The Daily Mail often sensationalizes their stories. It's really not in the opposite direction, it's a pretty direct route along main roads from her house, and the mall has an entrance that is right at the end of the same street where her employer is located. There were dozens of likely routes she could have chosen, some going through more residential areas with frequent start/stops and some of those are more "perfect" than others. She was new to this job and likely taking direct routes she felt comfortable with while she discovered the quickest way to get to her job.
The mall is in no way on a direct path from home to the office. She clearly drove around for a while then ended up in the mall parking lot, far from her office. She never intended to go to the office that day. She was already late, left her phone at home. Something was already amiss before she ever left the house. This has nothing to do with her not feeling well and pulling over or stopping to look for something in the glove box or other seat.

I wonder if she could have even choked to death, maybe trying to eat something in a rush.
Wouldn't they have identified that as COD pretty easily/early if it were that? Not sure what happens to an obstructed airway postmortem and if it continues to sit in the airway--especially after 3 weeks, yikes--but it seems like there'd be telltale evidence.

I keep thinking it's a mix of mental health and physical health. Like maybe she didn't commit suicide but was clearly having some sort of mental health episode triggered by familial issues with ex/child and it led to some sort of reckless behavior that unintentionally killed her--could be something as simple as her having a panic attack, driving around to get over it, but maybe passing out and dying in the heat, who can say.

Some articles did say they seem to have proof she arrived there 30 min after leaving her home, so that part is odd to me and definitely might indicate she drove around first. Possibly felt awful that she was already screwing up a new job, awful after the weekend anniversary and another fight with the father of the youngest. This is why I vascillate so much on what happened.

I do think, though, as others have said here, that the mall was somewhat on the direct path. East on Huebner, south on 10, and the complex of plazas is right there at that complex intersection.

I would hope so, but maybe the decomp by that time was too bad to detect a bit of food. However, if you died that way it'd be similar to asphyxiation, right? So there might be something in the blood or bones to detect lack of air as COD.

Since she wasn't parked right next to that drive-through coffee truck, it is very odd to me that she was parked really close to the steakhouse's rear area. If she wanted a coffee or snack, I would think she'd be parked right next to a place that served them at that hour. I agree that maybe she had a breakdown and was trying to figure out what to do, didn't want to head right to work - embarrassed, most likely - but could she also possibly have stopped in that parking area to purchase drugs from someone she knows who may work there? Or was her medical condition an asthma inhaler, and did she just work herself into a panic attack, didn't have the inhaler, and, well, we know the rest...

The shopping center was not in the direction of the of her work.
The only way she could have ended up there is if she failed to get in the right lane on Huebner and missed I-10 East.

Huebner Rd - Google Maps.png

And the only way she could have ended up being on camera at James Avery is if she had made a left turn unto the I-10 West Access Rd.

This sometimes happens when people are distracted. She needed to be in the R lane on Huebner in order to get on the I-10 Eastbound ramp.

Once you realized you have gone the wrong direction, you have two options:

1. Go to the turnaround (in this case it is DeZavala) OR
2. Go straight on Huebner Rd. Make a U turn safely by turning into a parking lot. Go back under 1-10 and take a left onto 1-10 East on-ramp. (However, going straight on Huebner won't go to James Avery)

I often get distracted when I'm in a hurry and tend to drive on "auto-pilot" then I realize I'm heading in the wrong direction. (If her default mode was to drive toward UTSA where she graduated from or Huebner Oaks where she probably liked to shop this happens) However, I correct myself.

Going in the wrong direction is very common around here. You learn to handle it.

Huebner Oaks is on the in I-10 W access road.
Her work and the shopping center are not at ends of the same street. The "street" ends in Jacksonville Florida and Santa Monica, CA.

She was already late for work. I doubt she would drive out of her way to pick up lunch on the way.
And I don't buy the heat angle either. She and everyone else drives to work every day in that heat with no problems.
Hi me again.
But if I'm already late... I'm still stopping at Starbucks and I'll roll in with the cup in my hand while waving at people 20 mins late lol. You're already late... sometimes I ask if anyone wants anything if I'm feeling guilty or nice, lol.

