I'm of the same mindset as bestill below.

I wondered if she was sleeping with her mother because her mother knew how depressed she was, which gave her mother some sense of hope having her close. Such a sad outcome.

Agreed, and a chance to keep an eye on her or to nurse her tears, nightmares or insomnia.

I hate the euphemisms that are constantly used in these tragic cases. How about deeply disturbed, or depressed, or desperate?

Also, isn't it unusual that a woman will use a gun to commit suicide?
