neighborhood and if a license plate has a police report, it automatically reports it to the west U police and an officer is on it immediately. It’s a small neighborhood with a sizable police force so the police response is incredibly quick (one of the many reasons I loved living there). I have no doubt the police are checking the virtual gate cameras and looking up every vehicle that entered the neighborhood within a time frame and possible people on foot too.

I read somewhere the virtual gate has him leaving at 4:20am. It sounds like he was at Lakewood when something happened

Did he stop at Lakewood or is that where his phone last pinged?

ETA: Never mind found the answer. If someone was a wolf in sheep’s clothing, I can see how meeting at Lakewood church would seem innocent enough.