Generally, panic attacks come on suddenly, as opposed to something that one works themselves into...ime. Is there any proof of drug use or previous reckless behavior? TIA

IM[P]E, individuals with a panic disorder can work themselves into a panic attack over time - some CBT tools can help you to delay or lessen them so you can get to a safe location to ride them out (again, IME). We obviously don't know if she suffered from the said disorder, but a prolonged onset wouldn't completely rule out a panic attack. Would that then result in her passing out without some other input? I've never passed out, so I am unsure. Again, all MOO and personal experience.

In articles it was stated her mother said she disappeared once before for 4 days but it turned out she was with a boyfriend, and the father of her 2 yr old son has custody (not sure if it's legal or self-imposed), so something must have happened for him to take over his care to this day. I don't think we've read of any drug use. My comment was speculation only.

I also agree with @nimaathep above as I have anxiety and occasional panic attacks when life gets intense. A panic attack for me is a culmination of severe anxiety. I've never had one appear out of the blue, but that's just me. I have had to leave grocery stores after feeling I could manage my anxiety and continue to shop, but discovered the physical symptoms just got worse and worse despite my attempts to control the anxiety.

I've never passed out either or known anyone who did, not from a panic attack. I've seen someone appear to be having a heart attack. And while he struggled to catch his breath, he never passed out. For those who are familiar with passing out during a panic attack, can you inform us, please? TIA

I've had both panic and anxiety attacks that led to me fainting--usually because my blood pressure drops thanks to hyperventilating. Hasn't happened to me in a few years thankfully (anxiety meds have made a world of a difference). I don't know if it's a common thing though--not suggesting this is definitely what happened to her but just that there is some possibility that whatever mental health things she was going through could have resulted in her putting herself in dangerous circumstances like overheating in a hot car without actual intent to kill herself.

So I went out there today

There was hazard tape on a few utility poles, but poles in between didn't have them. Two of the poles were several hundred yards apart.

One pole with hazard tape was directly behind Saltgrass
Another pole was across from California Kitchen/Chipolte
Another was pole was close to Bath and Body Works

The Daily Mail's arrow points to the exact spot as the Saltgrass utility pole, so I take that with a grain of salt.

The coffee truck is surrounded by tables and and a cell charging station. There were people sitting on the tables

I think James Avery has cameras in the back.

I have panic attacks and have not fainted with one. However I do think some folks will hyperventilate during attacks which will cause fainting.
Another thing is vasovagal-syncope. This can cause fainting. People who have it have different triggers, sight of blood, too much exercise, stress. It causes your blood pressure and heart beat to drop. My best friend’s daughter has this. When you start to feel faint you are suppose to lay down and raise your legs.
Not saying this is what happened but could be why she was in the passenger seat, to lower the seat and raise her knees up which would be harder in the drivers seat. But you do not need any medication for this condition. MOO
Edit but me. Clarity

WOW! Thank you so much for investigating! What are your thoughts on the tape in areas not where her car was located, like near Bath and Body Works??? I saw the camera on James Avery Artisan Jewelry which makes sense, for sure. I wonder why they taped off near BBW which now introduces a new variable as it seems to be on the east side of that shopping area toward that whole north end of shops?

Well, that behaviour depends upon everyone's own manager at work.

If I was late in my job, I could never get away with that, and nor would I dare even try it!

I would head straight to work, keep my head down, be humble and apologize..... then spend the rest of the day working my a$$ off and staying out of everyone's way.

Do you think after seeing the locations of tape and such, that she would have driven there to get a coffee or lunch to take to work and just had some issue in her parking spot? It seems to me her car was found close to the steak house, not near the coffee truck at all where one would expect her to park to get coffee if she went to the coffee truck. If she went into a business to get coffee, her car would have been parked in front of it. It's odd she was parked near a steakhouse rear area unless she bought food / drink elsewhere and then had an issue and had to pull over but family said her credit cards weren't used unless, I guess, she paid cash, or never purchased anything anywhere there.
