The data indicate that suicide by firearm is the main method for both men and women in the U.S. now, so no longer less common.
I suspect the breakup with the boyfriend was the trigger. Just a guess because we don't know much about Camila & what happened

This is the reason we do not have firearms in our house, emotions run too high especially for teens. Nothing could make me want to own a gun.
It is why I don't have one. It is just too easy, too fast, too final.

Devastating update. My heart breaks for the family. Their loss is huge. Prayers for all of them and that Camila "Cami' rests in peace.

Or she initiated the breakup knowing she was thinking and/or planning on taking her own life.

According to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, search teams, comprised of FBI agents and the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, discovered the body around 4:45 p.m. near the Burning Bush Landscaping Company at Bent Cyn and FM 1560, a few hundred yards from her home in an area of tall grass. Salazar said they went back to an area that had already been checked.

[..]

Salazar confirmed a firearm was found with the body and said investigators currently do not suspect foul play, citing indicators that suggest possible self-harm.

[..]

Her father described his daughter as a loving person who puts everybody first before herself. He said she was a generous person and loved her dearly, saying she was a daddy's girl.

"I use this as an opportunity to remind everybody, whether you got kids this age or well into adulthood, check on people,"[Sheriff] Salazar said. "And don't take anything for granted...Sometimes, when everything seems to be OK, it might be because they made up their mind and they are coming to peace with the fact that they are going to end their own life...If you're going through a crisis yourself, reach out and get help. If you suspect a friend or family member is going through a tough time mentally, please get them the help that they need."

The body here has NOT been positively identified as missing teen Olmos.

CMO's mother seems to have confirmed Salazar's warning where her daughter went from showing signs of depression to recently becoming more cheerful.

If the body is Olmos, I wonder if she was searching for a firearm hidden inside her vehicle -- perhaps taken unknowingly from a friend or relative's home without permission. JMO

So the firearm must be what she was retrieving from the car. 😞
Ahhh, good point.
That makes sense if she was planning on suicide.
Oh, that sweet-looking young girl. Devastation in so many hearts, I'm sure.

I have participated in outdoor search and recovery efforts, and know how incredibly difficult it is to see remains outdoors. Very difficult. That said, she was found in an area previously searched. That fact alone should alert caution to not rush to judgement on whether it was self harm or foul play. AND, it was only a few hundred feet from her house and the still of the morning. No one heard a gun shot?! Did it have a silencer? That would be out of the ordinary for a civilian. Not adding up for me. Nope.

I hope LE will be very thorough in their assessment.

Amateur opinion and speculation only

I live in a very quiet smaller city (20k people) in Central Wisconsin. I dont honestly know the difference between gun shots, vehicles back firing and fireworks. If I hear one pop or even two pops I tend to dismiss it. We had a homicide here back on Halloween a couple blocks from me. I could hear the pop clear as day but to me I assumed it was a firework and went to bed. Now a couple nights ago we had someone lighting off fireworks. I went outside to figure out what noise I was actually hearing and coukd see them. We had over 50, 911 calls because of it!

I would be curious to know if trailing K9s were brought in. I would also be curious to know when did they learn she fit into the despondent category. That could have played a roll with why they went back and searched an area that had previously been searched. Kudos to them for doing that and not having the mindset we searched it, its good enough. No matter how much experience one has we never can truly say any where 100% clear when we have no idea where the missing person is.

I also have to say coming from personal experience I know the pain of loosing a family member to suicide. While it wasnt my child it was my 15 year old cousin. I read things others were saying that I never should have read. I could tell you if we could go back and do it all over again it we would. Some people try everything in their power to help their loved ones. No matter what you try sometime it's never enough. Please for anyone who feels more should have been done to prevent this only comment that on places line WS. Family and Friends read social media. No greater blame will they feel than what they already do but reading it came somehow take the guilt to an almost unbreakable level... speaking from experience. If anyone has any questions I would be more than willing to talk about that further. Please know Im not a heartless person but I had to find a way to desensitize myself and find some sort of peace. But if talking about it can help anyone please know Im an open book for questions.

I didn't expect this . I hope a very full investigation is done. So young .
It was just too close to home. Gone over 1 week and wasn't found until today .
Rest in Peace Cami 🩷

My heart has imploded...NEVER had I thought of this as final...
Not that this is a contest of who is right and who is wrong, but this is what I saw from the start. Her movements seem very meticulous, and her mom clued us in on some things without throwing her daughter under the bus. Everything about this screamed she left the area on her own power with intent to do what she ultimately carried out.

Too bad we can't get through to these kids and make them see if you can just make it through today, tomorrow is so much brighter.

there are family members who can, but pretty sure the Sheriff's want to be sure with DNA. Gun found near the body, so that may make visual ID more difficult

I don’t have a precise idea whether Camila had drivers’ license with her, or not, as the information was confusing, but if she did take it, it could help.

When we raised kids, we did not keep any guns nor did we rely on safes. A gun is a very fast, “fool-proof” way.

She was so beautiful

Sincere condolences to her family and friends.

I hope people will be nothing but kind to her entire family and extra thoughtful with their words.

Why would anyone even ask people to let their home be searched?!

Think how desperate her family must have felt to find her. If someone's house was searched by LE, you can rule out her being there.

That fact alone should alert caution to not rush to judgement on whether it was self harm or foul play.

I really don't think authorities are rushing to judgment. If she was on camera leaving and walking alone, if she left a note (we don't know if she did but maybe), etc.

I actually wonder if the camera that caught her at her car showed what she retrieved but LE didn't want to release that information. Then again, the images weren't very clear. JMO.

Too bad we can't get through to these kids and make them see if you can just make it through today, tomorrow is so much brighter.

I know what you're trying to say and promise this isn't an argument; it's just my thoughts.
She was 19. It's possible she had been having certain feelings on-and-off for years and years already. We see preteens harming themselves sometimes. Not everyone feels a bright future. I think the solution to suicides is going to be very complex. The "It gets better" campaigns are just the first step. One problem right now is the incredible difficulty in accessing, and affording, a good therapist.

It adds up for me, but perhaps my maths might be different to the next person.

- She had reported recent mental health struggles.
- There was a firearm missing from her house and a firearm was found next to her body.
- There is no confirmed video of her travelling in her neighbourhood (ie she went directly from her car/house to the strip of vacant land to the rear of the property where she was found).
- Local law enforcement state that they don't believe there is any evidence of foul play.

It's very sad to consider that this young woman felt that the only way forward was to end her life. I really feel for her family trying to come to terms with what happened 😢
